The player with the most HLW rounds at the end of the season will get an extra DGLA Award.
Summer Aces: Worth 25 points
As a player in the OhCPS-S you represent the core Ohio Disc Golf players and you can really help make this sport better. Help pass along the Disc Golf etiquette that makes rounds fun and fair for all. Encourage new players and pass along some tips to help others improve. Bring a friend out and expose them to leagues. If you pack it in, pack it out - or at least make sure it ends up in a trash can. Keeping the courses clean is critical to keeping our courses.
We have naturally beautiful courses let's help keep them that way.
There are more leagues than ever so get out to some new courses or new leagues and see what is going on throughout the state. Don't overlook the smaller leagues - they tend to incorporate new ideas faster, have a really friendly group feel and you get introduce to the new courses with the locals who know them best. I also highly recommend making it out to one of the larger leagues as well to experience the energy of all those players coming together at one time, yet in a slightly more casual environment than a tournament. Bottom line, get out and play often!!!! & Enjoy.
Enjoy the Rounds!

Also a Big Thanks to the Disc Golf scene which really brings us all together and provides a great on-line community for us all to stay in touch, track our rounds, share ideas and comments along with images and videos.
OK the Leaderboards are locked as of a week after the the last round and so the leaderboards are now official and we can crown our season champion and take a look at the top players and what it took to get to the top of the Leaderboard for this season.
Just a quick look back at our Winter Season with 7 leagues and 45 players our top ten were:

Now for the first Summer OhCPS season we have denny velardo at the top and our first Ohio State Disc Golf League Summer Champion - Congratulations denny
Ok let's now take a look at some of the stats for those who managed to distinguish themselves by climb the leaderboard through the 16 week season.
Here are the top Ten players listed in order of some key stats
Top Ten Average stats
400.1 Points
26.2 # of Rounds
23 # of Rounds Counted
16.171 Average Points per Rounds
17.822 Average Points per Counted rounds
4.600 Wins
0.300 Aces
2.400 HLW
So if you played on average 1.5 rounds a week during the 16 weeks, Hit at least 2.4 HLWs and won 4.6 of your 26 rounds, each averaging 16.2 points per round you should end up with around 400 points and in the Top Ten.
If you Points per Round average is not that high then add another HLW, hit a few Aces, get in a few more rounds to replace any lower scores that week and you are headed to the Top of the leaderboard.....
Lets see how our Top ten players faired in these categories.
Total # of rounds played.
No doubt the more rounds you play the great the point accumulation is as well as you learn to play in more conditions, courses, learn from more players and experience more courses hopefully.
Mike Thomas - with 42 rounds - awesome!
Position Player Points Total Rounds
3 Mike Thomas 461 42
5 Mark Festi 392 35
1 denny velardo 486 30
9 Don Thomas 342 26

4 Mike Broda 393 23
10 Larry Bright Jr. 340 22
8 PK Deaner 364 20
7 John Ryan 365 15
Besides helping to spread the word about the many different leagues at different courses you can double up on points. This can really give a nice boost to your point total but most players will get at least one HLW so to really take advantage of the HLW us them as a great reason to travel to other leagues and courses and really maximize you point total.
Way to get out there Mike Thomas with 4 HLW rounds.
By total # of HLW (Double Points)

By Aces
Who doesn't like to hit an Ace, normally collect some extra cash and a great reason to express your excitement so everyone else on the course knows and get 25 extra points. The most Aces was 1 Ace by three players:

By Wins
You are a winner! Yes everyone wants to win and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out if you consistently win you will be at least near the top of the leaderboard. We had several players with several Wins but John Ryan with 11 total wins had the most amoung the top ten.

Points per Round Average - for counted Rounds
Now not everyone can play multiple league rounds each week so another way to compare your play to others is to look at the Average points per round. Now since rounds can be dropped you can look at both only those counted or all rounds so I separate out these two stats. But in this case John Ryan has the highest average in both and if he had managed more than 15 rounds the stats show he probably would have been even higher on the leaderboard but way to make each round count John Ryan.

About this League

Yes your local league(s) will probably continue but the DGLA OhCPS-Summer 2014 will wrap up, last points calculated and the Ohio Disc Golf League Summer State Champion 2014 will be Crowned.
Don't worry - You can spend the Fall fine tuning your game and preparing for the Winter season. OK hard to think about Winter while we are playing July rounds but it will be here whether we like it or not. I'd also like to plant the seed that DGLA is looking for some local players who would like to get more involved in keeping the Winter and Summer point series going. We would like to plan for adding an option to get a player package and awards for different achievements throughout the seasons as well as looking at how to continue to grow and improve the league and overall Disc Golf experience in Ohio.
If your interested in exploring the opportunity shot me a message and we can chat further. The possibilities are endless and together we can do amazing things to further Disc Golf.
Your feedback is always welcomed and appreciated. You never know where the next great idea will come from. We'd also like to hear if players are interested in adding a Player level option. The Point Series will remain free but to be able to provide player packages and awards money has to come from some place. DGLA is a Non-Profit organization. In the Michigan Cooperative Point Series we do a $30.00 Player level option. Player package consists of a Commemorative State Point Series disc and Glow Mini and Players member are eligible for awards based on achievement throughout the season. A small portion goes into a Course Improvement fund that members vote on how this funds are used fro creating or improving disc golf courses within their state. If you are interested in this also send or post a message so we can asses the interest of adding a Player level option. Corporate sponsors are also welcomed so if anyone has a connection we will promote a company who is interested in supporting Disc Golf leagues.

June is coming to a close. The June Leaderboard will end on the 28th and lock on the 30th ( lock means even if new rounds are posted for June after the leaderboard locks they will not update the monthly leaderboards) .
Who are the movers and shakes for June?
Well how is 11 rounds for the month so far. That is 3 more than anyone and Mike Thomas made 4 of the HLWs as part of those 11 rounds so far in June:
Sunday dubs
THursday Big Money League
Euclid Monday Night Scrambles
Hudson Springs DGC Tues Night Scrambles
Don Thomas & denny velardo are the closest both with 8 rounds so far in June.

4 Mark Festi 96 7
4 Larry Bright Jr. 108 7
11 Greg Platt 175 6
Not a big surprise with all those rounds and 4 HLW that Mike Thomas would also be at the top of the Leagues leaderboard and Yes he is #1 with 5 leagues so far.
Larry Bright Jr. is right behind him with 4 leagues so far in June:
Wrecking Crew Wed Handicap league @ the Oz
Euclid Monday Night Scrambles
Saturday Scrambles

So how is the overall leaderboard looking?
between 10th and 1st is a spread of 123 points. Several wins or a few HLW can bridge that gap so this is not locked in for anyone yet. That said Greag Platt has the leade with 381 points in 20 rounds but 16 points behind is John Ryan who has been burning it up in June along with denny velardo & Mike Thomas just one more point making them tied at 3rd place overall so far.

I think the best two days to play leagues are Sunday morning and Tuesday evening. If your in Bryan, OH this next week these are doubly great for playing leagues at the two Fountain City Flyerz leagues. There is a small Ace pool fee if your feeling lucky.

9 out of 10 of the top ten Points leaderboard all have at least one HLW league round, some have two or even three.
Cody Dockrill has 167 from 5 rounds in June, one 4th place, two 2nd places and two 1st places. The HLW at Hudson Springs DGC Tues Night Scrambles where he got 2nd place got him 26×2 = 52 points. Nice month so far Cody. The one who did not have any HLW had to do it Old School and that he did. John Ryan had triple back to back wins at Fountain City Flyerz 2014 Spring Tuesdays until this last week where he settled for 2nd. He still triple back to back wins on Fountain City Flyerz 2014 Spring Sundays and this Sunday is their HLW. I feel some Double points coming on..... Great play to everyone on the Points leaderboard.

Well it's been a busy month so far for many. Mike Thomas has already got in 5 rounds - topping the Rounds leaderboard for June by hitting 4 different leagues (Disc Golf Gypsy), three for DOUBLE POINTS:
Hudson Springs DGC Tues Night Scrambles
Euclid Monday Night Scrambles <<< Double Points >>>
THursday Big Money League <<< Double Points >>>
Sunday dubs <<< Double Points >>>
And that currently has Mike at 3rd for most points in June - Nicely done....
Also busy this month John Ryan racking up the Wins with 3 so far in June holding the top spot on the Wins leaderboard with Denny Velardo & Cody Dockrill close behind him tied for 2nd with 2 wins each.
It's always interesting to me if this crazy Double Points for the HLW really makes a difference. Well it seemed to help Mike Thomas and I think "SpiGGy" would agree as well. Mike "SpiGGy" Broda also made it to three HLWs in June so far and it helped him amass 100 points so far, topping the June Points leaderbaord. Cody Dockrill is right there with 99 points from 4 rounds, with two wins and an Ace at Sunday dubs. Mike Thomas & denny verardo are tied at 3rd with 86 so far. I'd have to dig a bit deeper to see if either of the Mikes had played these leagues before but I know it gives players just a little bit more reason to travel an visit leagues they have not visited in the past or revisiting a league they normally just can't make it to on a regular basis. The end result more players playing more often, spreading the good ideas and sharing the Double fun with more friends.
So with about 6 weeks left in the OhCPS the current overall standings are looking like this:
All Leaderboards » Overall Points
Player Points Rounds
1 Mike "SpiGGy" Broda 311 18
2 denny velardo 305 16
3 Mike Thomas 301 28
4 Mark Festi 284 26
5 Greg Platt 281 16
6 PK Deaner 251 13
7 Cody Dockrill 225 14
8 John Ryan 219 10
9 Larry Bright Jr. 218 14
10 James Humphrey 217 13
11 Don Thomas 197 14
12 Ryan "Tuni" P 192 12
13 Ryan Thumber 186 16
14 Nick Schultz 182 8
15 Joe Michelini 173 13
15 nate lawson 173 13
17 Marc Theodore 165 10
18 duane koczan 162 10
19 Benjamin Wonders 158 10
20 Dan Keller 150 10
Still plenty of Double Point rounds, League Wins and Aces to make a run for it by the end of the season.
Enjoy the Rounds - Peace.

A quick look atthe May stats from the monthly leaderboard.
Most rounds in May with 13 - Mark Festi. Another die hard was Mike Thomas with 9 rounds. Way to get out and enjoy guys.
Rounds
1 Mark Festi 13
2 Mike Thomas 9
3 Mike "SpiGGy" Broda 7
3 Greg Platt 7
3 Joe Michelini 7
3 Ryan Kolbus 7
7 Benjamin Wonders 6
7 John Ryan 6
7 nate lawson 6
7 Ryan "Tuni" P 6
7 Larry Bright Jr. 6
7 duane koczan 6
Now with 13 rounds you know Mark had to be visiting a few different leagues - Right you are - 4 different leagues to make him one of the three Disc Golf Gypsies for the month of May. Mike Thomas & Greg Platt were the other two Gypsies.
Looks like they all compete at a few of the same leagues:
THursday Big Money League
Sunday dubs
2014 Roscoe Ewing Scrambles
Hudson Springs DGC Tues Night Scrambles
And get out to a few others as well:
wingfoot Zeppelin glow league 2014
Saturday Scrambles
Euclid Monday Night Scrambles
Leagues
1 Mark Festi 4
1 Mike Thomas 4
1 Greg Platt 4
4 Mike "SpiGGy" Broda 3
4 Marc Theodore 3
4 melissa martin 3
4 Joe Michelini 3
4 Cody Dockrill 3
4 Brian Shega 3
4 Larry Bright Jr. 3
4 duane koczan 3
Win's in May was taken by John Ryan - making the most of the rounds at
Fountain City Flyerz 2014 Spring 2014 Sunday Afternoon Leagues & Tuesday Night Leagues. That also helped him get to the top of the Sunday league leaderboard and currently in 4th on Tuesday evening league. Well played Ryan - keep it up.
Stephan Brown had three wins in May, which was a win in all three of the OhCPS rounds he played in May.
Saturday Scrambles
Euclid Monday Night Scrambles
Also with three win was Greg Platt with wins at wingfoot Zeppelin glow league 2014, Saturday Scrambles and got his third in a row win at Hudson Springs DGC Tues Night Scrambles.
Wins
1 John Ryan 5
2 Stephen Brown 3
2 Greg Platt 3
4 Mark Festi 2
4 Joe Michelini 2
4 duane koczan 2
4 Bill Perry 2
4 Dan Keller 2
9 Ian Kuehn 1
9 Jordan Verbiak 1
9 Chris Warfield 1
9 Louis Salinas II 1
9 Brian Taylor 1
9 Nick Bacon 1
So it will not be a big surprise after all those stats that the most points goes to Mark Festi - who was at the top position of three of the four leaderboards and within the top 4 of the 4th leaderbaord, which helped him amass 149 points in the month of May. Also no surprise that John Ryan was right there as well with 130, along with Greg Platt with 110.
Keep that up because in June & July with double points anything can happen.
Points
1 Mark Festi 149
2 John Ryan 130
3 Greg Platt 110
4 duane koczan 98
4 Ryan "Tuni" P 98
4 Joe Michelini 98
7 Larry Bright Jr. 96
8 Mike "SpiGGy" Broda 93
9 Benjamin Wonders 92
10 James Humphrey 89
So after all that what has happened to the overall leaderboard?
Surprise - ok no surprise - Mark Festi is at the top after 22 rounds and 236 points. But 17 points down is denny velardo at 2nd with 219 that he achieved in only 13 rounds. Mike Thomas is right there as well just 4 points further at 215 - ready to make a move. Going all the way down to the tie at 9th John Ryan & James Humphrey are just 83 points out of first which is well within striking distance with 8 weeks left and many double point rounds ahead.

Plan your summer of disc golf League - get out and see those other courses you've been wanting to visit and get Double Points and Double the Fun.
Enjoy the rounds - Peace
So the Spring is finally starting to take shape and the Ohio Cooperative Point Series Summer season is starting to heat up as well. Just a few weeks in and the leaderboard is already highlighting some of the great state talent. We'll take a peek at the leaderboard to check out what's Hot and Who is shooting it. I also like to see who the disc golf gypsies are? You know those players that are always going some place new to play, they know all the courses and always have stories to tell. ... more
So the Spring is finally starting to take shape and the Ohio Cooperative Point Series Summer season is starting to heat up as well. Man we are blessed to have so many courses throughout the state with more each year which is also the case with leagues; Singles, doubles, putting, bag tags, skins, safari, glow,....Oh do we know how to have fun.....
I know I have posted this in almost every message that after May 3rd the OhCPS-Summer locks and no new leagues can be added. But still after May 3rd I know I will get a few message that say "hey can you please add our league to the OhCPS, we have players who are asking about getting points for their rounds?" and it kills me to say SORRY. That is why I try so hard to avoid having to say that - so I ask you to bare with me. It's just one of those rules that helps make this work, and fair to the 70 players who are already playing in the 11 leagues we have so far - but we look forward to adding your league next season.....
On May 15th I will randomly assign a Highlighted League of the Week date on the OhCPS schedule for each participating league. At that round points will be Doubled. And that normally means that more players are attending and so it becomes a Point Bonanza. Watch the schedule and note the posts to secure as many points and have a great reason to travel to other courses and play other leagues - Road Trip - Car Pool - Double the fun!
If you run a league and you have a special date in June or July send it to me by May 15th and I will use that instead of randomly assigning your Highlighted League of the Week (HLW). Also you can send me any special details about your league or plans for that round and I will add it to my highlight so everyone in the OhCPS has a chance to see what is going on throughout the state in advance of the event.

OK now most that venture into my kind of long winded - grammar challenged posts know I like to dig into the stats and look for trends - now that a bunch of the administrative things are done I can devote a little effort to that here and in future posts. Did I mention the OhCPS locks on May 3rd....
OK so I like to start with the weekly leaderboards to see who is playing the most and who is collecting the most points. These leaderboards have a few surprises from time to time but are a good indicator of who the top performers are even if they can not continue for the whole season.
The most rounds played in a week for April was, Mark Festi & Mike Thomas with 4 rounds each. The list is getting to long at two rounds so here are the players with 3 rounds or more in a given week:
April Round leaders above 2 rounds per week
1 Mark Festi 4
1 Mike Thomas 4
3 Don Thomas 3
1 Mike Thomas 3
1 Larry Bright Jr. 3
1 Mike Thomas 3
Now the more you play the better your odds that your point total will climb faster since you have the opportunity to maximize your two best rounds for the week. But what are the biggest point combinations achieved each week?
Well the most points amassed by a player in a given week in April was 47 pts - now that was actually achieved in just one round with and Ace for an extra 25 points and he did it Twice during April at 2014 Roscoe Ewing Scrambles, Roscoe Ewing Park. Nicely done Nick. Cody Dockrill was close behind with a 44pt week just edging out Ron McCollum by one point who also had a great week with 43 pts.
Well played guys.
1 Nick Schultz 47 x2 weeks Nicely done Nick
2 Cody Dockrill 44
3 Ron McCollum 43
Top point getters by week:
1 Nick Schultz 47
2 Cody Dockrill 44
3 Ron McCollum 43
4 Mike "SpiGGy" Broda 41
5 PK Deaner 38
6 Brian Parsons 34
1 Mike Thomas 39
1 denny velardo 39
3 Mitch G 34
3 Steven Cain 34
5 Mike "SpiGGy" Broda 32
6 Mark Festi 30
1 Nick Schultz 47
2 denny velardo 33
3 Mike "SpiGGy" Broda 24
4 Mike Thomas 22
4 Dan Keller 22
1 Mike Thomas 39
2 Larry Bright Jr. 33
3 eric " Sharky " boyd 18
4 Thomas Golubski 16
The April monthly leaderboard currently only has three weeks since the last week is split between April and May so with just three of the April weeks the most league wins belongs to denny velardo with 3 and back to back at THursday Big Money League, Veterans Memorial Park.
Greg Platt, Larry Bright Jr. & Nick Schultz were right behind him with 2 wins each. Nicely done
Wins
1 denny velardo 3
2 Greg Platt 2
2 Larry Bright Jr. 2
2 Nick Schultz 2
5 Dan Keller 1
5 Brian Parsons 1

I love to see players get out to several different leagues. This helps spread the good ideas and make the rounds more fun for everyone. I just dream of being able to get out that much so I live my disc golf dream vicariously through these Disc Golf Gypsies. Mark Festi, Brian Shega & Mike Thomas are our April Disc Golf gypsies managing to get to 4 different leagues in these three weeks. Man are we lucky with the number of leagues throughout the week in so many areas and still growing.
Leagues
1 Mark Festi 4
1 Brian Shega 4
1 Mike Thomas 4
4 nate lawson 3
4 eric " Sharky " boyd 3
4 Greg Platt 3
4 Mike "SpiGGy" Broda 3
4 Larry Bright Jr. 3
9 Mitch G 2
9 Ryan Kolbus 2
9 Steven Cain 2
9 melissa martin 2
9 PK Deaner 2
9 Ryan "Tuni" P 2
Not everyone can play 4-9 times a week and that is why we try and balance things out by keeping just the two best rounds per week but if you can get not only should your game improve but the point total should be maximized each week. So watch for Mike Thomas lurking in the wood near you and taking home all those points with 9 rounds in three weeks - way to play Mike. Mike "SpiGGy" Broda, denny velardo & Mark Festi each had 6 rounds - loving the spring weather....
Rounds
1 Mike Thomas 9
2 Mike "SpiGGy" Broda 6
2 denny velardo 6
2 Mark Festi 6
5 Brian Shega 5
5 Adam Reid 5
5 James Humphrey 5
8 Ryan Keats 4
8 Larry Bright Jr. 4
8 Greg Platt 4
8 PK Deaner 4
8 nate lawson 4
8 Ryan Kolbus 4
8 Don Thomas 4
Now the ultimate goal of the point Series is points and for these three weeks of April 110 points was the highest accrual achieved by Mike Thomas - the Ace on Hole 5 of 2014 Roscoe Ewing Scrambles, Roscoe Ewing Park - was just the ticket to jump to the top of this leaderboard. Followed closely by denny velardo with 107 - three back to back wins was his method. Way to get over the 100 pt mark in just three weeks guys.
Points
1 Mike Thomas 110
2 denny velardo 107
3 Mike "SpiGGy" Broda 82
4 Nick Schultz 81
5 Mark Festi 69
6 Adam Reid 64
7 nate lawson 63
8 Larry Bright Jr. 62
9 Greg Platt 60
10 James Humphrey 58
10 PK Deaner 58
So what did this do to the overall standing to date?
86 points separates 20th place from 1st so anything can happen, anyone can make their move or slowly and stead sneak up to claim the top position on the leaderboard and be crowned Ohio State Disc Golf League Champion. Our Winter Champion is currently positioned at 10th place - Larry Bright Jr. with 76pts. 5 points separates him from 9th place James Humphrey. Only 3 pts to 8th which Ryan Keats currently holds from 6 rounds. 7th pace and also 6 rounds with a 2 pt lead is Greg Platt with his three league wins helping to secure that 7th place but still chasing PK Deaner who also played 6 rounds but managed an extra ten points that landed him at 6th place. Mark Festi proves you don't have to win rounds you just have to be consistently near the top to collect lots of points and the 5th spot on the leaderboard. Mike "SpiGGy" Broda demonstrated the same but mixed in a win at Sunday dubs, Veterans Memorial Park to edge up to 4th with 8 rounds and 123 pts. Now you can do it with less rounds but you better be Spot On - like Nick Schultz with only 4 rounds but three back to back wins and two Aces - Hole 5 and 6 at 2014 Roscoe Ewing Scrambles, Roscoe Ewing Park to lock in 3rd place. Can he keep that up? denny velardo shows he is here to play with 8 rounds and three back to back wins at THursday Big Money League, Veterans Memorial Park. So denny spend those Big Bucks wisely and keep up the great play. I think 13 rounds shows our # 1 spot - top of the leaderboard means business. With two league wins at THursday Big Money League & Hudson Springs DGC Tues Night Scrambles, Hudson Springs Park and an ACE at 2014 Roscoe Ewing Scrambles - What Hole #5 again.... That is going to be the OhCPS Points bonanza Ace hole for the season I'm predicting. Way to get it done Mike Thomas our current ohCPS summer season leader.

DGLA: Ohio Cooperative Point Series - Summer 2014
16 week State Wide Disc Golf League Point Series
Sunday April 6th 2014 - Saturday July 26th 2014
Important Deadlines:
*** May 3rd - Last day to add any leagues to the Ohio Cooperative Point Series.
*** May 14th - Last day for leagues to submit their desired Highlighted League of the Week (HLW) - Double Points - round.
May 15th - The remaining league HLW dates will be assigned randomly.
June and July:
HLW will be shown on the schedule - Highlighted in light Green and "Double Points!" to the right.
July 26th - Last round of the Point Series. Leagues have one week to post recent rounds or make any corrections to previous rounds posted. Then the Champion will be announced.
If you play in a league that is not in the OhCPS send me the link to the league About page to see if it can be added. Even leagues that have not started but will have rounds before July 26th can join as long as the league is already posted. All leagues must be added by May 3rd. Handicapped leagues must post adjusted scores to be included.
Currently 11 Leagues & 59 Players have already played in participating Leagues.
If you played a league round and do not see the round in your DGLA OhCPS stats: 1) Check the league to see if that round has been posted.
2) If it is posted ensure you are linked to the league properly (Check you profile to see if the round shows on your About page or Stats page)
3) Send me a link to the league leaderboard and tell me which date and I will investigate.
I have had a few question about points calculations and "Dropped" rounds.
Point Calculation Summary - The standard calculation is 2 points for participation, 1 point for each player you beat (ties do not count as beat) and 2 points if you are the outright winner (no tie for first). Now for leagues less than 20 players. The points are awarded from the top down, so even a league with 4 players the winner gets points as if there was 20 and then it counts down. More than 60 players the points are capped at 60. HLW use the same formula but double the result.
Aces count for 25 pts. not double during HLW.
"Dropped" Rounds:
If you see "Dropped" next to a round on your DGLA OhCPS Stats page this means you played more than 2 rounds in that week and this was not one of your two highest scores and so it was dropped. It still counts towards # of Leagues & Rounds leaderboards.

* Highlighted League of the Week (HLW)
************
We will be updating the Point Series Schedule to give Double Points to each league throughout June and July . We try and highlight the league to help players know what other leagues are doing and to give the players some added motivation to travel and experience these other leagues and other courses.
If leagues have any special events or dates that they want to have their HLW on or to avoid let Foz know. Otherwise I will be randomly assigning them before May 15th.
You can identify HLW on the schedule. They are highlighted and Say "Double points!" off to the right.

Enjoy the warmer rounds - Peace
