We will have a separate doubles event going on tomorrow for those of you that want to play and are not yet registered. $10 to get in: random draw doubles on the PICNIC course. Everyone will be playing 18 holes, followed by a final 9 for the top ten in points on the Picnic Course safari layout.

We will see you all in the morning. Registration is 9:00-9:45 in the regular disc golf parking lot, near Chuck D hole 1.

I'm with you Jeff - This will be a record breaking league round. I was there when you guys hit over 100 players on a Sunday and I will be there when your league caps out at 138 and share in those double points. The last double points before the Final Event. Awesome Disc Golf leagues in Michigan!!!!!


Kensington Black Locust:
Completely redesigned for 2009 with all new holes. 18 holes play back to the parking lot to connect to the back 9, which is much longer and tougher. Hilly, mix of woods and open. Demanding placement shots favor lefties heavily.

Next to large beach with many facilities.

Fee: $5/car + $2/player disc golf daily or $25/car + $50/player disc golf annually.

Congratulations! You are a part of disc golf history. This is the largest cooperative league in the history of the game, and now we are going to cap it all off with a grand finale. YES, your points are actually going to be worth some cash!

Morning Doubles Round: All competitors in the Grand Finale will be playing in and eligible for a cash payout for the first round. If you are dead last in points but win the first round you will get a nice payout. The points for this round will carry over as the LAST points earning round for the summer 2010 session. The points for the morning doubles round will have a FOUR (4x) multiplier. THIS IS HUGE. THIS ROUND CAN AND WILL AFFECT THE FINAL POINT STANDINGS.

Player Pack: All competitors in the final event will receive a limited edition MICPS T-shirt to commemorate this historic occasion. Please indicate shirt size when you register.

Points Payouts:
If you are near the top in total points then you will be eligible for an additional payout. The table below shows how many places will be paid out, it all depends on total turnout to the final event.

Turnout to Grand Finale
50 players = Top 20 in points
100 players = Top 40 in points
150 players = Top 60 in points
200 players = Top 80 in points
250 players = Top 100 in points
300 players = Top 120 in points
350 players = Top 140 in points

...and so on. The more people we get the deeper the payouts. You are required to play in the final event to be eligible for the points payouts.

Final 9:
The top 10 in points in attendance at the Grand Finale will be showcasing the skills that put them there in a 9 hole skins match. The 10 finalists will be grouped together as 5 doubles teams. Skin payout to be announced. Grouping will be determined by the TD.

**After Party:
After the event is complete at Independence Lake, the after party will begin at the legendary FARM HOUSE. Free camping Saturday night, live music, drinks will be GOIN DOWN at the Farm House. Oh, and did we mention there is an 18 hole golf course on the property? Bring your glow discs! I am preparing to take orders for MiCPS shirts. I will have examples of the Polo, DriFit and T-Shirts at the MDGO Mi State Championships this weekend as well as 24 DriFits (Large and XL only) for sale.

I'll upload some initial snap shots soon but you can check out the basic shirts info from the links below. All are white but the DriFits have two options for accents, Black and Navy Blue.

These shirts will generate $2 for the local league that is indicated when ordered and $2 for the MiCPS Final Event. Final 9:
The top 10 in points IN ATTENDANCE at the Grand Finale will be showcasing the skills that put them there in a 9 hole skins match. The 10 finalists will be grouped together as 5 doubles teams. Skin payout to be announced. Grouping will be determined by the TD.

**After Party:
After the event is complete at Independence Lake, the after party will begin at the legendary FARM HOUSE. Free camping Saturday night, live music, drinks will be GOIN DOWN at the Farm House. Oh, and did we mention there is an 18 hole golf course on the property? Bring your glow discs! From M-14 exit at Sheldon Road, turn Right onto Sheldon Road, travel 1/2 mile. Turn Right onto 5 Mile Road from Sheldon, proceed downhill about 1/2 mile. When 5 Mile Road dead-ends into Northville Road, turn Left on Northville Road. Travel about 1.2 miles and turn left into Cass-Benton Recreational Area.

From I-275 go west on 7 mile Road (exit 169A). Do not take the 6 Mile Road exit! Travel west approximately 1.5 miles and cross some railroad tracks. Immediately after the tracks, turn left onto Northville Road. Go approximately 3/4 of a mile. The entrance to Cass Benton is on the right.

Once in the recreational area, stay to the right, traveling around a comfort station, just past the playground is where we meet, near hole 12's basket.

We will have our Ypsi Dubs Pre-Round CTP going on during registration. Warm-up and win a special edition MiCPS HLW / Ypsi Dubs etched growler and pint glass and a taste of Michigan for you and a few friends - a family tradition at Ypsi Dubs... 2 throws for a buck.

$6 to play - Payout based on $5/player
-Includes 1 CTP for every 12 players registered.

$2 - Optional Ace Pool - should be well over $200 and pays out 1/2.

$2 - Optional additional CASH CTPs - a 100% payout CTP should be well over $30+ and a 50/50 CTP which pays out half.

Registration: 5:00-6:10p at the picnic table by hole one, next to the practice basket.

Tee-Off: 6:15p sharp - We expect a large turnout (LOT OF POINTS) and the park officially closes at 9:00 so we have to start right at 6:15.

If play is slow for any reason payouts may need to move to a local establishment.

This is a Washtenaw County Park with an entry fee; If you don't have a Washtenaw County season pass the Daily fee is $5.00 per car for county residents and $9.00 for non-residents. The park also has a full water park (additional fee) and a lodge with restrooms - snack bar at the water park is accessible from outside the water park. Thanks for the questions. I don’t have all the answers yet as they will come from the collective efforts of the League Admin that make each individual leagues happen each week and the players; some who just voice their ideas and a few others that will actually lend a hand to make it happen - Both help but the later are the ones that make these things a reality.

The goal is to make this something we all will view as worth doing (playing and contributing too). Combine that with the reality that no matter how much effort some put in and how much stuff could be made or donated there are still a lot of stuff that would need to be paid for and were does that money come from? Again there are several ideas coming from the group. We actually have a League Coordinators group to have these types of discussions and as soon as any info is ready it is then spread out for players to comment on.

Ok here are some answers to your questions. I have inserted a few answers to your questions to help for now:

Yup! The most obvious and IMHO prestigious results will be the crowning of the Michigan Disc Golf League Champion. I used to joke a bit about this and have gone back and forth in my mind what this really means. When we started we had 7-10 leagues and hoping more would join and help define the potential of having many leagues cooperating together. I guess we were not far off on the potential and others saw it as well. Now we have 36 leagues spread throughout the great disc golf state of Michigan, 640 players and growing. I watch the MiCPS leaderboard to see who had a good week, who jumped into the top ten and of course how am I doing. I could expound on this topic for hours, on what I have learned and how my opinion has changed from time to time as I watch the leaderboard update after each league round is posted or a week comes to and end. It’s cool just to be on the list but to be near the top, for 600 + players to see your name, and friends all over the state to send a quick message related to that weeks events – good or bad is just amazing. And I can now say without a doubt that when I look at the players at the top of the leaderboard I would be speechless and extremely proud to find myself in that top position.

So Yes Crowning the Michigan Disc Golf League Champion is one obvious and now one extremely worth wild title but what else?

“I read all of the literature and from what I can tell there will be a league state champ crowned, but are there any goodies to win by getting the most points? “

Goodies – were back to money and time. Several people have brought up sponsorship and we would love to do this. The potential now for a company to be seen throughout the whole state – not just to 600+ players but well over 2-3 thousand or more, with rounds played every day of the week for 27 weeks is a potential that some companies will begin to see a significant advantage. And if they are willing to help us grow we are surely willing to help them and both grow together as this gets bigger and bigger and better and better. Leagues definitely have the potential to be many times bigger than Tournaments and reach a much larger and diverse group. We hope to offer MiCPS shirts soon – raising $2 for the players defined league and $2 for the MiCPS final event per shirt and offer some pretty cool shirts. Discs are another fund raising option and both show the power of the cooperation of the leagues. Individual leagues have inherent trouble with ordering any stuff – minimal orders, up front cash, and will they all sell… With the buying power of the group and a grass roots distribution system we can get some stuff and no league has to risk any up front money ect. If that works than combined with the Final event entry fee we can do some cool stuff and have player packs and some goodies to help recognize the achievements of so many over this summer session.

Well you get the idea and Pete can have the DGS engine slicing and dice’n numbers every which way and we hope to be able to recognize many of these accomplishments somehow. Let’s see what donations, sponsorship and how much funds we can raise and then pair that with the creativity that this group represents to see what can be done for this first MiCPS Final Event.

“Also is it possible to only play one participating league round all summer, compete in and win the tournament and be crowned the state league champ?”

Oh finally an easy one – NO!
Although all the details of the final event are not clear or defined yet, these points are:
1) You have to have played at least one participating league round to be eligible to play in the Final Event.
2) The Champion will be the player with the highest point count after the last round is complete. The last round being a round played at the final event.

The Final Event may have a point multiplier, similar to the Highlighted League of the Week (HLW) but if you have not been playing all session the point’s multiplier will not be enough to catapult you to the top position but means a few more players will have a shot at being the Michigan Disc Golf League Champion for Summer 2010.

Well as June is past we no longer will add new leagues to the MiCPS. Hopefully soon we will provide more details of what can be expected at the Final Event so that we can have a preregistration that will close about a month ahead of time so we can determine if we have 200 players, 400 or more and then how many courses and other facilities we need to make this possible. This planning is tough with so many great ideas, players in all different areas of the state. But I am very impressed with the number of people who are willing to discuss ideas and work through the problems and lend a hand – It’s one of the great things about the people that this sport attracts.

What I can share is that we are discussing possible formats that would allow large group of players to play at the same time, to be as fair as possible and contain many of the same attributes of a typical league outing – just with a whole lot more players. This combined with some extra fun both in the competitive sense and the social – two key attributes of DG leagues. Scott White is great in organizing and managing such events and has many great ideas. The final 9 was his idea for the Ann Arbor Cooperative point Series Final Event and it was amazing. Final 9 for the top players with some $$$ for the skins and a great gallery opportunity to see some great disc golf played. We want to have the ability for people to camp, stay close and cheap, if they have to travel and desire to stay close to nature. Of course you need to have an awards ceremony. Yes most of us are used to sitting in the pavilion or a picnic table or at the trunk of the league coordinators car but, we’d like to make this a bit more memorable. A couple bands to keep the festive spirit pumping, maybe a flymart to help both vendors and players connect and prepare for future rounds. Wow so many things, so little time and money – I guess I better get back to reading more of the suggestions and comments to see what everyone wants and who and how together we are going to make this thing a reality.

Mixed league - 106 active players

**We will be playing a random draw doubles, we break the players into 2 groups based on handicap, 9 or less are A , and B would be any player above a 9. Then we draw a player from each group to complete a team. Payouts will be for low rounds (no handicap adjustments)

We will be starting at 5:00 this week, so we will start registering around 4-4:30> I will also be out there early to cook brats and hot dogs. We will also have some chips and bottles of water (all compliments of Whitehall Disc Golf)

$2.00 per player for league fee. ($1.00 to club, and $1.00 to the weekly payout.)

$1.00 ace pool, $1.00 CTP, $1.00 Long Putt ($5.00 for everything including league fee)
For this night, we will have 2 CTPs and 2 LPS (no extra charge)
Ace Pool total is $100 as of May 24 (Players have an option to pay missed weeks to be eligible for the entire amount; otherwise players are only eligible for the week(s) they paid.

We have 3 loops of 9 holes, for leagues we usually play 2 loops, which change every week. For this week we will play the Deep 9 and the Back 9. We play all league rounds from the long tees. There are two rock gardens with Michigan Cactus growing in them that are OB on #11. Other than that, there are no Mandatorys or OB anywhere else in these two loops. (If time permits, we may go 27)

I will have some discs available for sale from our annual Harvest Moon Tourney; otherwise there will be some discs for sale as well. I have Club mini's for sale ($5.00 for a set), all proceeds go to the course.
I will payout at the course, immediately following the round.

Exit 11 off I-275, south of I-94. Go east on S. Huron which dead-ends into park. Turn right there to the course at Acorn Knoll picnic area. 1st tee off to left at turn-around.

Note there is construction on 275 near 94 so expect some delays - plan to be there early and get some practice in before the round starts. Registration closes at 1:00.


Note this is a Metro Park so if you have a Metro park pass you are good to go for entry, otherwise standard Metro Park fee are charged. There is no Pay to Play at this park just the weekly league fees mentioned above.

"PDGC and Blizzard Hills is the Highlighted League of the Week, so get your gear and take a road trip.
Tee Off is at 6:00, partners are drawn at 5:55. The cost is $5.00 to play and $2.00 Ace Pool ($1.00 of the $5.00 goes to the club's savings to pay our Liability Insurance). Ace Pool is Mando unless you opt out for the entire season. There are ALWAYS donated CTP and/or Long Putt prizes given away weekly without any additional fee.We play 18 holes from the long tees with all OB's and Mando's in effect. The PDGC awards points for our course series by giving 10 points for first, 8 for second, 6 for third, 4 for fourth and 2 points for fifth. From M-59: Take Rochester Rd. north about 5 miles to Tienken Rd. Take a right at Tienken, go about 3 miles to Shelby Rd. Take Shelby Rd north. It gets a little tricky from here, but if you follow the signs to the park entrance, you'll be ok. If not, veer to the left at the fork in the road, towards the park entrance. Go through the toll booth, and veer to the right at the next fork in the road. The disc golf course is in the first parking lot on your right. There's a post that marks the beginning of the course.

Note this is a Metro Park so if you have a Metro park pass you are good to go for entry, otherwise standard Metro Park fee are charged. There is a $2 daily charge to play disc golf at Stony unless you have a Metropark disc golf pass.

Summer Summary: We’re off and fly’n

A quick message to provide a summary of where we are, why we are doing this, how it all works and what to expect over the MiCPS 2010 summer season.

Well a great spring so far – almost all the summer leagues are off and running. The Michigan Cooperative Points Series (MiCPS) has 25 current leagues participating, with 60 league rounds logged in the Point Series so far, 292 unique “registered” players are in the MiCPS of the total 1600 players if we combine each leagues Active Player numbers. Remember –not all players in the leagues are “registered” in the Point Series – meaning they do not have a profile on Disc Golf Scene (DGS) to enable the automation of accumulating points from each league they play. The profile number is the unique key or reference to identify players in different leagues. If you are reading this in an email from DGS than you have a profile – if a friend sent it to you or you are reading it online you may not. If you’ve played a league round in a participating MiCPS league you should be on the MiCPS Leader Board.

Here is something you can do as a player in your local league: Encourage those regular league players that do not have an account on DGS to sign up to join the fun. More people participating just makes this whole thing more fun and truly gives us 'Strength in Numbers.

So what is the the Michigan Cooperative Points Series (MiCPS) and what is this all about? The purpose of the MiCPS is to increase the fun of leagues and promote Disc Golf. How is MiCPS doing this? By connecting more players to what is going on in Disc Golf league throughout Michigan. By connecting all the players, we all get to see what leagues are playing at what courses, the different formats and what extra stuff is going on that may be of interest to different players. The big key is the connection of players – who played what league, how did they do, who hit an Ace, who is at your current level ands who are you about to pass up in points on your way to becoming the Michigan Disc Golf League Champion for Summer 2010. It also will provide a great excuse to get together with new and old friends in October for a hum-digger of a final event. A little like a Tournament or League and a little like a Players Reunion and a lot of fun to wrap up the summer and talk about the Winter season and what we can do next year to continue to improve Michigan Disc Golf Leagues.

Ok so how does the point thing work? Well when a participating MiCPS league posts the round data all players with DGS profiles is processed automatically into the MiCPS league. For any given week (Sunday – Saturday) your highest two point rounds are accumulated and the others are shown but listed as “dropped”. The best two rounds of the week is to balance out the scoring and encourage the widest player base, those who can play every day and those who are lucky to make it out once a week or less. For the points calculation per round you get two points for participation - successfully finishing a round – no DNF, score card turned in, and one point for every player you score better than. And if there is no tie for first place, then there is an Out Right Winner and they get two extra points. What other points are there - Hit an Ace during the league round and besides the high fives and some big bucks in your pocket and lowering your stroke count, you get 25 MiCPS points (regardless if this round is “Dropped” for that week).

Now to encourage players to visit other leagues and provide point accrual options we have the Highlighted League of the Week (HLW) each week starting Friday, May 7, 2010. If you can make it out to Friday Night Discin at Stony 2010, Stony Creek Metropark you’ll receive “Double points!” The normal points earned for the HLW will be automatically doubled – A literal points bonanza each week someplace in the state. So if you need a “Points Boast” make sure you grab a friend and head out to the HLW. I suspect that there will be a few car pools doing the MI Disc Golf league road trip’n thing all summer – what a great excuse to get out and see all these great courses with players who know the courses, meet some new or old friends and enjoy the summer. You can check the MiCPS Schedule to see which leagues on what dates are the HLW. Save the dates and get the points – check the talk section and the your News section to see who is going and be green and save some gas while having fun with friends.

To be eligible to play in the final event you must have played at least one participating MiCPS league round and be listed on the MiCPS leader board.

Make sure you save the date and plan to be there for the crowning of the first ever Michigan Disc Golf League Champion and be a part of this Michigan Disc Golf History.

Yes the MI Point Series is under way. Started Sunday as of this post there are 7 league that have already posted – 2 Sunday, 2 Monday and 3 from Tuesday. With those 7 league the unique player list is at 95 with 10 more leagues yet to post their first rounds and the numbers will just grow and grow over the summer as both more league join in and more players play leagues.

A few of the league start their session Mid April so you’ll see those on the leader board then – check league pages for actual times as the daylight changes and some league move from course to course like 24 Chains which is a great way to learn a new course and when they crash another league – watch out – more players, more $$, more fun.

Remember the key of the point series is to increase the fun; get out and play new courses, leagues with different formats, rules, side games and meet new players.

The 2010 Summer Point Series will take your best two rounds during a week (Sunday – Saturday) and add the points into the point series leader board. Note this is automatic and dynamic so the data will update during the week as each league posts their league data and if any changes are made the leader board will updated automatically.

The limitation of best two rounds is to try an achieve a balance between those who can play many rounds and those who can not – get as many people out playing as possible and having as much fun as possible in a fair and consistent environment that promotes the sport.

The Point Series points are calculated as follows:

Points = Participation + Earned + Outright Winner

Participation: Finish a round and turn in a score card, 2 points
Earned: 1 point per player you beat
Outright Winner – no tie for first place, 1st place gets an extra 2 points

ACE earn you 25 points

DNF (Did Not Finish) – score entered for round 999 (has no affect on calculated stats) – no points awarded but player(s) are counted in Earned Points calculation above. No score card turned in, automatic DNF.

To be able to automate individual league point transfer into the MICoPS players must be registered players of DiscGolfScene.com (have a profile), otherwise automation is very difficult and error prone. If players do not have a profile then they will not show up in the point series leader board.

We will also have a Pre-round CTP this week during registration – show up early and make your practice throws payoff. Ypsi Dubs and OG (Original Gravity in Milan ) are sponsoring this. A commemorative etched OG Growler and pint glass, along with 4 bottles of some Great Michigan brewed beer from OG. Two throws for a Buck and the proceeds will be split between, The Michigan Cooperative Point Series Final Event & Night Moose Doubles at Willow

With the potential for more players this week, vying for those Double Points, you should anticipate slightly longer play time. Payout will be available from Dave O'Shea who has a payout sheet. He can generally tell you what they will be. It is a 100% payout - all $6 goes into paying out the top 34% of golfers (one spot over 1/3)


If you have not been to the park before here are local directions:

US-23 S to exit 9, left on Summerfield Rd 1.8 miles, left on Rauch rd 4.6 miles, right at Lewis Ave 1 mile, 1st left onto W Samaria Rd 1 mile, right at Crabb rd 1.5 miles, left at W Vienna Rd 0.2 miles, left .0.1 miles.

Exit I-75 at Alexis Rd. (exit 210), 2.3 miles west to a right on Telegraph (US 24), 1.1 mile to a left on Crabb Rd., 3.4 miles to a right on Vienna Rd. Park is 0.25 mile on left. Make 1st left into parking lot. 1st tee beyond back of lot.

There is no Pay to Play at this park just the weekly league fees mentioned above.
