Aragon Park DGC is such a fun little 9 hole course that has some excellent features. Being from TN, I am used to playing courses with tons of woods and tons of elevation. I have played 4 different courses in Florida and I won’t say this is the most wooded course I’ve played in FL, but I am pretty sure this is the course with the most elevation that I have played in FL. The other courses I have played in FL have been mostly flat but I must say, I was very surprised by the amount of elevation on this short course. The course designer did an outstanding job with mixing in pretty much all elevation that it seemed the park offered. In addition to the excitement for elevation, I had so much fun playing this course. I have played quite a few courses, (over 100 courses as of me writing this review) mostly in TN, but also as many as I can when I travel. I will say that in my travels, this is one of the most memorable 9 hole courses I have played. This course has water in play, beautiful views, fun fairways, great elevation, excellent signage, multiple tees, and pretty much everything I am looking for in a short 9 hole course. Rarely will I play a course from a different area a second time because I prefer playing as many different courses as I can, but if I ever make my way back to St. Augustine, I will absolutely play another round at this course. I have nothing against courses being put in by parks and rec offices, (all courses grow the sport) but this course is very obviously designed by player(s) who are passionate about disc golf. Another fun addition to this course that I had never seen before, was painted bricks marking off different distances at the practice basket. These markers were surrounding the basket allowing you to practice a flat 20’ putt, a downhill 30’ putt, an uphill 15’ putt, or whatever you wanted to practice. This was an outstanding addition to the course that I had yet to see in over 100 courses. As far as the course design itself, there is a good mix of shorter holes and longer holes, uphill holes and downhill holes, wooded holes and open holes, and of course left playing holes and right playing holes. It really has a mix of everything. This would be such a fun course to loop twice for doubles because there are plenty of attackable holes that could also offer score separation. If I had to say anything negative about the course, it would be that there is definitely potential for other park visitors being in your fairways (which happened a couple times for me during my round) but I also know that this is a very common thing at park courses and is no fault of the course itself. Other than that, I just wish there was more of it. Big props to the course designer(s) and the locals who keep this course in great shape. I hope locals understand what they have and get out to rounds at this course often. This is honestly one of the best short 9 hole courses I have found in my travels.
