Dear Mayor Hammoud and Sean Fletcher,
I am sending this note in support of considering a disc golf course in the city of Dearborn. I know over last summer Dearborn Hills was closed for golf and that it’s situated in a flood plane on the west side of Telegraph so it can be hard to keep playable for ball golf, I believe that property could be a great location for disc golf in Dearborn, because disc golf doesn’t require the level of maintenance of golf.
A few benefits disc golf would have for the property and the residents include:
We are using discs instead of balls (less likely to injure any kids or pets in their backyards)
The course design prevents any discs from ending near any property lines
Much less grounds keeping required (less mowing, leaf blowing and tractor noise for residents adjacent to the park)
Trash cans on the course on pretty much every tee pad should prevent any risk of trash or anything else building up
A paying crowd will bring in people who respect the property and the sport
Having something using the property (since there is no ball golf) should help prevent vandalism and other riff raff hanging out on the property just due to the traffic
Opportunity for the City of Dearborn to diversify it’s revenue from that property with lower maintenance than a golf course (Hosting Tournaments, Pro Shop, Renting Golf Carts, Concessions, On site Bar and place to hang out)
I know personally if you did choose to use the golf course I’d be willing to pay to play a nicely maintained course and would buy a drink from the clubhouse and spend time there with my friends if this became a reality.
Even if you choose not to use Dearborn Hills Golf Course I’d like you to consider bringing disc golf to the city of Dearborn on another property. It’s a low impact sport people of all ages, shapes and sizes can enjoy. It’s also a good sport for muslim women who may wear hijab that can make playing more intense sports uncomfortable.
