I wish I could give a better review. It has been about 3 years since I played there. I knew personally the creator of the course and he admitted that he became tired of having no assistance with maintaining the course. It is unfortunate as it does have some very interesting holes (one that is located in a railroad bridge support) and hopefully maintenance of the course has resumed since I left the area.

The only reason I did not rate this course a solid A is navigation, and the horrid rough.

The bad

The rough - it is what it is. Iron River is a small town, tucked away in a part of the state most people will never get to. This course doesn't get traffic, and due to that the rough is BAD and the course really isn't maintained. If you don't hit the fairway clean, it's tough to find your disc even if it's close, and even if you hit the fairway, it's pretty nasty with growth.

Navigation- It's tough to find some of the next tees. Many of the signs have been damaged.

Pads- dirt on some, rubber on others.

The good.

Variety of shots- This course tests the every shot you have.

Elevation- Up and down many times. There is a top of the world shot that you don't find at many courses.

Challenge- This course is tough. But taking the rough out of it, you can lay up.

Aesthetics - This course is pretty. It has a "cool factor" that is matched only by Flip City, and honestly this one might come on top and that is saying something. The quarry, the shot over the river, the hill shot, and the signature hole in the arch.

Overall, this really is an amazing course. If it were not so remote. this course would be talked about nationally. I can honestly say that if it had traffic and maintenance this course would be one of the top courses in Michigan for sure. It's too bad that most people will never get to this course.

This is a long course with some dangerous areas and tee pads(11 long). Having said that those same aspects make it a ton of fun for stiff competition. The course is being maintained much better than it has in the past. Lots of unique features make this a must play. Rubber teepads from the back tees and fresh concrete front tees.

Changed my previous review. This course is more for the advanced player with lots of elevation, lots of ob, lots of distance, and lots of rough. Place your shots well and hit your lines And score well, get into the rough and your in trouble...plays along the river which comes into effect on multiple holes...especially hole 17 which the basket is 25 feet from the river on the opposite side. (Sweet as shot). Lots of rocks and elevation..watch your ankles its easy to roll one.

Pros: This course is scenic, fun, a challenge, has unique holes that will test your long and short game and you will want to play the course again.

The map was good and any sign I looked at was good. Lots of elevation on this course!

Cons: Rubber tee pads that are sometimes too short or more like if you overstep you will have a very bad time... for the rest of your life... There is lots of water, the river and quarry come into play on many holes, gl finding your disc. Some of the rough requires climbing up and down steep slopes to get your disc, if you are prone to throwing in the rough then its going to be a painful round.

Other thoughts:
Playing doubles made the round more fun since it was my first time and I had a good deal of rough shots. A lot of the holes offer blind shots which I think are a lot of fun but also throw off disc selection and aim. Playing a course for the first time is usually more fun playing doubles or cali.

Make sure you get the course map. There is something similar to an RV park that has a Office and they had scorecards there with maps on them (yay maps!)

I know its tempting to try and park it, but that will get you in or past the river :(.

I guess highbridge or some other good courses in Wisconsin are nearby. Other than that, as I am from Michigan there is no other discgolf near this course, not until you get to the Mackinaw bridge 4½ hours away. Its a good 9 hours from Lansing.

This course is probably unplayable / under snow / your going to lose every disc you throw during a good portion of the winter months.

I'm not sure if I should con the rubber pads. It would be extremely hard for them to get all cement pads on this course. Although, the few short pads I chanced to step on were a joke. The Long pads were much better.

competition level course with rough that will make you cry or leave with a disc or two less. needs a lot of work and will never reach it's potential without substantial heavy traffic of which it will never find. stay in the fairways and have an amazing time. tees signs have mostly been destroyed. stop by the city chamber for help find you way.
