Thursday Doubles will start on 4-26, tee off at 5:30 and Sunday Doubles will be starting on 4-29 with tee off at 12:00. This year is seeing a few changes. Each league will cost players $6.00 with $1.00 going into the course fund and full deep payouts for the $5.00 entry. BUT HERE'S THE GREAT DEAL AVAILABLE TO ANY AND ALL. BUY ONE OF THE OLD AIRPORT DGC BAG TAGS FOR $10.00 AND ELIMINATE THAT $1.00 WEEKLY COURSE FEE. YES, ALL YEAR LONG AND EITHER THURSDAY OR SUNDAY OR BOTH. What a way to save some cash and at the same time contribute to the fund for cement tee pads. AND JUST TO SWEETEN THE DEAL A LITTLE, EVERYONE BUYING A $10.00 TAG BY THE SECOND SUNDAY OF LEAGUES (May 6) WILL BE ENTERED INTO A CHANCE TO WIN A NICE (although used & not perfect) DISC GOLF PRACTICE BASKET.

The drawing will be done on Random.org with each player getting a number that represents their order of the tag purchase, NOT THE ACTUAL TAG NUMBER that you'll have on May 6 but the number that represents your place in the order of tags purchased Tags WILL BE AVAILABLE all year long but only those buying in by May 6 will be eligible to win the basket. Tag challenges at Old Airport and other course are encouraged. Some of the random doubles may include everyone playing to better your tag and although that creates a somewhat random situation of exchanging, we are thinking it may be a fun addition to normal random dubs.

To buy a tag you'll need to show up at any of the 1st four league times or contact John Forshee, Jason Mathe, Alex Wilk, Mike Ecker or Craig Prime. Huge thanks to Mike for the sweet handmade tags.

Sanford Lake Ace Race is August 19th! We need a minimum of 20 orders placed for this event to happen and regardless of people signed up, an order for 20 packages will be placed Monday, August 7. Deadline for Registration is Sunday night the 6th. After Sunday, the field size will be limited to 20 players so SIGN UP NOW to secure a spot. Lots of fun and for just $30 you get 2 discs, Shirt, Mini, Reusable scorecard, and a window decal. Overall retail on that package is $68. This years disc is a control point and shoot driver coming in ESP plastic!

Contemplating a slightly different approach to Sunday Dubs at Old Airport, so anyone interested, make sure to show up this Sunday May 14th ready to tee off at 10:30am. And starting this early, there is an opportunity for a second round of Dubs for all of you that like to sleep in - maybe a starting time of 2:00pm ? Be there Sunday by 10:00 to sign up, express your opinion and tee off at 10:30.

This year we will play under some guidelines. What follows has been reformatted from guidelines from another club. Give me feedback here or send a personal message.

The hopes and efforts are that all players come to our leagues for the opportunity to have a good time, play with fun people, and possibly take a tip or two home to practice and improve your game. Promoting the game of disc golf, good sportsmanship and enticing new players to the league is an absolute. There are fees and payouts but camaraderie and good times are the number one goal. This should come without having to tolerate fellow league players who are physically or emotionally unable to continue play in a respectful and appropriate manner due to substance abuse. If a player is unable to act in an adult manner on the course, he or she may be asked to not return to our leagues for a period of not less than 2 weeks. If the same player behaves similarly a second time, he or she may be asked to never return. Fellow players can make the complaint directly to the abusing player, asking for some discretion and acceptance of the rules or speak with those running the daily event. Always rspect fellow players in your group, including respect for those that are in opposition to cigarette smoke, severe language or any one of many possible issues.

It is our goal to not only grow the sport locally but to lead by example and continue to have a respected league at Old Airport DGC in beautiful Au Gres. And fact is, there are serious liability issues. We don't want to see anyone coming or going that could be considered a liability on the course or elsewhere. If members are not interested in helping with these goals, then they may want to look at playing organized disc golf play elsewhere. Thanks

Bay City / County disc golfers and outdoor enthusiasts - There has been more talk, by more influential people this spring than I've ever heard before. Even so, the time frame for getting a disc golf course is still evading us and may be two years away. Actually, there is talk about a disc golf course coming to reality at three different locations within Bay County.

The Bay City State Recreation Area is still considering the prospect and even have it in their 2-10 year plan. Tomorrow April 5th from 5:30 - 7:30 there is a public meeting at the Visitors Center at State Park in hopes of getting public input on just what projects should be considered for the short term plan (1-2 years). I would strongly encourage anyone and everyone to attend the meeting if possible but maybe even a better solution is to post comments and thoughts on this thread. Also a very good solution is to send your ideas to The Bay City State Recreation Area attn George Lauinger, 3582 State Park Drive, Bay City, MI 48706. Just a postcard that says "Disc Golf Courses, low cost, high return". Make sure to include your return address & name. George informed me that due to only a two hour meeting, they are also encouraging concerned people to send ideas in email or letter form and assured me that all input will go into a file and be reviewed before decisions are made.

If interested, the Bay City MLive edition has had several articles on some proposed HUGE DOLLAR ideas, none of which include disc golf. Please take some time and read through what has been suggested of late and then believe me when I say that there are a whole lot of people talking about the possibility of a disc golf course at Bay City State recreation Area and also at the two other locations nearby.

COURSE UPDATE - Old Airport DGC is as dry as it's ever been in mid May. Grounds keeper Ron has Saturday scheduled as the 1st day to cut the grass with the recently reconditioned Kubota tractor. If there are interested volunteers, plan on coming out the the course Saturday and Ron will advise you on what needs to be done to make it all better than 2015. And if you're not an interested volunteer, just get yourself out to this great twenty hole, challenging disc golf course. I was asked by a gentleman that just may be the designer to explore and get feedback from those in and around the Bay City area on just what the locals think Bay City needs for a course something for beginners, advanced, 9 hole, 18 hole nothing but 24 with red, white and blue tees ? The parcel being considered is 17 acres, mostly wet thicket and woods with an area 1000' X 1000' of open land. I would appreciate any ideas that you may have be sent to me by personal message here on DG Scene. I would also greatly appreciate anyone passing the question around, especially to those that may not be considered the league or tourney player, casual players opinions are important to the feedback. The status of the course is WET !!! July 4th is the target date to have the baskets in and hopefully have a dry course to play. NO MORE RAIN !!! But the good news is that 4 of the 9 new holes are cut and ready for more hands to help with brush and log removal. Anybody that might want to help is welcome, bring friends, boots, gloves, trimmers, rakes and BUG SPRAY. Thus far there have been 4 different volunteers show up and course designer Ron Peludat has plans to have ALL 9 fairways cut by this time next week (weather permitting). Please, anybody that can make a trip to help, call Ron first and make certain that it is a work day -989-876-4155. Ron's plans are to be out there working everyday possible. Be aware, because of the wet entrance area, you will need to take a 10 minute walk back to the area where the work is taking place and you'll need to haul in equipment, water and etc. You may even want to bring a sled to haul stuff in, unless you arrive with a 4 wheel drive vehicle. Some of the volunteers do have 4 wheel drive so when they are there, you'll have a ride in and out for your equipment.
