Since there are only a set number of spots per division, why are people that are eligible to register in lower divisions (Am2-4) allowed to register in AM1. I understand that in most tournaments people can sign up wherever they’d like but just not below their rating, but isn’t it a little unfair that people in lower divisions can take spots in their division or other higher divisions but AM1 players only have their division to try and sign up for to get in? People that are only eligible to sign up for AM1 won’t get in because of people that are eligible in other divisions are taking some of the AM1 spots. Not trying to throw any disrespect any anybody’s skill level or division, just seems like an unfair system.
60% of the currently registered AM1 field is eligible for AM2 or lower.
A largely agree with this especially when it comes to field size cap. I am currently 930 rated but have fluctuated well above and a bit below that. I find it likely (hopefully) that I will sit above the 935 cutoff by the time of the event so I’m registering such that I don’t get eliminated from the lower division. I suspect a lot of players within 20-25 rating points are in a similar boat.
I’m on the waitlist though lol so my comments validity is pending
I think it's a legitimate issue for high demand tourneys like this one; it'll be interesting to see how various TDs and/or the PDGA decide to address it. I know DDO did tiered registration for AMs this year; I think we are likely to see this happening more frequently for bigger, high demand tourneys.
Last year I went with a group of 8 and half the group could have played in a lower division. It makes carpooling easier because fewer cars are needed. Also, although some could’ve played in a lower division, it doesn’t accurately reflect players who greatly improved in the later half of the year. Everyone in my group shot in the top half of am1 even though some were rated between 900-910
I’d assume some people plan on getting a rating bump too. If they sign up for am2 and then their rating bumps them into am1, they’d be put on the waitlist. So they’re better off signing up for am1 from the start
Part f it could be playing up a division incase their rating goes up
I would also suspect that some want the chance to play a specific course. Not saying that is a valid reason but if its allowed, they aren't doing anything wrong.
This is a problem in many tournaments, and it isn't ledgestones fault in any way, it just needs to change. Tiered registration like was mentioned before is the only really fair way to do it, but no matter how you do it, someone is getting the short end. I do, however, agree that the higher rate ... more

Tiered registration like was mentioned before is the only really fair way to do it, but no matter how you do it, someone is getting the short end. I do, however, agree that the higher rated players in MA1 should be given priority sign up, because we are unable to go down a division. If someone is within 20-25 points of moving up, I get it, you don't want to get booted to the waitlist, but if you're 766-900 rated, play MA3 or MA2. Be realistic about the rating bump you could receive. Will someone who is 800 rated bump to 936 by the event? Very unlikely.
