I enjoyed this course for a few reasons which I'll explain. Patriot Hills was designed as a senior project in 2012. It was meant to introduce students to the sport of Disc Golf. The course is open to the public after normal school hours and on weekends and holidays. Do not go there during the school day as you will be escorted out. Although not a perfect layout due to space limits it is great for beginners and can be a bit of a challenge for experienced players alike. This course is clean and well manicured. The signs are all in place, in good shape and offer a good explanation of each hole which is needed because many of the baskets can't be seen from the tee pad. The holes run in order around the various athletic fields and are easy to navigate. There are some minor hills, but easy to walk. Some holes break right and some to the left to offer a bit of variety. There is only one natural tee pad with the leading edge marked with a red, white and blue wood edging embedded in the ground. There is only one basket per hole, so all skill levels will play the same distances. 8 of the holes are par 3 with 1 par 4 hole. Newbies and short throwers will enjoy this course because the short distances make it easy to keep the strokes down. Big throwers and experienced players have complained that the course isn't long enough, but I think they are missing the point a bit. The challenge lies not in the distances but in the fact that on 6 of the 9 holes the baskets can't be seen and have various obstacles to overcome. The only hole I have a complaint with is the 4th hole. It is a 400 ft shot/ par 4. The basket is built just beyond a small solar farm. So in order to get to it you either have to throw over the solar farm or off to the left and work your way back. In accurate throws and short throws will fall into the solar farm behind a fenced off area. About 70 feet to the left of the basket for 4th Hole basket is the 9th Hole basket. I suggest if the solar farm scares you or you just don't trust yourself not to lose your disc there that you use the 9th Hole basket instead. It will shorten the hole by only a few feet. There is a very clean porta potty at the end of the parking lot near the baseball field. On a school day after school hours you will run into the various sports teams practicing so be careful to look where you throw. I would suggest this course for the Late Spring through Summer months and only on weekends and holidays Fall through Winter. I would recommend introducing new players to the game at Patriot Hills. I think everyone should play here at least once. The strange layout makes it interesting.
