I considered adding a MA50 division. But interest in the MA40 is almost nonexistent historically in Montana so I am of the belief that there will not generate the minimum of 4 players needed to form a division. In years past, the MA50 players have just registered for MA 40 and we still only get 1-3 players.

As we all continue to age that is changing. To be clear, there isn’t a “minimum” division size requirement for PDGA events. “PDGA guidelines stipulate that events offering registration for a specific division must hold that division if there are four or more registered competitors.” So no minimum but if you offer and 4 or more register you must have the division.

Michael, I am aware of the PDGA guidelines. I am also aware of the finances associated with division sizes for events. Something to consider, I have on many occasions offered divisions with dubious numbers of players. When I offer AM divisions, I get trophies for the podium. Meaning 1,2,3. Multiple times, the withdrawals have left 1 or 2 players in the division. The money that was spent on those trophies was wasted. After this occurs enough times, TD's learn that the wasted money/resources could be better used in other places. I have, many times offered women to have smaller divisions of 2 competitors. The primary reason for this is the need to increase participation; that is to say, have women continue to sign up. MA40 and MA50 have players that can play in multiple divisions. The number of women players in Montana are usually so low that it is mandatory to allow these small divisions.

John, it should also be noted that the player you speak of is also eligible for Pro Masters - MP40 and has a rating that is only 9 points short of MPO. Based on his rating, he would dominate the MA40 division and likely destroy the MA50 division.

Ron you are right, he has more event wins than Wierda and I have events played combined I believe. My only point was that would be four. I totally understand the wasted money on trophies sorry as well.
