Course has some flow issues, navigate was really confusing especially with the alternates being letters and numbers... Just for the record I played 27 holes in the following order, 1-5, A-E, 19, 6-7, 20-22, 8-18... Please renumber your course to make sense... gravel tees were a little rough as well... The course was fun and challenging though, holes 20-22 were all par 4s and 21 featured a waterfall and streams. Rockness Monster is a cool name and theme as they had tonnnnnnns of large rock and placement of basket was usually tucked in some boulders.

This course exceeded all of our expectations! Fantastic signage, theme, topography, and use of natural features. The various tee options and the secret holes made for lots of fun and challenges for the entire family. Some holes were breathtaking, near old mill sites and on peninsulas in the creek, across steep ravines, with basket placements in fun areas, too. I would rank this up with Ashe County Park as my favorite course in NC - definitely worth the trip. Kudos to designers and those who have continued to maintain the course!

The Rockness Monster is far from some mythical creature, it is real and it is a brutal and unforgiving beast. This course is not for the weak nor timid and it has swallowed and seared many strong players - the super secret dragon hole, I saw many good disc go down and a Truth lost to its wile ways.The Rockness Monster will test your mettle but it can be slayed.

Beware of the secret dragon holes as they have a hankering for some disc. This is a fun themed course that has boldery pin placement. The elevation change and dence forest make for tight shots and a premium on accuracy. The navagation and signage of this course are top notch! This is a fun course and worth the stop if you are traveling through the area.

Starting off I like to let everyone know what Im personally looking for in a course. I love the scenic aspect of disc golf (this includes boulders, lakes, wildlife, and plantlife- I do study horticulture). With that being stated, I rate a course based on a combination of the scenic factor and the overall course aspects (this includes layout, fairway lines, divesity of holes, and amenities)
Ultra scenic front 9 works its way thru a middle aged forest with some decent sized oak, maple and hickory trees.. Huge moss covered boulders (eye candy) line the fairway and scatter many of the sloped greens.. Native azaleas, wildlife and a peaceful meandering stream await you on the back 9 just adding to the aura of this nature filled round.. The signs here are world class, top of the notch giving the intended line and elevation gain/lost.. The monster is pretty tight and will leave you scratching your head if you get off the fairway as it is a rather new course, but pull out the gator (RHFH) and you can manage your way thru the very an-hyzer (RHBH) friendly front 9 and rough.. I love this place and is/was in my top 5 the first time I played it.. With Sasquatch DGC just up the road, Roxboro (in my opinion) will slowly become a semi-mecca for dgers who want thier fix on scenic, technical golf

Before moving this was my home course and it never got old. The only negative was the dirt tee pads and having to stay careful not to slip. The designer is very accepting of criticizm and loves new ideas for the course. Which added alot of interest from nearby players. This course is challenging for all players while still having a begginer level set of tees. This is definitly lne of the first places im going when i return home.

Had to update my original post because it was a long time ago and a lot has happened at Rockness. Plus i forgot what i wrote so here goes.

The big change is pads on all holes at white and blue tee locations. Now for those picky players out there, stop complaining, and second they are not concrete, which I actually think wouldn't do this course justice. They are level and natural and beautiful. Probably never heard that said about tee pads eh? I think concrete would really make the course look bad. I like these a lot better.

Second change are tee signs on all holes (white location). These are pretty sweet with both some info, distance, elevation and plan view. Also a couple pics for blue location and behind the basket if you've never played. nice touch. wink wink

And lastly a main kiosk is up. Just adds to getting tourneys and other info out there for DGers.

I believe they are also going to put a locked disc slot box for lost discs on the kiosk.

I think the tee pads alone have bumped this up to an A.
Once it gets a great walkthrough and played though more, in a couple years this could be the home of some pro tourneys.

one of my favs. i dig this course. not just because its where i work, and i get extended lunch breaks on some days, but because its one of the most thoughtful courses out there. the designer took everything into consideration, most of all other players opinions, instead of just throwing it haphazardly together. probably a boy scout. i'll list my review from positives to negatives.

positives:
great mix of heizer/anheizer, long/short. technical and what's the opposite of that?.
3 tee pads (beg, inter, adv)
incredible elevation changes and use of natural surroundings
great challenge from blues
amazing signs (wink wink*)
alternate basket locations (6 holes - 3 front & 3 back)
new, so never crowded
benches, stairs and bridges where needed

negatives:
no concrete tee pads
summer bugs (spiders, tics, bees and so on - so watch it)
hard to walk/navigate for beginners
new, so not worn in
no main kiosk

in time a few of the negatives can be taken care so that's why i'd put this course on the definite upswing even though it's new. give it a few years and pro tourneys should be lining up as a destination. a definite course to make on your "must play list"
