In Feb 2002, my wife and lost two of our children I an accident, needless to say this was by far the worst year of my life, I moved from my home town of Santa Cruz California to Washington State to try to works thing out with not only my marriage, but my life. It was a pretty dark time, but I mention all of this because it was shortly after I moved when a group of friends told me that one of my childhood idols from my home town owned this Disc Golf Course about an hour and a half form where we were living named Dalaiwood.
I remember not having the want to live let alone play some sport "Disc Golf" but I did want to meet the owner Scott Papa, so we made the trip, and continued to make trips, and play this amazing game at what could only be described as a wonderland. Months later we were invited to play in a tournament for Halloween, the discs I purchased are still in use I my bag all these years later!
See it was this course, the kind, amazing owner, and his love for a game I have continued play all these years since that gave me the first glimpse that there could be enjoyment in life again.
Dalaiwood, can only be described as the best course I have ever had the honor to play, and hope to play it again one of these days. If you never had the chance to play it before it closed.....what a shame!
Scott Papa, you are amazing and I never got the opportunity to tell you how much your kindness meant in such a dark time of my life, and the fact that you brought Disc Golf in to my life, and that of my now four children is forever a debt I could never repay.
