Simply an incredible course. I've played 200+ courses across 5 countries and BlueGill stands firmly in the top handful. The property is gorgeous, with incredible elevation changes for Southern Michigan. The layout has all the variety you can ask for. Bomber holes and short, technical lines. Long technical holes. Water carries. Uphill, downhill. Elevated baskets and death putt greens. This is a course where I will use almost every shot in my arsenal and almost every disc in my bag. Incredible property. Incredible layout. Incredible course.

Outstanding course, challenging in several ways! Great for a scenic course as well. This course should be #1 in MI in my opinion. Joe (Owner) is very nice, me and a friend had thrown in to the water on a hole and he caught up to us a few holes later to return the ones we had just dunked. Very well maintained.

Wow! Got the opportunity to play to play this beautiful gem and can't Express how thankful I am. This is Michigan's best course and would be by the ratings if it were open to the public. Beautiful property, beautiful layout, and the baskets... prefect. Even the putting sanctuary is a masterpiece. Bucket list golfing. Hit the basket on hole 11 two inches low, that was a nice bonus. Don't miss a chance to play here. Thanks Joe for the opportunity and life lasting experience.

I had been traveling for work for the past 18 years,.. and I have made it a point to play this incredible and challenging game in just about every state in the nation.. there are stand outs for sure and Blue Gill is one of them for sure, a destination and local Jewel of a course. I am very happy to have settled in Grand Rapids and can only wish to play this course more often next season.... elevation, water, risky rewards, long shots and technical shorts,... Shooting even here does not feel too bad. bring your wallet!

Love BlueGill and Michigan disc golf. This course is one of the best in the Midwest. Joe Gill is a wonderful host, and you can see his labor of love on every hole. I played league night with a couple of locals, highly encourage a tour guide for navigation and spotter detail. Teepads are fresh and professionally done. Many holes (24 total) have long or short pads. The greens are some of the toughest conditions I have played on, (AKA death putts). Course is off the grid and on private property, must receive permission to play. Donations are encouraged. Reserve several hours to play, because the course is loaded with fellow huckers. If you are looking for an easy course, weak sisters need not apply. Respect the man, and respect the land! Can't wait to go back! Thanks Joe!!!!!

What an amazing experience it was to play this course with the creator, Joe Bluegill. The layout is everything you could ever want out out of a disc golf course. Tons of elevation, water, obs, and an overall great mixture of shots. The putting greens are exceptionally tough, which really forces you to play smart golf. There are a ton of birdie opportunities, but plenty of holes where you can easily give those strokes back. It is amazing what Joe was able to accomplish with this course and I am looking for any excuse to make a trip back out that way.

The BlueGill course is one of those perfect courses where you really would have to try and find something wrong with it, but it's almost impossible to do so. The course itself was in pristine condition when played for the Wednesday league. Nicely mowed fairways, excellent tee pads, hole markers with distances, and baskets that are in great condition. It has an excellent mix of every type of hole and shot you can imagine; long open bombers, tight tunnel shots, shots over waters, hyzer shots, anhyzers, some elevation change here and there, shots through the woods, and shots in open fields. I wish every course would strive to be as good as BlueGill.

Absolutely sick!!! The toughest course i have ever played anywhere, most unique, beautiful scenery, very tight lines, uses every bit of skill in the game on a single course. Large hills can make for very tough putting, and a stretch of water holes that will keep you on your game. No worries of ever losing a disc everything is always returned (thanks mr. gill). A must play for any competing disc golfer and advanced open players will be in love. Just love this unique place, the tee signs with the bluegill fish are an awesome touch! Only course i have ever played with natural gas wells pumping, a turkey nest, and a massive stairway too the water holes from the back of the house. Absolutely in love with this course must play again.

Great course! Lots of hills, some water, and great hole diversity make this a gem of a course! The basket placement is near perfect, with alot of risk-reward shots.You will have to use every shot in your bag and hit alleys with pinpoint accuracy to score well here. Last time I visited Joe had 6 tees cemented in and I was told 8 more at least were going in before summers end. If you are lucky enough to play here, be sure to thank Joe for his wonderful upkeep and amazing course! Thanks Joe!

I'm not sure it's even possible to offer anything as perfect as Joe's course. It destroyed me, but was worth every extra last second of it. If you can play well here, there's absolutely no place else in Michigan that will give you troubles. BlueGill makes Flip City seem easy. If you ever get the chance to play it, I'd highly suggest you jump at that chance. I will definitely sign up for another tournament there just to play it.

If you make a mistake and get off the fairways on some holes good luck making par but other than that i loved the course and defeintly recommend it to any disc golfer to try to get out there and play it if you get permission.

The course has a great mix of technical holes, water holes, as well as long open holes testing all areas of a golfers game. There are a few signiture holes including hole 3 which is a short shot down a tunnel of pines, hole 9 which has you throw off of a cliff just to the inside of a pond, and many other memorable holes. If you get the chance to play this course, take it.

This 24 basket course with alternate pin locations, challenges every skill level and forces you to pull all your best shots out of your bag. BlueGills offers elevation change, hyzer/an hyzer, a few water hazards, plenty of birdie opportunities, and a couple Ace runs. New Concrete tee pads.

As Mark's review states - every mistake is punished...keep your cool or you'll be punished again and again...and once more for good measure. Bluegill has a lot of memorable holes that are not only awesome, but test your skill. Flip has some nice scenery but Bluegills is just as nice, especially when you hit the garden and water holes. Flip is a great course but comparing Bluegill to Flip is like comparing Cedar Point to Candyland. The pin placement is spectacular and almost nerve racking. One hole plays elevated on a tree trunk on the edge of a very steep monstrous hill and there are other instances of big drops near the pin. The open holes are hard deuces, the length of the holes keep them out of range for most people and even those with bigger arms - hills between you and the pin make them seem shorter than what they actually are.

My favorite hole is 15 - 400+ feet up 2 hills - and in order to get up the first hill you have to shoot through an 8-10 foot gap, it's insane. End up in the trees and it's almost impossible to advance your shot and land on the fairway.

Another favorite is 4 - 650+ feet with tight OB on the left and a tree line on the right. On your second shot towards the pin there's a lot of OB to look out for, adding even more difficulty to the hole. This is usually where a lot of crying happens.

Hole 10 - tee off through a gap of trees shooting over a pond and keeping it away from another pond by the pin - this hole looks and plays awesome.

I was afford the opportunity to play BlueGill on Labor Day after the long weekend in Ludington. After calling Joe and getting permission he told us he wouldn't be able to show us around and we may get lost. Once we arrived he drove up on his cart and showed us around anyway. Joe Gill is nothing short of an excellent host.

The only word I can use to describe this course is "phenomenal". Joe takes great care in maintaining his property, and what a plot of land it is. While Joe was showing us his property he warned us about the danger here with three words, "Don't go long." If its not water beyond the pin it is a steep ridge that begs for rolling putters. There is not a single bad hole on this course. BlueGill offers every type of hole imaginable. There are long open holes that balance out the tightly wooded "shorter" holes.

The small details are what really make this course for me though. Like Bill at Flip City, Joe has added the little touches that make a course great. The small metal fish that mark the tees aren't just informative, they add personality. Carvings in trees, oil wells, and hole names make this special.

I can think of no other private course that offers the challenge of BlueGill. It may not be as pretty as Flip City but what it lacks in sheer beauty it makes up in difficulty. The course is not hard for the sake of being hard, but it does require you to be accurate in throwing your lines and confident in your putts.

Thank you Joe for letting us share in the joy of BlueGill. I know I can safely speak for all disc golfers when I say you have truly made something special. FYI, Joe likes IPA's so be sure to bring him a lil gift if you get the chance to play out here. The donation box is right by the parking area as well.

Bluegill is a true labor of love and is one of the best courses in the country let alone the state. Bluegill has every type of shot/ hole you could possibly desire. Uphill and downhill bombs, shots over water, through rows of pines, big 600 and 700ft open bombs. OB ropes defining fairways. Bluegill is disc golf heaven. If you ever get a chance to play here make sure you respect the property and Joe, he has spent a lot of time and $ making the course what it is today.

It is a treat of a disc golf course if you do. Bluegill has excellent pin placement on 24 holes. Land has open, left, right, woods, water on 4 holes. Multiple holes would be signature holes on other courses. Very fun to play. Both birdie opportunities and some holes that you can easily get 4, 5, or 6 if you are off the fairway. Bluegill is one of the hidden gems of Michigan Disc Golf. Make sure to write you name and # on discs you throw on water holes. BLUEGILL ROCKS!

This course is a roller coaster. The greens rival Flip City for the toughest putting conditions in Michigan. You will throw every single shot in your bag off the tee. The same goes for saving par on your upshots. Even the holes that seem straight forward are lined with intimidating OB rope. All of this in one course puts Blue Gill in the top 5 in Michigan. The course designers are obviously seasoned golfers who knows what pros want.

One of the best courses in the state. One of the best courses in the world. Every skill and shot are challenged and every mistake punished. The recent addition of yellow rope Out-of-Bounds, (lots of yellow rope OB) makes the long driving holes much more intimidating. It takes design genius to understand how to make fair challenges for players of every level and on this course power is of no help without precision.

The topography is superb with big ponds and steep hills and many baskets placements in spots of maximum danger. Great thanks to Joe and Denise Gill for letting us share their beautiful private course.

After two rounds for the Fall Color classic, I've got to give this course a near perfect A. Great pin placement, variety of shots, water hazard, ob/bunker hazards. Shots are technical and challenging, forcing you to play your best. Rough is very rough, which is a bonus (private course gets less play, doesn't change from year to year). In my opinion Flip City is more forgiving, making it more fun for a wide range of skill levels. Makes the most of beautiful land, and host of the best tournament southwest Michigan has to offer. My only gripe is that its not open more often. But perhaps that is why this course is such a diamond in the rough.
