SUMMARY:
Object golf. Ideal for beginners. Family friendly. Multi-Use.
Note: I am not a >900 rated player. I golf to have fun and to enjoy being outside. My reviews reflect only those elements that challenge, frustrate, and/or excite me. YMMV. Object golf. Ideal for beginners. Family friendly. Multi-Use.
Note: I am not a >900 rated player. I golf to have fun and to enjoy being outside. My reviews reflect only those elements that challenge, frustrate, and/or excite me. YMMV. Also, it is not fair to rate this course on a Basket scale. It is NOT a basket disc golf course. It is an object course and, in this particular case, those objects are 3-4' brown poles with white tops.
DETAILS:
The Good:
Reasonable Distance:
There is some distance here. Not a lot, but some. Most shots are open field with very few trees and high ceilings where trees do exists.
Fair Variety:
There is fair shot variety. It is however only implied variety. Anyone could laser their way from tee to pole here, but having hyzer and anhyzer upshot skills will grant multiple ace opportunities.
Playground/High Visibility:
There is a pretty cool multi-level playground right in the middle of the park. It is visible from just about every corner. I have taken my kids here to play while I work on my upshots from a couple of adjacent holes.Sometimes they throw with me, but it is always good to have an out for the young-ins.
Hole Diagrams:
The tee posts have etched hole diagrams. While not special in and of themselves, my observation is that whoever designed and built the course put into it as much love as they could.
The Bad:
Little 'D':
I do not believe than any single hole topped 250' which puts most into putter range. Good for practice with mid range discs (upshots) and fairway drivers (control and placement shots)
Square Peg, Round Disc:
The poles are 4x4s. This means sharp corners and blunt sides. Round poles would have been a more considered choice and might have served to better distinguish tee from target. Bring a beater if you absolutely must keep official score or putt gently to avoid damage to discs.
Activity Crossover:
The earlier holes play across soccer fields. As these are generally used for little-league half of the course may be occupied at any given moment.
OVERALL IMPRESSION:
I gather that whoever was given permission to build a disc golf course here was provided practically zero budget. What you discover in playing it though, is that it was a labor of true love for the all-ages fun of the game, despite lack of modern equipment. For a object golf course, it has its charms.
SIDE NOTE:
If you have not found the great game of Object Golf yet, I strongly suggest you give it a look. In essence, you could make an object golf game anywhere, even downtown metro-centers, provided you could get away with it! Don't like a particular hole on a home course? Pick a tree, rock, or spot of grass and make things new again!
