Carl Albert College and the local crew did a fantastic job with this installation. some of the holes need more lines carved, and there is still some rough edges around here and there that just have not been trimmed out yet. maybe twice or 3 times i felt like there was no route available and i was just hucking at trees hoping to get thru. but im a lefty..
im worried about the holes on the creek. i dont see them lasting with erosion, and predict they will get moved someday just based what ive seen from courses in TX - the creek banks move around too much.
a bunch of the holes require you to shoot to a spot in order to set up your next shot - john houck style - i.e. play 200' forward to a landing zone and then dogleg - several holes you dont see the pin from the tee box.
many of the fairways are narrow. i dont know if this was just for the tournament or if it will be this way at the weekly minis/standard, but it requires placement and control of your landing area. OB on both sides and you have to land fairway or else.
its a good mix of woods and open and up and down. i cant really call it a woods course, and its not baseball field flat either. i didnt measure but the dudes were saying its a couple miles long. its streched out I never felt like I was going to get hit from some other fairway. the land has room for more pins for sure.
drive into the campus and get on the main road that goes all the way to the back by the park. pass the baseball field and hole 1 tee is by a small pavillion. get out to poteau and play valhalla at Carl Albert.
