Next League - Update

Hi - I'm planning to keep this league going, with another Tuesday sanctioned singles, probably starting next week. Ace Pot, which was not hit this league, will carry over to this league.

Here are the changes:

No Alcantra or Girdwood rounds - those saw sparse attendance and even I had some trouble getting out for them. Too much travel for a Tuesday night. League will by default alternate between Peter's Creek and Davis.

May cycle in a Kincaid round - we didn't have huge attendance numbers on any week, so that makes me think we can get a round in at Kincaid without it taking 4 hours.

Finally, we're going back to a non-handicap league. During the summer, there's too much nice weather for me to sit in front of a spreadsheet and figure out who won. I'll post more details on the actual league page, but it'll be three pools, basically sub-800, 800-900, and 900+ ratings. We'll still do payouts afterwards, but this will help people see whether they won their pool or not sooner, without having to wait for me to do the spreadsheet.

Noon tomorrow (Saturday July 10) at Peter's Creek! Hoping to get a great turnout for the final week of league - ace pot is at $120 plus however many people show up tomorrow. Let me know you're coming/prepay if you can!

ALERT - FINAL WEEK DATE CHANGE

Is anyone really married to Tuesday nights? If not, I'd like to propose making the final league week this Saturday, July 10. The reason we don't have this on Saturdays is that there are tournaments, but there's no Alaska tourney this weekend. Figure this will allow more people to play. Speak now or forever hold your PC.

Beautiful day for disc golf on Tuesday, and we all ruined it by shooting terribly! Only one player (Jake) under par! But Davis is tough, and I hope we all had fun at least.

Andrew Rodgers took down A Pool with a 58 raw score, shooting even on the front 9, and keeping the back damage to a minimum. Will Graham edged me out both score and adjusted-scorewise for second.

Week 5 Recap Briefly

Hi, folks - just got the scores up and the payouts - those will go out at some point in the next couple of days, probably with the week 6 payouts. 4-round tournaments in Nikiski put me a little behind.

Nice work to Chad McCaffrey and Chet Manley, taking down B and A Pools, respectively. Chad and some other folks managed to ruin the ratings for this week - boy were they rough! Nice shooting though! Week 5 - Peter's Creek

Kristin White powered her way to a B-pool victory with a 58. Weslee "Super Flower Blood" Moon put an exclamation point, not a period, on his round to finish second in B-pool.

I'm going to have to sort out the cash once I get back on Monday - payouts for Week 3 should have all gone out by now...but what you WILL be getting when I get back is up.

Please let me know early if you're coming to week 5 at Peter's Creek! I'd much rather you sign up and then let me know an hour beforehand that you're not coming, than not sign up and tell me an hour beforehand that you ARE coming. So if you think there's a chance you'll play, let me know and I'll put you in there.

Make sure to let me know you'll be there this week - remember as is always true, both ADGA and MSDGA members get the lower entry fee of $8. Tell your valley friends to be there - 6:45 tee-off time, and we could have a group or two start later if necessary, if you'll take a little while getting there from Anchorage.

Week 3 payout/Week 4 update

Hi folks - due to a personal issue, Week 3 payouts have not gone out yet and I will not be there in person Week 4. I'll get those payouts out in the next couple days - but in the meantime sign up for Week 4 like regular. It'll be up at AlCan. We'll start at 6:45, but if you need until 7 or a little later to get up there, I think we can arrange for later start times - the rounds have been going really quickly. Just 14 folks came out to Girdwood this week - would have liked to see more, but turns out that the 2.5-hour return trip means the ones who didn't come out were the smart ones, apparently.

Adam Cooper took down A pool with a very solid 50. Aaron Ressler justified his high rating with a league-best 47, and finished in the cash.

Irvin Godina shot well above his rating, and took down B Pool with a solid 51, and Hunter continued his hot play to take second with a 50. Next ratings update ... more

Sanctioned singles is at Girdwood this Tuesday! We're extending the start time forward just a smidge to 6:45 because of the long drive - if you're going to have trouble making it precisely on time, just let me know and we'll try to accommodate. We might be able to do a later-starting card or two for someone who can't get down until 7. Most important thing is to let me know if you're coming!

Week 2 Recap

Great weather and great disc golf on a much-more-difficult Peter's Creek last night! 20 folks made it out.

Justin Dunker just annihilated the course and the rest of the field with a 48, 5 strokes better than anyone else. That was also enough to pick up the handicap adjusted win in A Pool as well. Hunter Thompson also shot a really hot round that would have won almost any other week, but was good for second.

Week 1 went great - 16 folks came out for week 1 of the league. The baskets were all in new positions, so the course played really tough - no easy birdies anymore! Jake, Robinson, and I shot the hot rounds with 54s, and Robinson took A pool because of his slightly better handicap. Tyler Pohler crushed his rating and took down B pool with a raw score of 67, but an adjusted score of 46.9. Payouts will go out some time this weekend likely - if you paid me in cash, I might have to track someone else down with a Venmo or a Paypal in order to pay you.

Since no rated rounds have been played in the pin positions on Peter's Creek, I'm going to start with 12 points per stroke, but I reserve the right to adjust that depending on how people shoot. You can see how that works in the second tab of that spreadsheet - I graph everyone's adjusted scores versus rating, and I change the Points Per Stroke. When the regression line gets to flat, that means that I have the Points Per Stroke right, so that on average having a higher or a lower rating isn't an advantage. Sometimes I exclude outliers - this week since there were only 16 people and Tyler and Kristin (who have ratings on the lower end) shot pretty great rounds, if I were using this week's data, I'd think about excluding them because not removing them would imply about 17 Points Per Stroke is appropriate. Sometimes people just shoot hot! So, probably doing 12 Points Per Stroke for PC this week. And if you look at that sheet, if your rating isn't in red or yellow, that's the rating you're going to have until the next ratings update.

Hi folks - got the sanctioned summer league set up. Let me know in comments below if you plan to play in the league, even if you won't necessarily be playing week 1. That way I can enter you into the PDGA league, and then whenever you show up it'll be easier to give you a hole assignment.
