The amount of work that has been put in over the past year has truly made this one of, if not the, best courses in the state. Drainage work to address muddy areas, wood chips spread where needed, revamped practice area and so much more. And with updated signage, new baskets, and a parking lot on the horizon? The volunteers do an excellent job working on this course as it is always maintained, mowed, etc. Love this course.

Nicest course I’ve ever played. It’s a 27 hole course with beautiful mazes of trees all throughout & has a lake running along the entire bottom side of the course. It was very confusing to navigate when I first played because there are so many different tees but it wasn’t difficult the 2nd time I played and understood the layout. Hole2 is over water & the next hole is on top of a platform on the island over water. This course can be easy or extremely difficult depending on which tees you throw from & which holes you play. There is maintenance done to the course to clear brush & improvements but the only downfall is poison ivy & can be extremely muddy. Still A+

One island and one off of an elevated deck (unique). There are a ton of layouts and if you’re a new visitor it is confusing. Some unlevel teepads. Grass gets high at times, probably due to the mud in areas though.

Updated x3 review, an honest one at that: The first two times I played, or at least tried to play, the course gave me horrible experiences. First time, I was so confused on pads and baskets, it got frustrating and we left. I find the course difficult to play without udisc, part of that being because there are TWENTY FIVE LAYOUTS. Second time I tried to play, the course was literally in one of the worst conditions I have seen a course in. Granted it was early in the season, but I am talking late April, not early March. It seemed as if the course hadn't even began to be maintained for the upcoming season.

For starters, admins need to delete most of these layouts, 25 is very excessive. As a first time player, how in the world are you supposed to know what layout you should be playing for the "Punderson experience" that people rave about!?

Second, I feel as if the tee pads themselves could be better marked. Hear me out! The tee pads are large, which I can appreciate, but you have to stand over them and read a stamp or use udisc to identify. Personally, I feel something simple like a color painted line on the back of the pad would do wonders. Wouldn't have to rely on udisc, signs on trees or stamps in the concrete to quickly identify a "blue" pad. This is my opinion, with a suggestion on how to assist players who are unfamiliar with the course.

Third suggestion, something to make the baskets a little more visible. Again, these are suggestions for players unfamiliar with the course. A lot of courses have hi-vis flags on top, or tape on the poles for baskets without colorful bands. The baskets themselves are fine, just wish they were easier to spot. The course is heavily wooded, baskets are hard to spot. Yesterday I had countless times where I couldn't see the basket and had to walk up to try and find it.

This is my feedback of the course. My complaints are and have been mostly with simple things. I don't have too many complaints with the play of the course itself. It is difficult, yes, but I don't feel as if that necessarily makes a course good or bad. Am I very critical of the course? Absolutely. But after all, it is the top rated course in Ohio. And when you're at the top, you get criticism. Personally, I wouldn't even put this course in my top 5 for the state. It is not bad, but its not great either. If Paul McBeth said, "Tyler, show the best that Ohio has to offer." This course would not make the cut. Again, my opinion in which I am certainly entitled to.

If my suggestion were put into place, and the course was mowed, I can see myself giving it a B- at best. But for now, it can have a nice C. Maybe it will get cleaned up a bit more before the upcoming tournament and I will be able to experience the course at its best. Honestly, I would love that for everyone.

I think they did a good job with putting signage up so you don't get too lost and the bricks in each tee pad showing which pad it was and distance to basket was a nice addition.

At least 3 holes I was still behind the red tee after 2 throws. I Love it! Did not play white tees. The Oderus Open was a well run fun tournament at a great course. #2 Island basket is epic.

The tee shot from a raised deck on hole 3 was also on the island. Most holes had narrow fairways making for difficult birdies. A variety of shots is required, and no poke and hopes. This course provides a variety of courses within this facility, which gives you versatility if you're so lucky to live near by.

My wife and I are from Ohio and we recently visited Punderson State Park and we were excited to discover there was a frolf course there as well. Little did we know that it was going to be this impressive! The course is obviously well maintained and the holes are very well designed through the woods and along the water, with a challenging goal set on a small island in the middle of the lake accessible by a walking bridge after you toss your disc (and hopefully avoid the water). The cement slabs on the tee's were in great condition with good maps and postings throughout along with 3 tee's for each level of frisbee golfer. We have played on many courses throughout Ohio and also across the country and this was one of the best!!

Active local club offering tournaments and leagues year round. Continuous improvement of the course. Keeping fallen trees and brush cleared, adding benches to tee areas, etc.

Gorgeous views, many elevation changes. It really is a course that is suitable for any disc golfer. The only thing it doesn't provide is the open park disc golf of hyzer bombs, however I consider that a plus.

From what I can see, the disc golf scene at Punderson State Park is already great, and will just keep getting better in the future. This course is not resting on it laurels.

This is my home course, and I'm part of the local group now that helps maintain the course. However, after playing many more courses, I can honestly say I have not played a better course, so I'm bumping this to A+.

Great course! It's all woods, but the fairways aren't as closterphobic as I expected (still commands precision.) Great hole layouts with a variety of shots needed. Good use of terrain with creeks, hills and even a true island hole (if you wish to play it)! The fairways are well groomed, some are grass and others dirt depending on deep in the woods you are but all were free of logs and sticks. All holes have blue, white and red concrete tee pads and baskets are well cared for. Be aware, the baskets with red tape are for the red tees, other colors play deeper. Only issue I had was finding the baskets, I wish they were yellow so I can see them. This course is a must play, it's a toss up between Mt. Airy in Cincinnati and Punderson as my all time favorite played course.

First and foremost the Friends of Punderson Disc Golf folks are some of the best people you'll meet and they have done an amazing job on creating and maintaining a top tier course. Layout is 18 epic holes with great elevation throughout a beautiful wooded area near the lake. While water isn't too much of a factor it adds to the gorgeous scenery this course provides. All 18 holes are wonderful, and not one would I consider anything less than great....that is to say there isn't a dud or filler hole on this course. From the Blue Tees it is both a lengthy and extremely technical challenge. Fairways are fair, but land outside the intended path and you will be scrambling. Plenty of curves and undulation, you will need every shot in your arsenal. Solid scores are earned here, and the course will test your mental and physical toughness. Punderson is a phenomenal course and deserves to be considered as one of the best in oHIo!

Just today some local guys who maintain the park were installing a lost & found disc box! The local tribe here seem like really good people and the course is beautifully kept. This course a taught me accuracy and control. You can have all the power to launch a disc but if you don't have those two things this course will eat you alive. Punderson Discgolf Course offers plenty of elevation changes with wide fairways winding through the woods, there is the Lake that comes into play and the scenery is beautiful!! Play this course and it may demand every shot in your bag, and after playing here you will be a better Discgolfer! Punderson is a course of the future, par 5's, par 4's, par 3's. This is a destination course! Punderson Lake State Park offers primitive camping, cabin rentals and a beautiful lodge w a swimming pool!!! Stay the weekend because you will want to the play the course again and again!!! If you love Maple Hill Farm, you'll love Punderson! I love this Disc Golf Course more each time I play it!

Possibly the best course I have ever played. Each hole is very unique and challenging in its own way. I can say I have played many great courses and every course has a few boring holes, I can't say that about a single hole at Punderson. Hands down the best course in North East Ohio. The local club at this course is full of great people who continuously strive to keep this course steadily improving. For players, the course offers a very wide variety of tee options with three tees per hole, as well as some holes having short and long pin placements. The holes are all tightly wooded, yet have clearly defined fairways. This course will reward players that carefully line their shots up, hit their lines and keep their disc in the fairways, if not you'll have tough outs from the woods or possibly wet feet from the lake. Over all great place to go play with a great local club, and is a must play!!!!!!

HUGE difference in how the course plays from red to blue tees. The scenery really makes you appreciate Ohio beauty. My only complaint is the lack of drainage. Im descent at dg and am used to driver-putter holes. going to punderson at first I was skeptical that it would be as nice as all the locals said it was. Long to long is my favorite layout just for the fact that I get to use my drivers for two shots instead of using my mid range off the tee as I do on most courses. Just a boatload of fun. The pricks that bash this course for being too hard should grow some cajones and get out to play this course more often. I tremendously improved my game here just from one visit. Definite must play

In terms of reasonable layout and design of the holes is lacking (C at best). Great group of locals and a lot of work has been done. After last round back in July of 2012, still needed more work. To clear a bunch of trees and then leave one standing in the middle of the intended fairway or close to tee pads is poor design. Good, intended shots should not be punished. Course has potential. Just because a course is long (from the blues) and challenging doe not necessarily make for an outstanding course.

even though course in under construction, it is truly a beauty. with red, white, and blue tee pads , along with multiple pin positions , descent sized fairways that allow you to put a lil mustard on ur throw and at same time punishing you if you go too crazy with it. elevation changes and water hazards add dificulty to any level of player. definatley worth a drive to play here, and you can count on a round lasting about 3 houres if you dont have too big of group.once course is finished ill give it an A+

This is the course that I judge all others, for comparison ! I may be a tad bit biased , being one of the volunteers that helps to maintain this course , but in reality this course is awesome !! 3 sets of huge tee pads ; Red pads are 12' long , White pads are 14' and the Blue pads are 16' in length ! All tee pads are 6' , at the rear , and are 4' wide at the front . Very Nice !! Another benefit of the tee pads is a somewhat rough surface , that helps with the seasonal conditions. Probably the best pads in Ohio !!

There's 3 holes as of now , more to come, with more than 1 basket. ( #9 , #12 & #15 ) have a long location .

This course is a wonderful design that resembles a labyrinth ; It might be hard to follow if you're a new player , but once you've played it , it's easy to navigate . There is signage on all holes , but not on every pad .The layout that you choose to play also determines the amount of time it takes to play this course. It's a huge course that locals like to refer as a '3 hour tour' . Often, you'll feel like your'e the only group playing, because it's so big !

As far as the holes go ; Every one of the 18 has unique challenges ! Elevation , Doglegs right & left ,Water hazards ( Pine Lake ) , OB lines and some serious off the fairway clutter , require accurate shots !! If you keep your disc on the fairways , you'll score well. If you don't , things get interesting !
Every shot that you have in your bag is needed to have a good score here, and if you don't have many to choose from, you'll soon learn to throw new shots. That's what really makes this course stand out from some of the others .

There are many signature holes here , but in my opinion , #15 from the blue pad to long basket , 911' , is the ultimate DG hole in the area !! A downhill , dogleg anhyzer
with Pine Lake threatening to take your disc !!

This could eventually be a championship caliber course if there was more state park upgrades such as ; Pavilion , restrooms , bigger parking lot , stump grinding and overall course maintenance . As of now , most things are being done and financed by volunteers .

7-25-17 Update

Once again the Friends of Punderson have outdone themselves by adding some new baskets and tee's for a 27 hole layout! There are now so many different combinations to play that it might be the only complaint. Which layout to play? You can still play 18 holes from any of the 3 permanent tees. Or you can play 27 holes with an option of which tee to use on several holes.

Then there is the Island Hole! It can be a long basket for traditional Hole 2 in 18 hole layout or it is a nice island shot from a new tee by the bridge. Of course they weren't done and built a tower to throw back over the water to a new basket. The way it is positioned, it is about 375 over water to the basket 45 feet from shore. If you don't have a big arm, the shortest distance over water is around 225, but takes you further from basket. Fantastic hole!!

New T signs plus benches at most Tee's and directional arrows when needed. This course is now Amazing and is now a solid A+

If you love Disc Golf. You must play this course!!




7/19/15 Update...Update...Update...

I have been meaning to update this review for a while now. How long? Well lets just say that large concrete tees have been in place for over 2 years now for Red, White and Blue Tees. The work to that the Friends of Punderson have done to improve this course has not gone unnoticed. The fairways are now quite defined with careful trimming for better play. Stumps have been ground and some drainage issues worked on. Punderson is quickly becoming a destination type Disc Golf Course. Beautiful scenery, eagle sightings, and a world class Disc Golf Course!

I am fortunate to play courses all over Ohio, Indiana and Michigan and I have yet to play a course as challenging, fun and beautiful!

This course will be an A+ destination course when they are through with it., but right now it is a B+. All 18 holes with 3 tees for most are in but many of the tees are still gravel or dirt providing uneven footing. But great news, I was there today and ran into Tom Mote and he told me that they just got granted enough funds to hopefully complete the concrete tees by the end of summer. That would be great! Some additional clearing is also still needed but when it is done, it will be a premier course.

Course is secluded from the rest of the park, which is a big plus. Quiet, serene surroundings make for a relaxing round. Update - Course is coming along very well. The blue tees make this a pro level course. Red tees are now all concrete. Perfect piece of land for a disc golf course.

The course volunteers do a great job here with the tee pads and pin positions!!! I would have rated this course higher, but Punderson is SUCH a mud pit. No point in playing here after a good rain, so muddy its hard to keep footing for a decent throw.

I am new to disc golf, so some of you may not take my review seriously, but it is because this is such a beautiful, scenic, course that I wanted to get involved playing disc golf. The course, now with 18 holes offers some challenges and really makes you think about what you are doing. Just played with some guys who really knew their stuff and it was amazing to see some shots which I thought were impossible. During wet weather it is muddy and messy, just wear some water/mud proof boots and you are good to go. I would encourage anyone who likes a challenge or rated it a while back to check it out this summer and play all 18.

I can't say how much this course has changed since my last review!!! This course is an awsome one to definitely improve your technical skills as you can use all types of throws in a round here. The fairways have been opened up quite a bit, but you sill need to keep your shots tight. This course is easily on its way to being one of the best around! The guys and gal definitely set the bar in regards to holding tournaments and I have always tried to have the most fun!!! A larger parking lot and restrooms would make this a perfect vote from me. Easily the best (and most challenging) course in the NEO. 18 beautiful holes, with 3 huge concrete tees per hole, on what is the one of the best pieces of land disc golf has ever encountered. A few of the holes (9, 12, and 15) have dual pins, with hole 15 being the highlight, as the long pin is now a whopping 911 feet from blue tee to basket. This course has it all...elevation, tight fairways, water, OB galore, and some insane technical holes that are truly feast or famine, especially from the White and Blue tees. This course will test all aspects of your game, but the control and the technical game will be what rewards you, as the rough can be unforgiving. There aren't many holes where you can grip and rip, but the ones that do still have the perfect element of distance and technical. The course is constantly being improved, as the local club may be one of the best and most dedicated in the world. They take a lot of pride in their course, and it shows. Tournaments, leagues, and casual play are always a blast at Punderson!! If you haven't made the trip out here yet, do it. You won't be disappointed.

Pros
- Portable bathroom at the parking area year round
- The entrance is marked by a Disc Golf Course sign and there is very nice Kiosk
- The map is high quality and accurate but generally not needed because the paths are so well defined
- Practice basket located by Hole #1
- Three Tees per hole!
- 11 of the Tees are concrete and very large (Gargantuan)! Just fantastic work! All other tees are natural or stone and are kept in good working condition.
- Very nice Tee Signs, one per hole
- There are some signs pointing to the next Tee, but as I said, the paths are so well defined that you really don’t need the help.
- The baskets are in great shape and are well labeled
- Even though Hole #1 starts a few hundred feet from the parking area, the entire course flows extremely well and Hole #9 ends at Hole #1.
- You will need a mix of shots to play this course. By the time I had finished I really used every disc in my bag.
- Scenery and Landscape; Gorgeous-Beautiful-Stupendous-Stunning-Amazing. Yeah, all that describes this heavily wooded course. Once inside you feel like you are deep into a Montana wilderness. I spent half my round just looking out into the spectacular forest.
- Upkeep. How do I put this? The upkeep is so good that it literally looks like they sweep the paths! The volunteer work for this course must be off the charts. The paths are marked by sticks and logs to either side and they are well mulched or swept completely clean. All fairways are trimmed and clear.
- The lake not only adds beauty to this course but also adds to the course as a tough obstacle to get around. A great addition and an intelligent use of space.
- You may have very light traffic from some fisherman down along the lake maybe hanging out by Hole #2 but other than that you will only have light traffic from disc golfers
- The overall distance of this course is perfect for rec players and above but I would say that a beginner may be overcome by the technical skills required. There are 3 holes over 400’ that are in some tight wooded fairways that twist and turn a bit and that roll up and down steep hills. The elevation is awesome and truly adds to the game play and to my exercise routine. There are some beautiful rolling hills and ravines that you will throw across as well.
- The course is very clean and there are plenty of benches scattered everywhere

Cons
- Long walk from the parking area to reach the practice basket and Hole #1.
- Hole #4 crosses nearly over top of Hole #7’s Blue Tee near the picnic table. Be aware of your surroundings when teeing off here.
- Small parking area. I suspect this would be a huge problem for tournaments.

Other Thoughts
- Holy smokes! What a fantastic course and just an honor to be able to get over there and play. Really can’t say enough about how much I appreciate all the hard work that went into this course.
- The course is highly challenging. Very long and technical fairways will test you to your max.
- The most challenging hole for me is Hole #1. You have a simple right turn which is also down hill and a little tight, but this hole just tears me up. You do have the option of playing it safe and but the temptation of landing the right turning drive for distance down the hill is simply too tempting (I’ve not once made the shot correctly).
- My favorite hole is Hole #6. Very beautiful and picturesque. This hole tees off from the blue over small rolling hills on a downward slant over a small ravine 320’ to the pin which is somewhat hidden on the left. Hole #3 is my runner-up for my favorite hole. Plays with the lake along the right and heavy woods to the left and a lot of obstacles in between. The safest root just might also be the most dangerous, a high hyzer bomb RHBH out over the water with fingers crossed that you make it back in through the trees to land safely on the fairway. Then you shoot toward a basket that is behind a barrier of trees.
- I do not know much about the rest of the park but it seems monstrous and has cabins to rent, ball golf, playgrounds, pools, skiing trails and beaches. A bit of research and I’m sure you’ll find this to be a vacation respite.
- As of 08/28/2011, there was more clearing being done and a sign is up for holes labeled A, B & C. I could see a basket already in place and boards set up to pour another one of those fantastically HUGE concrete Tees.
- There are only 9 holes but it is expanding. Even if it wasn’t expanding I would still tell you that this course IS a destination course. You need to get here and see this awesome course winding through this beautiful forest. Make the time, try it out, it’s worth the trip.
