Relatively flat course in a desert environment. Straight sandy/gravel fairways with an assortment of desert bushes, rocks and trees. Has decent hole signage and next tee signs but some of the baskets are difficult to see from the concrete pads. Overall a well maintained course with water and restrooms on the way to the first hole. No real hazards except pedestrians on the walking trail along the first couple holes. Any wind can be a factor on this course.

The shorter of the two courses at Red and much better and less frustrating for beginners. While shorter still plenty of challenging holes not easy to score on. This course is the antithesis to rolling green fairways except for the months of March and April when a good portion of the course gets a sporadic carpet of green desert grass. Once again the placement of the baskets maximize the challenge thanks to mature desert Ironwoods, Palo Verde and other desert trees. After a rain when other courses are wet this is dry thanks to the Sandy soil.

Red Mountain South Course is my favorite place to throw. It has a fun layout zigzagging through the desert shrubbery with a range of hole lengths. There are several Ace opportunities throughout the course making it even more exciting. The small trees and shrubs also make the course nice and quiet. It is easy to go out for a quick, quiet round after work without the crowds of greener courses in the valley.

The course offers a great variety of shots. There is a bit of luck to your round as sometimes you kick to the edge of the Mesquite trees and sometimes you are in complete jail. The land the course is ... show more ›

The course offers a great variety of shots. There is a bit of luck to your round as sometimes you kick to the edge of the Mesquite trees and sometimes you are in complete jail. The land the course is on is not that great bot overall, it is a fun golf course where you can go really low or end up over par.

Probably one of the best truly natural desert courses anywhere. Unlike most desert courses Red has many well utilized native desert trees and fauna to keep things interesting and challenging. Keep it inbounds or you will find out just how prickly desert trees and shrubs can be. If your lucky enough to play this after a rare severe desert downpour you may get to experience the naturally occurring waterfall in front of the tee pad on 8 with a stream that runs all the way back through the course past 1. Plenty of holes long enough to challenge long arms especially since you cannot just bomb most of them straight. The city of Mesa even drops ever changing piles of clean fill on 700’+ hole 2 to keeps things fresh. You may want a spotter on hole 7 or may not ever find your disc again if you try to go all the way. While not for beginners This is a don’t miss if you play in AZ, unless your too soft for the desert!

Despite my memories of the South course being just okay, the North course was very impressive! I actually love the high degree of difficulty (mainly due to the distance on some holes being in the 500-700 ft. range) and the feeling of being literally IN the desert throughout the front nine. The back nine holes are probably more enjoyable (the famous #11 "Island Hole" is so much fun) as they are well groomed with green grass and a more favorable situation as far as lies go. The variety and diversity of this course is quite impressive to be sure. The only con I can really think of is that your discs might take a real beating due to the rocks/streets/thorny plant life strewn throughout the course. This is a minor gripe but I felt it was worth mentioning. Don't use your older vintage discs here if you value them! That's all I will say. Fantastic course though! Highly recommended! :)

You've read this before.....It's a desert course. You definitely get punished for errant shots. It was my first time playing here and finding the next tee box took extra time on several of the holes. It would be nice if they had a sign or arrow pointing towards the next tee box. It also forces you to use a variety of shots which I really liked.
