PDGA raises bar for 2017 event.
As an apparent response to the registration debacle at 2016 world ams, the PDGA has created or raised the point requirements for 2017. (see < http://www.pdga.com/announcements/2017-pdga-worlds-invitation-requirements-posted >) In the case of MS1 division hopefuls, 100 points will be required. Looking at today's top scorers in the World AM MS1 division: some would not have been eligible according to their 2015 points. That means many of us wishing to play next year will have to stack up some points before this year is over.

Discussion topics:
Masters+ events have occurred in prior years and there is at least one this year (Michigan Masters, June 11, Reed park). Much gratitude goes to those who organize such events. Limited time and space considerations can effect the opportunities for the less popular divisions in some of the big all-divisions tournaments; organizers can usually predict the player spots needed, but they cannot easily build the courses in a vicinity to insure that smaller divisions have equitable access to quality cou ... more
The 2016 Michigan Senior Olympics Disc Golf Tournament will be held at Oakland University Disc Golf Course in August. I am targeting the 21st as it is within the Michigan Senior Olympics 2 week window and I am running a Featured Event the week before. Saturday the 20th is a possibility but it is also Dream Cruise Saturday so that is a tough one ...
August dates for Senior Olympics at Oakland U. helps us identify events on our play schedules. Thanks...let us know how this goes.

PDGA Tier B is given...
For the May 9 Masters Open in Ypsilanti. Not only is it now Tier B, the number of holes look to be more manageable. The popularity of this event was high on the recent survey (unsanctioned group). Expect more registrations from those waiting for the tier approval.
Looks to be a good event. Honestly, I was kind of waiting until Terry kind of got his act together. There was a serious lack of information for a while. I also, like some, tried to sign up and found the mandatory t shirt cost. I understand that has been fixed. I will work on my schedule here soon and hope to sign up.
Hey Fred thanks for the Link to this info... I will print some copys of it & have it available @ our Grand Rapids Dogs of Disc events & League table.
They tripled the requirements for MM1. They should be doing this at the beginning of the year, not half way through.
500 for MG1. Almost forcing you to play a Major somewhere or play MA2 where there's a huge field, but then you still have to beat a bunch of youngsters to get your points. Time to look into local sanctioned leagues!
Just like last year, move the finish line more than halfway through the race. Hmm, no sir, don't like it.
Wayne Van Tunin is a great example. He's played 7 tourneys this year and finished in the Top 4 each time. He has about 160 points. Under the Old Worlds format he has twice as many points as he needed to quaify. under the New one, he is only a third of the way there. He will need to play 20 tour ... more
Wayne Van Tunin is a great example. He's played 7 tourneys this year and finished in the Top 4 each time. He has about 160 points. Under the Old Worlds format he has twice as many points as he needed to quaify. under the New one, he is only a third of the way there. He will need to play 20 tourneys and spend $650 to get his points. Add in Worlds $125 entry and $1000 for food and lodging. Most players over age 40 will spend over $1500 to play in the 2017 World Tourney. We are Grumpy Old Men for a reason!
^^Amen!!
I played with a guy here who runs a Sanctioned league and already has 400 points from it. Something to look into, for sure.
If I remember correctly, you only get 2 points per league. That's a lot of league nights
It is 2 for MM1, 1.5 for MG1, 1 for MS1, and 0.75 for ML1. Not very easy to get points that way but every little bit helps.
I've heard sanctioned leagues do not help your player rating. Anyone heard the same?
Also, no allowance is made for players located in the northern states where tournaments are fewer and less accessible during the winter months
Jimmy, he said something about signing up as Advanced. Does that get you more points? At 2 per league, we'd need a daily one. :)
2.5 for AM1 and 2 for AM2. Not much difference there.
I'll see if I can't run this guy down on FB. His name was James, so that should be easy. We'll get to the bottom of his 400 league points.
