I can't believe this isn't rated higher! Bird's Nest is a Denver-metro classic. Right at the frontrange foothills between Golden and that town that's named after bottled water (or the other way around?), Bird's Nest is buzzworm country, and I'm not just talking about rattling chains! What better way to get a risky summer tan then play 18 holes at Bird's Nest. I'm lying. I go here when Fehringer's is too busy.

I really liked this course! I know some people complain about how open it is, but it gives you a chance to throw and actually watch the flight of the disc. I really liked playing the openness and it has its challenges as well. The course had some strange layout and at one point you could be throwing at people on another tee. I only played the first 18 as I had to fly out but it was a lot of fun. I would definitely play here again.

One of the better courses you can play in the Denver metro area. 3 downhill holes, 1-2 uphill, the rest are fairly flat. More than half the holes have multiple pin locations and are rotated a few times per year. Look for OB areas designated by rock outlines. There are several tunnel shots through the trees and some that require big sky turnovers or hyzers. There are some long bomber holes and some shorter more technical shots. On 18 throw a turn over putter or mid range for RHBH.

Some of the "challenges" of playing at the Nest:

- It can often be windy.
- In late spring/early summer the weeds can grow pretty high. Rumor has it lawnmower issues forced mowing to be postponed until late in 2018.
- The tees at least have a hole number but no map to guide your throw. Use an app like UDisc to help navigate.
- The upper holes (19-27) are difficult to navigate and are not maintained. Watch out for yucca and prickly pear cactus.

Assets - Wide open course that plays big and caters to players with bigger arms. Up and coming course that hosts a lot of tournaments. Intuitive course design makes it easy to navigate.

Liabilities - Overgrown vegetation means you spend a lot of time looking for discs. Limited tree cover exposes you the elements, which is mainly the sun and heat. Cacti litter the course, particularly on the upper holes.

Overall - This course is recommended for everyone but especially for those with longer drives will enjoy it more. Depending on how busy the course is and how much time you spend looking for your disc, it'll take the single player about 90 minutes to play.

From what I heard, my brother and I simply picked the wrong day to play at Birds Nest. Apparently, the person who regularly mows the grass couldn't do so because his mower was not working so the grass was very tall and made the round a virtual disc hunt on every drive. It was very windy (15-25 mph) during this particular day as well to compound the disc hunting problem. I say all this because I need a nice day (when the course is mowed) to properly critique Bird's Nest. Honestly, I really enjoyed the course otherwise! There are a few hills which makes for some fun holes and there is a blend of wide-open and technical holes which is always nice. The teepads are VERY impressive too and are longer than the norm giving you plenty of space of operate. The signs could use some help and navigation isn't always a slam dunk but otherwise, it is a good course. Hopefully, I can play better next time! Ha, ha...

One of the better & more challenging courses in Denver, and yes I'm aware that's not saying much as Denver courses as a whole are pretty 'meh'. But the layout is creative with the land, some elevation change, few guarded baskets, mostly long hyzer shots but there's a few mixins out there. It can get crazy overgrown in the early-mid summer and flooded if it's been rainy, so watch your discs.

Would really like to give this course a better review because it truly does have potential. Fun shots, a possible 26 holes, good baskets, big pads on every hole I played, great views & very quiet. On the down swing it is massively over grown. Holes 19 - 26 are unplayable. The grass is nearly waste high with hidden cacti & yucca plants making it dangerous to attempt. Plus unless you have played there before it can be hard to find the next tee pad. Once upon a time they had signs that clearly had been stolen over the years (thanks a bunch to the asshole kids that did that!) I nearly gave this a D but I x feel that would be unfair. The course is what it is. There is a sign saying they are in the process of mowing. All in all if this course could get some love I could give it a B but until then...
FYI, anyone giving this course a B or higher with the current state of the course needs to get out more and see some of the amazing courses Colorado has to offer, just sayin...

We were here in March, 2013. Conditions were windy, in the 50's and no snow. Tee boxes were very hard to find at times (most were only piles of rocks), we accidentally skipped one hole, and the trails were sometimes hard to see perhaps because of the season. There are a few trees and a couple swamps. There are quite a few longer holes which made it more fun. I think it would have been much better in the summer!

Now this course is a fairly wide open course but they did a great job with the space they were provided. It's right by the foothills so there's some pretty cool views of the mountains. It's a pretty lenghty course not many trees and some tall grass. It's 24 holes and mostly flat, aside from hole 1 and like 18 and 19. If you like courses that are just disc golf courses and not in parks this one is nice and quiet
