I'd like to congratulate all the one hundred and one players who played in the Oregon Cooperative Point Series this winter. You were a part of Oregon Disc Golf history as DGLA helped to bring the leagues, clubs and players throughout the state closer together. You also survived one of the craziest winter season in many many years.
I personally have been very excited to see how the Oregon players have taken to the state wide point series. DGLA looks forward to working with you to continue to grow and improve Disc Golf Leagues in Oregon in the years to come. In the very first season players have stepped up to try new things - Disc exchange and a Season Finale, along with several other ideas and good questions. When you walk the course and dream of where this sport could go or how leagues could be better, what does that look like? - share your ideas and cooperatively we can make it a reality.
What's Next?

14 week Oregon State Wide Disc Golf League Point Series
Sunday Nov 24th 2013 - Saturday Mar 1st 2014
Overall Summary:
# of Players 101
# of participating Leagues 8
So a quick look at the overall final standings and then some stats and trends from February.
In the top ten the first thing that jumped out at me was that the order was for the most part in line with the number of rounds played with a few exceptions. Jonathan Long with 12 rounds and 212 points took the last spot in the elite top ten overall - an amazing point total for just 12 rounds - Nicely done Jonathan. Tiger Discs with 16 rounds and 222 points tied Ira B with the same number of rounds and points to share 8th place. Now ARGO JACKSON and RYAN ROWLEY edged them out and were only separated by one point, and did it all in less rounds - only 14 rounds - for 6th and 7th places respectively. With a jump in the number of rounds to almost double - 28 rounds and almost a hundred points, begins the top 5 players starting at 5th place with Erik Gyllenskog amassing 333 pts in 28 rounds. Jesse Walker takes 4th place with 350 pts in only 24 rounds. At 3rd place there was another jump in the stats, - scottishrob -, earned 350pts in 25 rounds for a average of 17.5 points per round which was almost the highest in the top 10. Interesting the second highest points per round average was Jonathan Long in 10th place with 17.66667 pts / round but only 12 rounds - keep it going Jonathan and get some more rounds this summer. The Average Pts/round for the top 10 was 15.52 pts/round. Now the early leader for several weeks was THE "BEAST" OF THE WOODS and after 25 rounds in an amazing season, where he claimed 385 pts solidly secured 2nd place. You are a "BEAST" - Nicely done. As the winter dragged on one player continued to top the weekly and monthly leaderboards and stayed strong and won 14 of his 27 rounds throughout the season. Twice achieving three league wins in a row at Friday Frolfers - Camp to Camp. The only thing missing was a winter ACE but when you are over 100 points ahead of everyone else, who needs an ACE ;-)

Congratulation to the first ever - DGLA Oregon Disc Golf League Winter Champion for 2013/2014 - Rick Saffeels. What a great achievement - great play this Winter Rick. Rick I hope your warmed up because Summer Point Series really turns up the heat. New players, more players, playing more rounds and traveling to more leagues - Man this is going to be fun...
Again congrats to all the players, and especial those who overcame the special Winter elements to achieve, to share in the joy of this sport and enjoy the amazing courses we have in all their winter glory. Grab a friend and take them out to leagues - the fun grows for everyone.
So in February we had 8 players manage to get to three different leagues and not so surprising that all 8 are in the top 17 of the overall leaderboard - seems like there is a message in those stats.

Erik Gyllenskog - took the top spot with 9 rounds in the month - way to get out and play Erik. Jesse Walker is also at the top of the list with 8 rounds, followed by Rick Saffeels and the "BEAST" OF THE WOODS with 7 rounds each.

Playing more should help continue your growth and add to your experience which allows you to perform in more situations at a higher level. The ultimately formula for success in the point series is consistently playing often at a high level - one measure of that is the number of wins. The highest number of league wins in February was none other than Rick Saffeels with 5 wins. Congrats to Steven Egler & Barry "B" Bolliger who both managed to secure 3 Wins in the month as well.

During the same period Jesse Walker was able to come close to that point total, 141 points in 8 rounds and an ACE at CCDG Sunday Random Doubles - Hole 17 Nice shot Jesse.

Nice Ace!!! Jesse
So yes we are in our final week of the OrCPS-W - what are the key things to know?
Reminder - Saturday March 1st is the last day for rounds to count in the OrCPS-Winter. After that Leagues have one week to post scores or fix anything before the overall leaderboard locks and our Oregon Disc Golf League Champion is crowned.
Can anyone catch Rick Saffeels before the end. THE "BEAST" OF THE WOODS, - scottishrob - Jesse Walker are not to far out - a win or two and a few more Aces - come on guys I'm puling for yeah ;-) Ok I'm pulling for everyone - especially to maximize your fun.
I'll break down the winning strategies and point out some interesting factoids while drinking some good beer in Germany next week and then back to get ready for the Summer season.

**** OrCPS - Finale?
All of us here at DGLA are excited to see how the Oregon players have taken to the Oregon Cooperative Point Series and provided feedback and suggestions. This interaction is a great starting place for the Cooperative aspect and shows that the future of the OrCPS is great if history is an indicator the Oregon disc golf leagues are posed for some significant growth. Very exciting.
A few of the comments/suggestions were related to how to enhance the wrap-up of the season, a Finale to all the weeks of fun and competition. Rick Saffeels was one who not only provided feedback but was willing to lend a hand and explore what has been done in the past and what options there are to figure out how to make this a reality in Oregon.
This event is after the completion of the OrCPS so the OrCPS-Winter 2014 Champion will already be determined based on the rules posted at the begging but this is a way to get together and celebrate the Winter season completion and compete with players from all over the state. We will be able to evaluate if this can be incorporated into the OrCPS in the future.

"2 rounds on one Middle-Ground: North Eco Park
Divisions will Apply to both Rounds.
First round holes will be for anyone to play. First round will have Round Winners and Trophies for the 18 Holes (some temp holes) $15 will get you a Stamped Innova disc and $5 will go towards payouts (great deal).
Second round will be exclusive to the Top 10 Points Holders from the season and the top 3 finishers in the first round in each divisions. Only the Top 2 Players in each division will get paid out in the second round. This way, everyone plays for the cash payout, but only 25 will compete for the money in the second round. Everyone will leave with a sweet disc, and possibly a CTP, Trophy, or some cash."
There is nothing better than the excitement and energy that events like this create when players from different clubs and leagues from all over the state come together for both fun and competition. Even if you don't make it into the2nd round, watching those top players who have earned their spot to compete is amazing disc golf situation. Not very often is there a gallery of spectator walking around with the players. The energy, shared moans on the slight misses and echoing cheers showing everyone's appreciation for some amazing shots is priceless and really brings this sport to new heights.
Another opportunity to consider to help wrap up the OrCPS-W with a Bang in your local area - The Raid. With a little collaboration and cooperation you can get a few local leagues to converge ("Raid") at one league round and have super league round. Now only one league post the round so this could affect individual leagues as they have one less round for the season but the net gain is worth it and the impact is minimized if the plan is posted and discussed with the league members early. If you pick a morning league and afternoon league you can really maximize the fun with many more players, grab a bar-B for a fun lunch before the 2nd round. At the end of the winter season the few fair weather players begin to come out of hibernation and are trying to get back in the swing of the game - these types of events are a great way to get more players out and the current players smiling - The more players the more points but even more important, the MORE FUN.
*** OrCPS - The Future is in your hands...
So you see that players make a difference; with suggestions, and even questions to help us identify what is not clear to everyone and of course the volunteers. There are many ways to get involved and help Disc Golf leagues and the sport grow and improve.
Everyone has an impact, either negatively or positively. It can be as simple as helping a league Admin during registration. These guys help ensure we have a consistent event to increase our fun. How often do we thank them for their efforts - THANKS for all you do League Admin.
Creating a fair, safe and encouraging environment to play our sport with other players that we can share, grow and compete with week after week is a major factor in the growth of this sport.
Tournaments are the ultimate test of players skill at that moment, under those conditions with a strong focus on competition. Leagues bring players together week after week with more emphasise on fun while still competing, learning, sharing. Look at any sport and you will find many time more players involved in leagues and the more players in leagues means an increase in players attending tournaments.
The future of Oregon Disc Golf is in the hands of the Oregon players on the courses right now. DGLA is excited to help you define and achieve your goals.
*** 2014 Winter DGLA: Oregon <– O –> Michigan Disc Swap
Well so far there are 11 Oregon disc collected and 15 Michigan discs. There is still time as the dead line is Feb 28th. I am currently holding off collecting more Michigan discs to keep the numbers close but if your interested in adding to your collection, adding some interest to your CTP or award disc selection let me or ROGUE RIDER know.

**** January Weekly and Monthly stats update
First realize their is only three weeks left in the OrCPS-Winter 2014 - Can you tell the seasons are changing and Spring is almost here??? Ok maybe we need to send mother nature a Outlook reminder but Spring weather will arrive, the bugs will start to do their thing, the casual will attack the courses as well and we will continue to play our game.
92 total players have played in the OrCPS-W 2014 so far.
8 participating leagues
In January 63 players played rounds in the OrCPS-W, that is a OrCPS Record for January (OK it's the first January of the OrCPS but all records have to startt some place ;-) AWESOME!
So what was the result of those January winter rounds?....
Most rounds played in a given week during January was 4 by Ira B, who made it onto the weekly Rounds leaderboards 3 of the 4 weeks.
Three players managed 3 rounds in a week at least once and two achieved this in two of the four weeks in January:
THE "BEAST" OF THE WOODS 3 Twice
Rick Saffeels 3 TWICE
Erik Gyllenskog 3
Most points in a given week with how they achieve it????
Rick Saffeels 46 points in week 7
Two 1st place wins; Friday Frolfers - Camp to Camp & Lunar League "Traveling Glow"- Nicely done...
THE "BEAST" OF THE WOODS in week 8 accumulated 45 points
Also Two 1st place wins; D.O.R.C.s (Day Of Rest Crew) & CCDG Sunday Random Doubles Also Nicely done...
So there is a slight (one point) advantage to winning a singles round over a doubles round, at least when the league size is 20 players or less. I suspect this will take on a new dynamic in the summer when league size increase with those fair weather players come out of hibernation.....
Other top point achievers for a week in Jan.
Rick Saffeels 43
AGRO JACKSON 42 Two weeks in a row. CCDG Sunday Random Doubles & CCDG Saturday Singles
"<Blank Man>" 41
How did the January overall stats looks once everything was combined:
20 players made it out to play at least two different leagues during January, 12 players hit 2 and 8 players played hit a few more, with AGRO JACKSON playing at the most leagues in January....

So we see the guys at the top of the points are also the ones who continue to show up on the # of Rounds leaderboard and also continue to perform well. Now not everyone has the opportunity to play multiple times a week and so there are some sleepers out there that if they could, the stats show they would be giving the leaders a run for thier points.
Let's look at Average points per round accumulation:
mike albertson - Although for January he is sitting at 19th for point accumulation in January he has the highest point/round average of 26.5 the advantage of playing in a larger league - ABDG Glow 2013. Keep it up mike.
Right behind mike is jason hardin with a 26.3 pts/round average - also playing ABDG Glow 2013.
Jason "Rage" morton & aaron walker also making the ABDG Glow 2013 rounds work for them as well.
Get'n their winter GLOW ON - Nicely done guys.

So overall to date here is the top twenty:
So with about three weeks left in the quest to be crowned Oregon Disc Golf League Winter Champion, the "Beast" is stacking the "Tiger" to make up a 59 point deficit. GAME ON! Erik Gyllenskog, - scottishrob - and Jesse Walker are not to far behind. Come on Winter Aces.....

OK we are in week 9 of the 14 week Oregon Cooperative Point Series Winter (OrCPS-W) 2014.
So for January what are the trends:
"COLD" - with some "HOT" action at the top of the leaderboard......
So far the most rounds played in a given week is 4 by Ira B - Way to go Ira. Next is 3 rounds by THE "BEAST" OF THE WOODS and Rick Saffeels. THE "BEAST" OF THE WOODS managed it two weeks so far in January it seems to be paying off for him. Nicely done.
Now for points Rick Saffeels took the top weekly point accumulation with 43 &46 points. THE "BEAST" OF THE WOODS also took a week with 45 points and john cooper is currently leading this week with 39.
Rick Saffeels is ahead of THE "BEAST" OF THE WOODS but anything can happen. Several new names on the top of the weekly leaderboards and with 5 weeks left who knows what the final tally will be and who will be crowned the Oregon Winter Disc Golf League Champion.....
So how are the January monthly stats looking:
Most rounds for the month so far:
1 Rick Saffeels 8
1 Ira B 8
3 THE "BEAST" OF THE WOODS 7
4 Jesse Walker 6
4 Erik Gyllenskog 6

So what's been going down throughout Oregon leagues in the last few weeks? Well I'm not in Oregon and I am not out playing your leagues so all I have is these stats to comment on. I'd love to add any insights, crazy happenings and any local color anyone is willing to share. Otherwise I will just scan the stats and see who is doing what. The other thing that would help is a few pictures of leagues, registration, some play, the weather ect. Post the pictures on your profile and in the Album setting link them to your league, then everyone can get a view of disc golf throughout the state or across the country.
Ok for the month of December (1st – 28th) , two days after the 28th, Disc Golf Scene magic happens and the special weekly Leaderboards lock – only those rounds posted to that points are included.
The overall leader board updates when ever a league round is posted or updated.
The results - Players get extra Achievement Bling on their profile pages and the special leaderboards memorialises the achievements; the most Rounds played and most Points accumulated during a week, and Month, as well as most Wins and most Leagues played for the month.
It’s currently week 7 so everyone still has time to climb the leaderboard. Let’s take a look at who is playing and who is achieving.
Greatest points accumulated in a week for the month of December:
Well two players managed to amass 46 points. They each played two rounds during that week and both won both rounds that week.
- scottishrob - - week 4 - played Lunar League "Traveling Glow" & Liquid Sunshine PDGA League
THE "BEAST" OF THE WOODS - Week 3 - played Liquid Sunshine PDGA League & D.O.R.C.s (Day Of Rest Crew)
I loved this comment:
"My first "LIQUID SUNSHINE" round. Thanks Steve W. for hosting this league. DGLA Oregon Cooperative Points Series brought me out to a this league. Winter disc golf is always a joy with these guys."
This is what the OrCPS is supposed to encourage - more players getting out to more leagues and sharing and spreading the fun. THANKS "BEAST"
The next highest weekly point getters during December were:
Rick Saffeels 42
THE "BEAST" OF THE WOODS 41
Rick Saffeels 39
Rick Saffeels 38
Josh Pittsburgh Steelers Parker 38
bryan van fleet 34
" LUCKY " 34
Steven Egler 32
Mike Wilson 31
Note they did not have to win each round but by playing at least two rounds a week they maximized their point total and stay within striking distance.
The OrCPS - uses your two best rounds and drops the others - Play a third round drop your worst round - maximize your points. It's a long winter - anything can happen.
So who Played the most rounds in a given week?
Most rounds played in a given week for December was 3, achieved by two players.
Rick Saffeels 3 week 5
Erik Gyllenskog 3 week 4
The next highest number of rounds in a given week was 2 rounds, Several players made it out for two rounds multiple times in December:
THE "BEAST" OF THE WOODS 2 week 3,4 & 5
Rick Saffeels 2 week 3 & 4
- scottishrob - 2 week 4 & 5
Erik Gyllenskog 2 week 3 & 5
The remaining die-hards, who ensured they got at least their two rounds in for the week:
Steven Egler 2 week 5
bryan van fleet 2 week 5
Josh Pittsburgh Steelers Parker 2 week 5
Shawn Madden 2 week 4
L Bledsoe 2 week 4
" LUCKY " 2 week 4
Mike Wilson 2
Tiger Discs 2
Way to get out and enjoy the rounds even in Winter guys.
Ok now let’s look at the December overall stats:
In a 14 week Point series a good week is great but consistency helps alot. Just getting out each week will keep you near the top and the ultimate is consistently winning but there are a lot of other players out there trying to do the same.

1 Rick Saffeels 8

OK great weekly and monthly achievements by everyone at the top of the leaderboards.
The trends for December are pretty clear. The players who got in their two rounds each week for most of the weeks are near the top. Wins helps - collecting the most points for a given round as seen by
Rick Saffeels & THE "BEAST" OF THE WOODS - both with three Wins for the month and in spots 1 & 2 for overall points for the month. Now Erik Gyllenskog shows us that you don't have to win ever round to collect a bunch of points and stay within striking distance for the long haul. He is Third on the monthly overall points with 8 rounds like Rick Saffeels. Let the games Continue......
Lets where the overall standings are currently:

Ok so some of the secrets are pretty obvious.
The more rounds you play the higher the probability you will learn new skills to improve your game.
The more you improve the better your finish and the points help track that for you.
Getting out even when the weather is challenging. You are used to playing in differing conditions - your ready for any situation.... It's also great to be out on the course in different conditions to experience the full range of beauty that our parks offer us.
The more leagues you visit the more you learn about how different groups run their leagues, side games, new ideas, and these ideas spread. You also meet more players, make new friends and find new players to play with.
Like weather conditions courses change the game as well. The more courses you play the better you are at assessing the course and your find your throw more veriety of shots, versus playing the same holes the same way each round.
Welcome to all the new players. Great to see all the regulars on the leaderboards week after week.
Thanks again to DiscGolfScene for all the auto-magic that makes this possible and the League Coordinators who make leagues happen week after week, in every condition possible, so we can play some more Disc Golf...
Everyone enjoy the Winter league rounds - Stay Warm and Safe.

ROGUE RIDER (Lee) from Oregon sent me an idea to swap a few Michigan Event or Club stamped discs for some Oregon discs to help spice up their CTP and award disc selection. Pretty cool idea. With a little more cooperation, Lee and I have expanded this idea to help all the interested clubs and leagues in our state to create the first Oregon <– O –> Michigan Disc Swap
What we purpose is to collect discs from any club/league in Michigan and in Oregon and then swap the discs and redistribute the discs to the participating club/leagues. If you’re interested please contact Foz or Lee depending on which state your club/league is in. We will explore how to grow and improve the disc swap, such as adding other state into the mix. Keep those ideas flowing. It's amazing what can be accomplished when we work cooperatively.
Details:
Disc must have a Club/League/Event stamp and in New condition.
Deliver your disc and $1.00 per disc (to help with shipping) to your state contact (see below) by Friday February 28th 2014 .
Provide the following information with the disc(s):
Organization Name:
Contact Name:
Disc Golf Scene name (if different):
Contact Phone Number:
Description of disc(s) provided (Max 2 per organization):
Note Michigan Organizations - Two discs max per organization for this first Oregon <– O –> Michigan Disc Swap as we have many more clubs than Oregon currently.
The discs will be randomly assigned and redistributed to the participating organizations before the Summer season kicks off. (early March)
In Michigan we will have a random drawing event at a local Ann Arbor brewery for those who want to attend in person (details to be announced). I will also try and post pictures and details of the discs / groups participating on Facebook so everyone can see what discs are being swapped and are up for grabs at a league near you….
We hope to swap at least 50 discs in this first exchange so check your club inventory, or personal stash and swap for something most likely no one else in your state has in there bag or on their wall.
