** Leagues can always run outside the OhCPS dates but OhCPS points will only accumulate for rounds played between these dates.
The Disc Golf League Association (DGLA) is proud to bring you the Ohio Cooperative Point Series – Summer, (OhCPS-S) 2016 season.
The DGLA OhCPS brings leagues and players closer together for more fun, to help exchange ideas and grow the sport of Disc Golf. Through the use of Disc Golf Scene all the scores, pictures, videos and chat from all leagues and players come together, enabling all the players throughout the state to see what players are doing, what each league is up to and what is new at each of the courses. Growing the sport of Disc Golf together and coming together to crown the Ohio State Disc Golf League Summer Champion.
Earn points for every round you play in a participating leagues throughout Ohio.
Leagues Coordinators, or players can Opt In to the OhCPS
League Admin: Once your league is set-up send us the URL (Link to the About page) of your league on DiscGolfScene.com to join. Any Ohio league that has rounds played in Ohio and during these 16 weeks are eligible for the OhCPS-S 2016. The deadline to add new leagues is May 22nd 2016.
Players: If you play a Ohio Disc Golf league and it is not currently participating (listed on here or indicated under the league Name on the league About Page) just send us the link to the league before the cut-off date to add leagues.
Cost: There is no cost to be in the OhCPS-S 2016 again this year, you have to have a Disc Golf Scene profile and play league rounds in participating leagues and your scores are automatically included. There is also no Cost to Leagues to participate. Yeah when we say Non-Profit we mean non-profit ;-)
Based on player's and league coordinator's ideas and comments and the continued devotion of the DGLA and DGS staff during countless disc golf rounds and hours at the our local brewery/// I mean, hours of board meetings - the rules for the DGLA Ohio State-wide Point Series are available here.
Points calculation:
The Point Series point calculation tries to encourage players to play often yet balance this against many who cannot play more than once or twice a week. We also try to encourage all league to participate by levelling the points accrual – League below 20 players get a boast, league greater than 60 point capped.
During a week (Sunday to Saturday) points are calculated for each participating league round you play. The highest TWO point total from a participating league are added into your total and the others are "dropped". Summer Aces are worth 25 points even if that league round is dropped. League round points are basically calculated by adding 2 points for participation and one point for every player you beat and if there is no tie for first place the winner gets 2 additional points for being the "Out Right Winner". Now that basic calculation are further adjusted to encourage small leagues and balance out larger leagues using three levels; 4-19 players, 20-59, and 60+ players. The points awarded are different for each group. The smaller league rounds will get a guaranteed max point total the same as 20 players, the middle size league round are calculated as described above and the larger league rounds have a cap with max points being set to 60 players.
Scores must be entered the same as leagues determine payouts; If Divisions are used for payouts than scores must be entered by division. If handicaps are used for payouts then the handicap adjusted scores must be entered.
Cali - If there is one Cali in a double league they are counted as two players but if there is more than one Cali than they are only counted as one when calculating point totals. This ensures leagues can have Cali rounds with multiple Cali teams, but the point totals are accurate based on the number of actual players that played the round.
As always leagues can use their own points system or no point when entering league rounds, as the OhCPS points are calculated independently, allowing league more flexibility to continue with their legacy systems or try new ones for their individual leagues.
OhCPS automatically keeps your best TWO rounds per week (Sunday - Saturday) when calculating your OhCPS total points. This is automatically recalculated whenever new scores are posted or scores are updated. Get out and play as much as you can to increase your skill and maximize your points but if you are limited to how often you can play your goal would be to try and get at least two rounds per week.
Summer Aces: Worth 25 points – League Admin – this is automatically calculated so if you want to use a different point system for your individual league Aces you can.
DGLA will also be awarding some MDGO, Discraft Ohio State Championships berths for the OhCPS-Summer season. More ways to secure your berth and compete in another great Ohio statewide disc golf event.

There are more leagues than ever so get out to some new courses or new leagues and see what is going on throughout the state. Don't overlook the smaller leagues - they tend to incorporate new ideas faster, have a really friendly group feel and you get introduce to the new courses with the locals who know them best. I also highly recommend making it out to one of the larger leagues as well to experience the energy of all those players coming together at one time, yet in a slightly more casual environment than a tournament. Bottom line, get out and play often!!!! & Enjoy.
As a player in the OhCPS-S you represent the core Ohio Disc Golf players and you can really help make this sport better. Help pass along the Disc Golf etiquette that makes rounds fun and fair for all. Encourage new players and pass along some tips to help others improve. Bring a friend out and expose them to leagues. If you pack it in, pack it out - or at least make sure it ends up in a trash can. Keeping the courses clean is critical to keeping our courses.

I have been looking at these stats for 8 years now, multiple mathematical and psychological models and I have found the secrete. Now it may be too simple for some of you but it proves out every season..... - "Play Well Often". Ok some of you need more details I know - What does "Well" mean and how Often is Often?
Ok if your in the top 10 of the current 114 players across Ohio I will be airing out your dirty little stats for all to see, so they know how you did it so far and what they need to do to knock you out of the top ten spots on the DGLA OhCPS leaderboard.
What does it take to make it in the top ten league players of the OhCPS 2016? Lets look deeper.....
So at week 7 with Two rounds a week you can have 14 counted rounds adding to your point total at this date and time (OK we are at the beginning of week 8 when I pulled these stats (Wednesday) so currently the max is 15 rounds for the over achievers. Get a job - I mean your living my dream ;-)
If more than 2 rounds are played in a week (Sunday - Saturday) the lower score rounds are "Dropped" helping you Point to Round ratio or average but also giving those who can only play once to twice a week a fighting chance.
To give you an example of how this works. Let's take the Player in the top 10 who has the least number of total rounds played.
Lowest number of counted rounds played in the Top 10 is 9 rounds, Bob Becker with a Points per Counted Round average of over 16.111 points per round. He just doesn't have enough of these high scoring rounds to displace the top 7 currently but he could if he was able to get more rounds in.
Our Highest Pts / Counted Round in the top ten is: 10th place melissa martin with a 19.85714 pts per round average. melissa has played 10 rounds but 3 where dropped leaving her 7 counted rounds Again a few more counted rounds like this and she is knocking a few more down the leaderboard.
The top 5 players have very close Pts per round average (15.9 - 18.7 pts / round). Each has 11 counted rounds except Larry Bright Jr. who has 13 counted rounds. So even thou Larry has a slightly lower Pts per counted round then the other 4 those two extra counted rounds puts him in the 1st place position currently.
so "Play Well" you get more points per round.
"Play Often" you increase your max point potential
"Play Well Often" and you maximize your standing on the leaderboard. - Proven once again. ;-)

Wins - How often did a player get Max points for the league they played.
Aces - Nice Shot! and Extra Points - Cha Ching! 25 points extra for hitting that Hole in One.

Play Well - Average Win per player in the top ten is 1.7 So you don't have to have a bunch of Wins as we have two players without a Win yet in the top ten but it tends to be a good indicator. eric "Shary" boyd has the most with 4 Wins so far and that has him in 2nd place. Well played consistently eric.
Aces - Well Aces are tough and the Average in the Top ten is 0.1 aces, that average is achieved by only one players in the Top Ten. melissa martin has the only Ace in the top ten - Nice Shot melissa.

I also like to look at who is potentially out there that could move up the leaderboard - the potential movers and shakers. So looking at Pt/round with 3 or more rounds, Frank Lyons currently in 45th place with only 3 rounds played has a point per round average of 20 pts per counted round. Man just a few more rounds like that and the top of the leaderboard would be looking different. Not far off here are a few more potential top leaderboard candidate for the future.
