What a way to bid the Winter session farewell !!!!

Yes only one more day to register and have a shot at 4 MDGO Mi State Championship berths and to grab a few more points along with some cold hard cash so your ready for the summer leagues. There is just one more week before the Michigan Cooperative Point Series Winter Grand Finale to wrap up the season.

Hope everyone enjoyed the Winter season and seeing who is playing and how everyone is doing.

Enjoy the grass beneath your feet and not having to shovel tee pads and leaving 1-3 layers at home and watching spring begin to transform the fairways. What an awesome sport and we are blessed here in Michigan with some of the best courses and coolest leagues.

Wow – warmer weather. We can actually see grass in the fairways. A sign that the Winter Leagues are winding down.

This Saturday (Mar 19th) is the last day of the regular season for the Michigan Cooperative Point Series – Winter. After this date individual leagues may continue but the rounds do not get counted towards MiCPS-W points.

The last chance for Points is the MiCPS-W Grand Finale – celebrate the end of a great white winter season of disc golf leagues. This Saturday is also the last chance to register for the MiCPS Grand Finale. All registration money and some added money is going to be paid out. Everyone is going to get some payout based on your final point standing.
Ypsi Dubs players have the Ypsi Dubs League Pool money they are playing also playing for. Every qualified Ypsi Dubs player will get some of the League Pool money – Nice!

Two rounds of disc golf in better weather than we have had all season. New tee pads on the Chuck D and a few choice holes on the Picnic Courses will be in just for this event.

The MiCPS - Summer will be starting up in mid April. There are some new features in the works and based of feedback we are hard at work on a few tweaks to the points system. Thanks for everyone’s feedback and suggestions. For the players by the players.

Why would you want pay $25 to play in the MICPS Winter League Finale?

-MDGO State Finals Berths: Four will be awarded. Two will go to the overall points leaders (total points after the finale) and two will go to the best combined score for the day. So if you are at the bottom of the points table then you still have a chance to qualify for the MI State Finals.
-Points Payouts: EVERYONE will be paid out. The more points you have the higher payout you will receive.
-Score Payouts: Like a traditional tournament, the best scores on the day will also receive a cash payout.
-The course: Two rounds at Independence Lake, now with concrete pads!
-League Pool for Ypsi Dubs. Extra cash to play for if you have at least five Ypsi Dubs winter rounds recorded.

Format: Two Rounds of 18 holes. 1st round is doubles. 2nd round is singles.

The Homestretch: Less than Three Weeks Left in the Michigan Cooperative Winter Point Series

We've got a close battle going on for the overall winter league points champion. As of 5:00pm on 2/28/11 Mark Ellis has a slim 60 point lead over 2nd place Mike Frame. Dale Wrobel, Joe Olson and Jim Daniels are close behind! These last weeks of the Kensington league should determine who will have the poll position going into the finale!

The final day for league points is March 19th with the Winter Grand Finale the following week - Saturday March 26th at Independence Lake in Whitmore Lake, MI.

Everyone who comes to the grand finale will receive a payout, how much depends on your final standing.

We are currently in the planning stages for the summer league season. We will be tweaking the points formula for the summer series. More to come soon. We also welcome all feedback so feel free to contact Scott White or Foz Miller to give suggestions of any kind.

A quick update to start the New Year off.

There are 16 leagues and currently 256 players in the MiCPS-W 2010/11.
There have been a lot of double points rounds due to cold weather. If the temp drops below 15 degrees F with wind chill that round is eligible for double points but that must be reported to us so we can verify the data and update the schedule. Stay warm - looks like there are many more Double Point rounds ahead.

Now sooner or later it will warm up and we can begin to look forward to some nice spring time rounds and celebrating the culmination of the Winter Point Series at the Grand Finale, Saturday, March 26, 2011.

Currently there are 144 spots available for this event. Depending on demand we can expand this but March 19th 2011 (1 week before the Finale), registration will close as we will have to wrap-up final arrangements for the event.

The location will be determined soon based on the location of the majority of the registrants and staff volunteers and course availability. More soon on the event page.

The Disc Golf League Association (DGLA) is proud to host the 2nd annual, Michigan Cooperative Point Series – Winter. (MiCPS-W) for 2010/11. The Winter season was the start of it all and is a proving grounds for new ideas.

The MiCPS-W 2010/11 brings leagues and players closer together. Through the use of Disc Golf Scene all the scores, pictures, videos and chat from all leagues and players come together, enabling all the players throughout the state to see who is doing what, what new things each league is doing and what is new or going on at each of the courses. Growing the sport of Disc Golf together and coming together to celebrate the Spring thaw at the end of the season and to crown the Michigan State Disc Golf League Winter Champion. The the Summer Point Series will start up.

So get out and play in the snow.

MiCPS-W 2010/11:
Sunday Nov 21 – Saturday March 19th
Leagues can always run outside the MiCPS-W dates but MiCPS-W points will only accumulate between these dates.

The Finale is March 26th

New League Cutoff Date: Dec 31st 2010 – last day to add any additional leagues to the MiCPS Winter 2010/11.

Cost: There is no fee to be in the MiCPS-W 2010/11, you just play league rounds in participating leagues and your scores are automatically included. You must have a Disc Golf Scene profile which is also free.


Key highlights and details for Winter:

Winter Aces: Worth 50 points – League Admin – this is automatically calculated so if you want to use a different point system for your individual league Aces you can.

Ice Cold Points: If the temperature drops below 15 degrees with wind chill for your league round, the league Admin just needs to notify us and we will confirm the weather data and update the schedule for that league round to Double Points.

HLW: The Highlighted League of the Week (HLW) schedule will be indicated on the Schedule. The league dates are highlighted in light green with the comment “Double points!”. Get out and get some double points. This is a great time to make it out to one of the other leagues or courses.

Ice Cold Points and HLW - Double points will not combined for quadruple points – chill’n thought thou.

Remember the MiCPS automatically keeps your best two rounds per week when calculating your MiCPS total points. This is automatically recalculated when ever new scores are posted or scores are updated.

New this Season:

League Pools: A new option this season provides leagues more visibility to all players and some extra competition during the MICPS Winter Finale. Leagues can decide to gather some extra funds throughout the season. They determine and post their qualification requirements so players know in advance (example: player must have played 5 regular league rounds during the session to be eligible). The amount in the league pool is posted by the league like an Ace Pool to build the excitement as the League Pool grows throughout the season. The league’s League Pool amount and qualified players list is provided at the end of the season and available at the Finale. Players can see which League Pools they are also competing in during the Finale, how much extra $$$ and with whom they are competing against for each League Pool they qualified for. A little extra competition with the players you play league with most often, and a little extra money added to the overall payout of the event. Each league with a League Pool is more involved with the Finale and highlights their critical role in the success of the Mi Cooperative Point Series. Should be a Win/Win for leagues and players. You must play in the Finale to have a shot at the extra money and honors.

Leagues can purchase MiCPS berths to award to players how ever they see fit. League purchase berth and the spot is annotated with league’s name until player name is provided. Note all MiCPS-W berth must be awarded and submitted to DGLA by March 12th. ( 2 weeks before Finale)

League rounds for MiCPS-W points end Mar 19th, a week before the Finale. Leagues can continue but the MiCPS-W points stop accumulating based on regular league play. The Grand Finale is the last chance for points.

There are currently 6 leagues participating in the Mi Winter Cooperative Point Series. All Michigan leagues are welcomed.
League coordinators simply send the DGS link (URL) to your active Mi Winter League to Scott White or Foz Miller and we will add your league.

Based on feedback and our open meeting Oct 29th the following dates were selected. I will post a few more details shortly concerning updates to the Winter format but we wanted to get these dates out as soon as possible to help with planning. The Finale for Winter and Summer will be discussed at an up coming MDGO meeting and then be finalized.

The Highlighted League of the Week schedule will be determined soon based on which leagues are participating.

Winter Ace points is still 50 versus 25 for Summer & the double points for below 15 degrees is still in affect.

We are looking at having regional mid-series events depending on regional league participation and offer berths to the Finale. Registration for the Finale will have a cutoff two weeks before the Finale but registration will open when the series starts, and there will be multiple methods to register - so hopefully 14 weeks is enough time for those who want to attend. The Finale will be slightly changed and more details will follow shortly.

MICPS Winter 2010-2011:

- Start Date: Nov 21st
- Last league Rounds for Points "End Date": March 19th (1 week prior to Finale)

- Finale March 26th (review at MDGO and Finalize)

This later date gives higher probability of better weather for the Finale.
