The May Match Play Tourney went swimmingly at Addison Oaks. It was a little bit smaller of a turn out than one of usual tournaments but nonetheless we were in good company as always. Trying out our new handicap system, implemented by Leonard Johnson we found two very close rounds of match play golf. Each match up finished with just a couple hole deficit to the losing player keeping things interesting the entire way. This scoring system should give the club an interest fourth season of disc golf.

After the first round of golf Mike Wolters, our previous tournament winner came out on top followed by Kyle Jansen and Jimmy J. With a tie breaker of most birdies the two facing off in the top card were Kyle and Mike for a very close final match.

After all was done Kyle worked the course with his long arm and beat Mike by a point and won the state finals berth as well as the cash prize for the day.

Overall the course was beautiful as it usually is even though the pollen was out in attack mode. Next on our schedule we will be heading up to Ludington for a couple rounds, one at Leviathan and another in the Mason County Park. After that please join us for your annual trip up to Traverse City for our weekend of golf. Six rounds, lots of prizes, and camping. For that weekend we will be giving away our last four state finals berths.

Last weekend the Traverse City Road Trip was officially booked. We have 2 sites at the Interlochen State Park one for the motorhome and another for the tents. Overall we should have enough room for 3 tents but lets try to consolidate as much as we can to save some room. The weekend still stands as July 13-15 and we will be beginning our weekend of 6 rounds in Grayling at the Hanson Hills Recreation Area.

As always to stay on the route of conservation we will have a car from each side of the state traveling up so car pools will be available if needed. Randy Gallagher will be running the car pool on the west side and at this point I am unsure of who will be on the east side. Either way get together and save some gas.

This weekend will finish up our Season 3 and our career of playing skins matches. After this weekend the club will be transitioning to Match Play. Keep in mind after the weekend of golfing the golfer with the most skins will be rewarded with a Michigan State Finals Berth as well. All in all 4 berths will be awarded on the trip, one for each league, and one for the winner of the weekend. We hope to see everyone out there and anyone that is not a regular member is always welcome to join.

The Kalamazoo event was a fun event this past weekend starting at Robert Morris Park. The forecast had shown that it was supposed to be a warm day but the first round was full of precipitation. The first round started off a little shaky by both teams with a few great shots here and there to make up for a couple rough ones. Overall the newer golfer Randy Sr. showed great improvement through the day making long putts and having great proximity with up shots. The first two CTPs of the day were at hole 8 and 9 and were won by Kyle Jansen and Randy Gallagher respectively. For this round the score was for once proportional to the stroke play. The round ended with Kyle/RG playing even for 12 skins and Dirk/Mike at four over with six skins.

In between rounds we sampled the local Kalamazoo brews and food at Bell’s and planned out our trek to the unexpected change of Oshtemo Park.

Oshtemo Park was where the singles round where the upsets happened. Mike came home with the most skins, winning 9 with a +5. Scoring the best for the day with a 57 and tying with Kyle, RG took home 5. The last 4 skins were split by Dirk and Kyle. The CTP prizes of hole 6, 8, and 18 were taken home by Mike and Kyle with Kyle winning hole 8.
Our next event will be our Match Play tourney at Addison Oaks on May 26th registration is still open with plenty of spots available and a few players packs still available.

So it looks like we will be heading to Interlochen State Park for some camping for our Traverse City trip. We had a 4-1 vote. I will be making reservations next weekend or so and will be collecting deposits from everyone starting at our Deerfield event. If everyone puts in a $20 for this we should be fine on the reservations and anything that is left over will be used for food, firewood, or beer..the essentials.

I will also start collecting for the MiMPA registration next weekend as well. $34/person will get us into the association as a club and will allow four players to each event for free. Anyone else that comes along on those days we will split the cost among us that day.

One more thing to think about before next weekend is that we are missing 3 course choices from our west side members.

Alright gentlemen the Traverse City Trip has been added to the schedule all we have to do now is figure out where we will be staying for the weekend and book it. I looked into the two state parks that are close to the courses that we will be playing and here's what I found:

$62 Per Site

I have placed a poll on the home page for everyone to vote and the poll will be closing in two weeks from now. Please make your selection and once the poll closes I will book the sites for us. Once I have the final total I will divide the amount up of how much each of us should throw in and the deposits will start to be collected at our March event at Deerfield.

If anyone else has any suggestions for a place to camp and has the data for that in terms of costs etc. please get them to me ASAP so that it can be included in the poll.

Seymour Lake was a fun course that was new to some of us and home to others. The expansive course offered a great mix of holes and challenges but the most prominent challenge of the day was getting a good foothold on the large sheets of ice. There were several shots that quickly became dangerous as our players slipped around on their follow through. Even the trek from hole to hole was a bit slippery.

Overall we had the usual crew out there with Kyle dominating the course with his long open drives. Through both rounds the course seemed favorable to his long arm and allowed a great chance for skins. Once the short and slippery holes came into play everyone else came alive but didn't necessarily cash out the skins bank.

Most improved this round is Randy Gallagher Sr. learning the ins and outs of his BP Stalker getting some good distance and control. For his second time out in the league he even took home skins in the singles match beating out Seymour veteran Dirk JvG.

CTP winners were Tim Burton, Randy Gallagher II, and Kyle Jansen.

The Seymour event was one for surprises with massive winds and slick terrain. In march we will be traveling to Deerfield in Mt Pleasant, MI. See you on the course.

Season 3 is almost in the books and its time to start thinking about what's next! With that said we ask that everyone starts putting up courses to nominate for the next season so we can get everything up for a vote and ready to go.

To cap off the third season we will be heading to Lemon Lake for a weekend of six rounds of golf and camping. To keep the tradition of one travel weekend per season Highbridge in Wisconsin and Idlewild / Lincoln Ridge of Kentucky have been put up for a vote. This poll will be posted and everyone will be informed when the voting starts.

Other changes for the new season will be that the club will be converting to Match Play with handicaps to even the playing field for everyone a little further. Also instead of a formal league our events will be consist of tournaments in which points will be able to be accrued for an overall points fund. Points will be awarded once a month for a Black & White event or MiMPA event.

These changes should be great for the club and if there are any questions or concerns on the changes please feel free to contact us!

The Frankenmuth Snowfest trip was a good one. I have never seen so many people in that town as I did that weekend and after wading through the many people in the town for the Snowfest we also had to wade through all of the sledders on the hills at the disc golf course, some applauding, some heckling.

Among the usual suspects of golfers we also had a couple of new guys. Mike Wolters made the trek across the state to join us again and we were happy to have him as he’s a great addition to the crew. At the end of the day after joining the Bag Tag League Mike walked away with the number one bag tag. Another newer player was Randy Gallagher Sr., a new golfer in the sport.

During the doubles round we had two father-son teams, the JvGs and Gallaghers. The third team was comprised of Mike Wolters and Jimmy Jean. The round was a competitive one going back and forth the whole time pushing skins for big cash-outs. The round came down to a throw off after the final hole where a putter throw won the match, with Randy Gallagher I & II won with 9 skins.

The singles round was also a competitive one. Jimmy, Randy & Mike hashed it out keeping the skins pushed for 6 holes at a time with Mike coming out on top in the end with some consistent throwing and a 12-6-0 win. Kyle JvG overpowered the other card with a 14-4-0 win. One noteworthy play that shouldn’t be overlooked for the round would be Dirk’s 100’+ putt. That was the longest putt for the day and best shot by far.

Coming up next month is Seymour Lake and that date WILL BE CHANGED to Saturday rather than Sunday. Please make sure that you note the change and plan accordingly. Also in the works is the May Match Play Tourney and the July Lemon Lake Trip. Keep in tune for those as they will be developing quickly. The May Match Play tourney poll has been posted and we need you to get out and vote. We have nominated 3 different courses to hold the tournament: Goldenrod, Addison Oaks, & Vicksburg. Each golfer will have one vote on which course we will use and the poll will end Friday February 1, 2013. Once the poll is over and the course has been determined the date and rules will be posted. For this tournament there will be a limited field and custom dyed discs so be sure to register early. Cashless Pre-registration will put the golfer on the waiting list only, it will not guarantee a spot in the tournament.

Christmas is almost here and BWI wanted to wish all of you a great Christmas with your families and hope all is well. With that said the New Year is coming and since we all survived the apocalypse we should be looking ahead to the great shindig in Frankenmuth, MI.

Our next meet will be at Memorial Park in Frankenmuth but that weekend will be much more than that. The day before our golf outing a few of us will be enjoying the Frankenmuth Snowfest and a famous chicken dinner. I would like to invite everyone to join us through the Snowfest and to dinner. I will be trying to make a reservation for dinner at the Bavarian Inn for us so anyone that knows they will be joining in please make sure that you give me a heads up so I can make sure you are accounted for.

Also I have a couple of rooms at the Country Inn & Suites reserved if anyone wants to room in the same place.

I hope to see you all there to have another great day of golf as usual.

Another fun day out on the disc golf course with the Black & White crew. Yesterday was a little short of players but none the less it was a great day out in the woods as always. In the first round Big Bend Double Stroke winner Mike Wolters and Randy Gallagher were teamed up against team Jim Tim, not to be confused with "Moonshiners" Jim Tom. Both teams shot well keeping it a fairly close match in stroke play the entire team cashing out skins only in opportune moments. The round was very competitive with Mike winning the first CTP by a disc flip between Tim and himself. Both golfers were at the exact same distance from the basket. Also something worth mentioning is the use of Jimmy's Black Beauty. The Crystal Z Flex Buzzz that found it's way into his bag seemed to sneak through the most narrow of spots and got him here he needed to be. This round was a little wet but nothing too bad to complain about.

During the second round we got back out and were playing just as well as the first round keeping things real tight until the rain came down a little more and made the discs start slipping quite a bit. The second round CTP went to Randy Gallagher due to another long pace off decision that resulted in half a step distance. Talk about close. The main highlights of the round was the consistency of Tim through the rain, keeping his composure through most of the round and a couple of MASSIVE putts by RG. One put was just a long hyzer that dropped in on deep 9 one. The other was an "act of god" putt on hole 9. From about 35-40 feet the putt hit the basket and almost bobbled out and due to a gust of wind it hopped right back in the chains and came to rest in the basket to push the skins to the next hole.

Everyone had some really awesome shots out there and we all had a good time, and for the first time both rounds were decided on the last hole with no playoff holes for skins.

Next round will be at Frankenmuth during their Snowfest weekend. There will be a few club members that will be in town for the Snowfest on Saturday with dinner and golf on Sunday. Anyone is welcome and encouraged to join us for this fun weekend. Hopefully Snowfest will include snow.

Just last week Black & White recovered some real estate from China when we purchased the newly available bwcreate.com. In the future you will now be able to use both the .com and .org extensions when trying to go to our site and you'll get to the same spot. It took a little bit of waiting for bwcreate.com to be released by its previous owner across seas but it is now ours and it will stay a part of our empire indefinitely.

Today was a great day for disc golf. We had two cards at Big Bend and everyone was new to the Black & White group. Temperatures in the 50s and sunny with a great course for disc golf not much could have been better. Instead of playing static doubles teams we decided to score the tournament as singles playing as doubles, flipping for a new team for each round.

Everyone had a great time with Mike Wolters coming out on top shooting 3 down for the combined rounds followed closely by Bud Parrish with 2 down. Rounding out the rest of the top 5 respectively was Jayson Chapin, Chad Hutchinson and Cody Duggins. It was a great turn out and I hope to get back out on the course with you guys soon.

Next month we will be at Whitehall on Sunday the 16th and we hope to see you guys out there with our regular Black & White guys.

Its been a while since I have been able to add anything to the store so I just took the time to add some of the dyes I made for the Big Bend Double Stroke tournament. They are all priced at $10 per disc with the tourney dye on them. There is a variety of different molds including the Buzzz, Dart, Hornet, Beast, TeeDevil. Take a look and try out the new store as we continue to update it.

The way the store is used will be changing a little bit but that isn’t really of concern right now. Whatever is listed in the sotre is ready for shipping, just simply add the disc to your cart and go to checkout and from there you will be directed to Paypal.

There will be some more discs coming soon and hopefully inventory will be updated rather soon so the blank discs will be able to be dyed for custom orders.

Season 3 started off strong with 10 players competing! In the doubles round there was only a 3 stroke difference between 1st and 4th place and the 3rd and 4th place teams struck at the right time to take home the majority of the skins! In the singles round, many players shot their best rounds and we had some players shoot even or under par. All players took home skins too

December is here and I just wanted to remind everyone that we will be taking the trek to Whitehall for our skins league on December 16th for a couple of rounds of disc golf. The first one as always will be a doubles round to get everyone warmed up and used to the course for the second round of singles. We will be playing all 18 holes as well as the coveted Deep 9 to cover the entire course both rounds as it would be a shame to pass up any of the cool holes that the course has to offer.

Both rounds will be for skins points in our leagues, however we encourage everyone to come out and enjoy a round of golf with us whether you are a part of the leagues or not. No cash is needed except if one would like to play for the CTPs, just a smile and a bag of discs. While at Whitehall there will be at least 2 CTP competitions, there may be more based on the amount of people that turn out for the event.

For those looking to come out and play we look forward to your company and if anyone needs to carpool just ask on the talk board. In most cases we have players coming from each edge of the state so carpool is never out of the questions. Grand Rapids and Detroit are the main hubs for getting together for a park and ride.

Our blank inventory has been updated! As of now all of the discs that are ready to dye have been added to our Disc Inventory list that can be found by clicking the Disc Inventory tab on our website bwcreate.org.

None of these discs can be found in the disc store individually other than under an item called “Blank Disc.” If one wishes to purchase a blank disc without a dye please use the “Blank Disc” item and add the notes to which disc is desired in the notes section of order.

As always for a custom dye for a customer please contact us via email: [email redacted] and we will work out the details of the order and provide an accurate quote to the project.

There is one more update coming to the site for inventory and that is the used disc section and that will be happening in the near future.

First of all thanks to everyone who is participating in voting for next season's courses. I fully expect next year to be our best yet! With players from Big Rapids, Saginaw, Kalamazoo, and the greater Detroit areas, our course spread is going to cover a large part of the state next year allowing us to play courses that weren't on our radar for seasons 1 and 2.

We have one more vote between Deerfield, Seymour Lake, and Victory parks available on bwcreate.org until Friday May 11 to round out our Michigan course line-up. Currently the club is planning on Robert Morris (Kalamazoo), Whitehall DGC (Whitehall), Leviathan/Mason County (Ludington), Memorial Park (Frankenmuth), Cass Benton (Northville), and Sleepy Hollow (Laingsburg) for meets.

Remember to sign up for the Summer Skins tourney (July 15th at Kensington Metropark) for $25 so we can work on dyeing your custom tournament dye!

Then for Season 3, $25 will cover both of next year's singles and doubles leagues and can be paid to Randy or Kyle.This will go towards prizes for end of the year winners in April. If you want to be included in the skins hunt for prizes, league fees will need to be paid at or before the first meet in August. I heard Deerfield and Lakeshore have been dropped as possible courses from my previous posts (Jimmy and Luke) so I looked at the course spread and will have a vote so that courses are evenly distributed across the state and will be:

West MI:

Format will be the same as Season 2: 7 meets in MI (1 each month) and 1 trip out of state

Next year, it looks like we will have players from all over the state including new players from Big Rapids and Saginaw so the course spread across the state will be bigger. The plan is to have meets in various locations:

Southwest: ROBERT MORRIS, Meyer Broadway, Fort Custer
Central: SLEEPY HOLLOW
Northeast: MEMORIAL PARK (Frankenmuth)
Southeast MI: CASS BENTON
Northwest MI: Leviathan, Mason County Park, Northend, Big Bend, Hickory Hills
West MI: WHITEHALL
Another central or east MI meet: Deerfield, Victory, Independence Lakes, Lakeshore, Seymore Lake


The recommendation in BOLD are for courses with nominations from various players, however, I didn't get everyone's input so let us know if we are overlooking something or would prefer other courses in the area!!!

The last day of Bag Tag will be on the Summer Skins Tourney. At the end of that day Bag Tags will be paid out. The new season will begin with the new season of skins. If you want to participate in the new season you may keep your tag with your bag until the first event of season 3. On that day everyone that wants to buy in will put the tags in a hat and play for them, scoring to be determined that day.

$5 for first match (league entry), after that normal fees apply. All money goes to the final prize.

The first BWTourney is in the planning stage and we want to know where you want to play it. For the next week I will be taking nominations for the BW Dying to Disc Tournament. Each member is entitled to one course vote and may make it anywhere on one of our message boards. The best place to reply would most likely Disc Golf Scene.

For this tournament we will keep our same format playing a two round skins singles. The entry fee is TBD by you guys and a poll will be put out very soon on the BWSite. This will be a fundraiser tournament for the club and for each person that preregisters will get a custom dyed disc of their choice. The tournament will take place in July so we have plenty of time to plan for it, buts lets get started working on to get it ready to go.

We look forward to seeing this tournament take shape so let us know what you think!

The Black and White crew hit the halfway point in the season at Hammond Hill. With the biggest showing to date the club continues to gain speed and nearly saw its first league aces over the weekend. With Kris chaining out Saturday during a bag tag match and Jimmy chaining out at Hammond Hill the crew is playing some great golf.

Round Highlights
Doubles:
-Kyle, PJ and Randy had a commanding performance shooting -5 followed by Mitch and Jimmy with a -3
-Tim and Kyle's drives for birdies on 11 sparked an impressive push on a long hole
-Kris' initial CTP on 16 was bested by Justin. Both of them landing inside the circle.
-Jimmy chained out on 1 as it was used to determine skins that hadn't been dished out after hole 18

Singles:
-Mitch shot the hot round with a 57 for his debut in singles
-Tim snagged both CTPs on holes 2 and 18, edging out Justin on 2 and Jimmy/Randy on 18
-Dirk played a very competitive and consistent round, allowing him to move up to the #1 bag tag in the side challenge
-Kyle grabbed the most skins with 10 by bringing home the most birdies on the day

Everyone interested in playing season 3 please take note of the posted dates for the August, September, and October meets.

August 19th: Cass Benton (Northville) **Note since sun is up and course has more traffic this one will start at 9am (an hour earlier)
September 9th: Victory Park (Albion)
October 21: Sleepy Hollow (Laingsburg)

Other dates of the schedule are in the works and will be posted soon. This includes a tournament in November most likely in the northwest part of the state, 6 more meets in the state, and one trip to Lemon Lake (Indiana)

The Black & White disc golf club was out in full force on Sunday at Rolling Hills County Park. With seven players, we went out for some gang golf and enjoyed the course from longs as well as shorts. The course was great even with the recent snowfall, the snow impeded tee shots in the doubles round but it definitely won't scare us off. You may remember in the past when the club played in tornado weather, we are diehards.

During the doubles round the teams consisted of Dirk & Randy, Jimmy & Tim, and the JvG brothers. The brothers came out on top with their first run as partners with Dirk and Randy cleaning up the last 6 skins.

During the singles round on the shorts the club was starting to light up the tee-pads throwing some amazing shots. Kyle, Kris and Dirk all had some great ace runs while Tim and Randy sank some great putts to keep the skins pushed in a couple instances. The most notable shot had to be the 100 ft anhyzer putt out of the woods for deuce by Randy Gallagher. That shot broke a lot of hearts and pushed the skins to the next hole. Jimmy had some beautiful par saves and newcomer PJ had some great drives and is quickly improving!

As a club, we would like to say thanks to Foz Miller for welcoming us to the course and being accommodating during the Ypsi doubles league day. It was nice to meet you and thanks for sharing the course, we know others that wouldn't be so kind.

Coming up next is Hammond Hills in Hastings, MI. We hope to see you all there again. Rolling Hills was a great time like always with everyone that showed up. Black & White still abides by its motto and Rolling hills was no different, good friends = good golf.

If you haven't already seen it, a new black and white video is out (look under the bag tag page). Also footage was taken of the club at Ypsi and the next video is in the works. There is a lot going on with the black and white club so keep your eyes open!

Now the process of choosing courses begins. This year it is in the hands of the B&W members. We will play 2 courses on Friday, 2 on Saturday, and 2 of Sunday on a weekend to be determined in May.

Friday's courses will be in northern Ohio on the way to Pennsylvania and have been narrowed to Great Blue Heron (Norwalk), Roscoe Ewing (Medina), Parma DGC @Veterans Memorial Park (Parma), and Hudson Springs (Hudson). For those of you that don't catch the news from the website itself I figured I would throw this in here so everyone is informed for upcoming club decisions, I don't want anyone to be left out:

There has been a lot of new things happening on the site lately and all for the better. We have added a bunch of new discs and some new ones with custom dyes as well. Right now the dyes are on their way out but we are still perfecting the process. The gang is testing when we can to make the process work flawlessly and learn every step of the way while having fun. Anyone can have a custom dye done, just send an email or hop on the forum.

Also right around the corner is the start of the Skins Seasons 2. November 19th we will be getting together to set things off for another great season of skins disc golf. With bigger numbers the prizes will be larger and the competition will be tougher we hope to see everyone out there to play in the challenge. Also with the talk of the season starting up soon there is a Bag Tag tournament in the works to keep an eye out for. It is in development and will require input from the members on. When more details are available they will be posted.

I wish more updates could happen more frequently but I find myself disc golfing more than I probably should. Definitely more to come…as long as the golfing isn’t good!

Contact Randy about getting a tag: $10 for a tag ($5 returned with tag return) and $1 for each bag tag match you challenge. Funds go to pay out the top contenders and for 'random draw' prizes (see below) at the end of the season. For more information contact Randy, Justin, or Kyle

Random Draw:AT THE CONCLUSION of the bag tag league, all players who have:
1)Returned their bag tag
2)Paid all fees and challenge fees to Randy (in hand by that day)

.. are entered into a 'random draw' for disc prizes. The returned bag tags are placed into a hat. Randy or I will draw out bag tags. If your tag (your last rank at the end of the season) is drawn, you get to pick a single disc as a prize. This drawing process continues until all prizes are dispersed.


This random draw is separate from the cash and/or prizes given to the top finishers of bag tag.

Some of the PROJECTED costs per player are:
-$30 for everything (singles, doubles, bag tag)
-$25 for singles and doubles
-$15 for either singles or doubles by themselves
-$10 for bag tag by itself

Some of the PROJECTED courses include:
Begg Park (Battle Creek), Firefighters Park (Troy), JC Park (Grand Rapids), Rolling Hills (Ypsilanti), Robert Morris (Kzoo), Burchfield (Lansing), Shore Acres (Saugatuck), Holly Woods (Holly), and a trip probably in May

Dates right now are projected to run once a month from November to June

We keep getting closer to the wrap of our second season with two more events to go so we should start thinking about our third season. We will need seven courses and one destination for a weekend consisting of a few rounds. Let's start the nominations and see what we get. Remember we have people from all across the state of MI so lets make it accommodating for everyone. July will be our first tourney so the third season will not begin until August and if all goes well there will be another tourney somewhere in there. Each member gets one nomination and then we will go from there. The end of April will be the cutoff for your picks.

I just wanted to say thanks to all that came out to play in our first ever disc golf tournament “Summer Skins 2012.” We had a blast and we hope that you did too. Not only did we have the usual group out there we got to see a lot of new faces and have some new competition.

The Top 5:

Tim Burton
Josh Frisinger

Out of the top 5 we only had one regular Black & White member to place, Tim Burton.

Over the course of the 3 rounds that we played we had 6 different CTP prizes with each prize being given to a different winner.

Overall I believe that Summer Skins was a great success and I plan on hosting one more tournament before the end of the year. As of right now I have posted a poll on our website to determine the format of the next tournament. The poll will be open until Friday the 27th of July so get your vote in while you can and after this poll closes I will post the next one. Keep your ears open, we want to hear from you.

Doubles Round:
-Both teams (Randy/Kyle and Tim/Justin) shot under par
-Randy/Kyle shot a -3 to take 19 skins and 5 won holes
-Tim/Justin shot a -2 to take the remaining 5 skins and won 4 holes
-Kyle had the CTP on 24 edging his partner out by less than 5 ft

Singles Round:
-Good round led by Justin shooting a +2
-Kyle took CTP on 11 with a far but errant throw to the left of the basket
-Justin led in skins with 13, followed by Tim who got most of his 7 with a nice deuce on 24
-Kyle, Justin, and Tim are carded a birdie with great forehand drives on 7
