This course will always hold a special place in my heart. I was the lucky winner of DGA 's 2008 worlds basket raffle. The picnic course provided the ideal remote beautiful setting for 18 sunburst orange Mach III baskets. Thanks to the hard work of Local 101 and Washtenaw parks and recreation my dream was realized of a new course close to home for all to enjoy. Several lakeside pin placements provide risk v reward shots as well as spectacular photo ops. the seasonality of the course usually ...

A world class course. The only reservation I have is the safety issue. In weather which is unseasonably good picnicers come out who know nothing about disc golf and become accidents waiting to happen (especially the kiddy playgrounds which are in or adjacent to the fairways). Ok, maybe the tee pads could be better but you really don't expect cement tee pads for a temp course.
Depending on how OB lines are set the course can be modified substantially because there are lots of walking paths ...

Going into my top 5 in Michigan. Finally got cement pads. Probably the best course in the Ann Arbor area.

Beautiful back nine. Two sets of concrete tee pads make this course phenomenal.
The course continues to be broken in, mitigating the effects of the wild brush outside of the fairway. Must play if you're in the Dexter area.

A very well thought out design. Challenging in all aspects of the game. Just make sure you stretch the arm between the car and hole #1 which is a very welcoming 500 footer through an alley of hardwoods and if you're a righty you had better bring your anhyzer or sidearm game.........Nice!
I would rate it higher but a lot of the holes have the same feel...a high 300 ft to high 400 ft hole with a slow left to right fade.

The new X1-X7 long tees make for terribly designed holes. The new holes in the field are good. The double mando hole is truly awful/gimmicky.
+4 votes Noah Moorehouse › Red Hawk East › June 12, 2022
Not sure what the thought process was behind the changes on x1-x5 and x7. Seems like it was designed to be hard just for the sake of being hard. Very luck based for a lot of them and I think the scoring separation has basically been taken away on a few—everyone will just par. Open holes are solid. X13 is ridiculous. I’m happy they’re trying to keep improving the course but some outside input might’ve been helpful.

Nicely designed seasonal course.
Downsides are that the baskets are only in the ground from October through March, and several holes have natural teepads.

Also a world class course with superb design and challenges. Rumor is that cement tee pads are coming soon which will fix the biggest flaw of the course.
The course is still new enough that it is underplayed most times: a big bonus.

This course is now complete with the addition of cement tees. Longs & Mids are both a lot of fun to play, a good mix of open and woods holes. It has a wide variety of shots, if anything, I would ask for a couple more tunnel-type shots for a complete balance. I did not play the short tees yet but they look very technical, I'm looking forward to playing them. A great addition to SE MI golf where we are so fortunate to have so many fine courses.

In my opinion, the best course in the area. Long distance mixed with tight short/long holes through woods, and longer open holes, challenging pin placements, brand new tee signs and pads. If you have never played..get out there and check it out. Park fees when in effect are quite expensive due to being a county park!

I haven't played Indy in a year and half, since the additions were finalized into 2 separate courses. At the time, it was only the X-holes. I feel that some of the additions and changes made were unfortunately for the worse. I normally don't review courses, but I've made enough comments on social media to justify doing it now. Some of the existing long pads that were extended into the current Black tees made already good holes excessively difficult for no reason, specifically holes 4 and 9 in my ...

I'm giving the picnic course and A- under the following assumptions:
-You know where you are going, you have played the course before.
-The footing on the natural teepads is OK (ie. it's not raining or muddy or icy or snowy).
-You are playing the course when the baskets are in the ground.
If these conditions are met I can't think of any other place I would rather be discin. Unfortunately to meet these conditions you have a very small time window - I'm talking a few weeks in October and ...

The Picnic course is one of the best in Southeast Michigan. The course itself is fairly wide open with some trees coming into play on holes 2, 4, 5, 7, and 18. The real challenge of this course, and what makes it great, is the setting and how it plays in with the course. There is OB on nearly every hole. Be it roads, pavilions, or water, the Ob on this course is challenging. Many holes offer chances at birdies but only shot that have superb placement will net you said birdies. The true signature ...

Great Location Dual Concrete tee pads on every hole and option red tees for beginners, from the Blacks its 6606ft total a big arms dream, White tees a cool 5055ft for those of us who are still mortals. mostly open rolling terrain with elevation changes great use of trees where available. $8.00 non-resident park entry fee is the only reason its not an A+

Just played LOCO X7 and absolutely loved this course. We played the 20 hole format with A - F in play (brand new with crushed rock tee pads), and it played like a champion course. The highlight to me were the DGA Mach III baskets with the orange powder coating (won at Worlds by Peter Kunoff). But the course was also amazing with lots of wooded holes with trees everywhere, as well as open holes. We saw plenty of wildlife, and it looked like water would come into play more at different times ...

I’m really sad to see what has been done to Indy. I used to really like this place but now it has some of the worst holes I have ever had the misfortune of playing. It looks as if someone with little experience in course design is responsible for the addition of the long pads. This used to be a tournament destination for me and I will never play another one here. Very sad.

Challenging course with 3 sets of pads, the short pad is natural. The mids/whites have a variety of holes. A few are very difficult with tricky lines, especially 6-9. Water hazards on a few holes, nice elevation changes, good tee signs and next tee directions, plenty of picnic tables.

First off, original hole 16 (new hole 1) was the best tee shot on the entire course. Whoever decided to turn it into a 400’ straight shot just for the sake of pushing back original 15’s basket should be publicly shamed. This change is a tragedy.
The new basket location for original hole 5 that makes it an 800’ par 4 is easily the best decision made with the redesign. Amazing hole. Well done.

Now that the course is complete with concrete teepads I think it stacks up favorably to any other course in the state, which puts it in the running with any other course in the country. I'm a little biased here but my 2 negatives about the course could be addressed by changing where the course starts. What a great course. 2 cement teepads on most holes. Nice dga and chainstar baskets. Nice mix of straight, left to right, and left to right holes. Some with water hazards. Lots of elevation changes from mild to significant. Getting a 2 or a 4 on most holes are a real possibility from the shorts with safe and risk reward shots. Awesome place! Would have been an A+ but is pricey if you're from out of town to get into park.

Not sure how it plays once all the rough is grown in during the summer, but playing it twice in late April was incredible. So well cared for, great diversity in shot types, and elevation change. I can't remember the last time I enjoyed playing a course this much, almost all the holes were fair but often demanding, great people on the course, and 36 holes, well marked, easy to navigate, everything I want in a disc golf course given the geography of the area. I'd easily drive up again from Ohio for a day of disc golf here.

One of my favorite courses. Always very well maintained and rarely super crowded. Doesn't seem to be as many litterbugs here as other courses but that could also be the park workers doing a good job. One of the toughest courses to play in this area from the back tees, a pro's course. The first hole is very challenging, very narrow fairway with trees all round. An excellent variety of holes that will challenge your best game. If you play from the back tees in summer go with a partner or a spotter. Indy Lake added 6 new holes in 2014, which makes the course even better. The course is getting grown in a bit now, could use some trimming, but if you are looking for a challenging course with a wide variety of holes, Indy Lake is perfect.

Really like the change on hole 3 to push the basket back. I don’t mind the changes on 7 or 18. 15 needs to be fixed—throwing into a wall of trees that’s also OB is pretty silly. No one in sanctioned play will ever be incentivized to go for that shot. Better to try to throw sideways to the short tee pad.
+0 votes Jeff Dunn CTDG › Red Hawk West › May 5, 2021
There are a couple of baskets that were pushed back and I like those changes. Hole 7 is a great hole now and 18 (East)is much safer and pushed back straighter and longer away from 18 west. This course has a few ace runs and a lot of picture pretty holes. This course is shorter and way more beginner friendly. I love this course and think it’s a great transition from the other 18. From the white pads, it’s much more amateur friendly than East. If you don’t wanna get pissed off, play West instead.

Well rounded course with some tight wooded holes. Well maintained, teepads, signs, benches. Great course to test all your throws.

Great course, well maintained, and highly technical. Course offers a lot of challenges, and is definitely not a beginner course by any means, but is still a ton of fun to get out and throw. Lots of interesting elevation changes, and unique hole layouts to play. Easily a top 5 in MI

Awesome extra holes, all this place needs is concrete tee pads throughout and it's and A+ all day.

Pretty good course. Not as well groomed or as challenging as the rest of the Red Hawk course. There is a TON of poison ivy in the woods just off of the fairway. So be careful and stay on the fairways

I had fun playing but a lot of the grass is really high so it is VERY hard to find your disc. There were a lot of bugs and the path was nice but outside of it was messy. And the construction closed some of the holes.

Not sure why there are so many negative reviews because these courses are fantastic.
There are 3 tee placements on all holes making these courses fun and challenging for all levels of play.
There are a couple of raised baskets on East and West has a lot of the original holes with a couple new basket placements about 100' beyond their original placements. The layouts are easy to follow with new pathways and clear signage. All white and black teepads have signs that show the fairway, distance, and any elevation.
This park even shovels teepads in the winter.

for little bit of it i did play it was not to bad. the holes a long the water in the winter were pretty cool and watching someone walk on the ice to get a disc and not fall through was epic.

Course is overgrown and unmanaged. Baskets are absolute trash.
