Brewer course-work update: This Friday - July 14, is the date for laying the tee pad cement. (The cement company has informed us that this is their best and earliest.) 10 am is the planned start time. Because of our dependence on the cement company timing, it is important that people who can help with the work let Jacob Stahl (DiscBaron- 616-481-9893) know that they will be there on Friday at 10am. All Disc golfers 50 and over… there is only three weeks left to register for the 50+ DGC Senior weekend events at Kent State University which will include a ‘C’ tier disc golf tournament on July 8th and 9th along with plenty of doubles and side events that make this a totally unique disc golf experience. What awesome news for the new design being approved! In moving forward, I have been looking at league days and tourneys in the area. There are so many now! I am thinking that a great day/time to set our work days is Thursday's from like 4 or 5 until dark. This will not interfere with out local leagues or weekend tourneys in the area and also allow up to get consistent momentum in our clearing and install work. What do you guys think and shall we post it? Thursday 5/4, 5/11, 5/18, 5/25. It would be my hope that between these 4 work days or one more, we would have the course in by the end of May or 1st week of June.

Brewer Park Discgolf course redesign has been approved by Kent County. This means that we can soon go to the park and start making the needed changes. People, equipment and materials need to be coordinated.
1) This will start with a course inspection by people who would bring the materials and equipment. Those folks and course designers can do this at the earliest date they find mutually convenient.
2) We can now also find the dates all volunteers can come to the park and do the work. The earliest dates with the most people available is the plan. The County will have a say in the dates selected, to be sure that no conflict with "other events" occurs. A confirmed start date will be announced later.
Please indicate whether you are a resource for materials and/or equipment, and the dates you have available to attend a planning meeting at the park. You will be given the date this group has in common.
Please indicate whether you can participate in work days and the dates in May you have available for that work. The most popular dates will be shared back and submitted to the County. You will be told the confirmed dates.

Many of you may have heard about the redesign effort planned for Brewer. The County has given preliminary approval for the use of new wooded sections of the park; final approval will be happening in the next few weeks. We can begin our preparations for the actual hands-on work needed to clear areas for new and expanded holes. This is to take an inventory of the player-community's resources: chain-saws, hand saws, atv (hauling, stump pulling, etc.). If you own or have access to implements that can help with the cutting and removing of material this fall, please let me know about it. After we get a count of the equipment and volunteer crew we can schedule some fall days to get the work done that will get the land prepared for the spring 2017 installation work.

Pine Hills DGC is hosting a bring a basket event to get feed back on our new course at our ball golf course. We would love to have you join us and see the new addition to our other course. The owners of MVP are going to try to make it and bring a proto type basket with them as well. The event is December 12th with a 10am shot gun, we will do a $5 buy in and give back the money to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd depending on the number a participants. We will also have other prizes for long drive and CTP. If anyone would like to play the other course after we play the new course there will be no charge. At this time we will not have the carts out as they have been winterized, but if I have a big enough need I will bring some up and get them ready for play with a $10 charge to play both sides. If you would be interested please let me know so I can have a good number of players and know if I need to get the golf carts up and ready for play. We could use all the feed back possible to make the changes and get the course to one of the best in the state. Thank you

I have been entering scores for the league play. If you are a member of the league and would like to see how you are shooting on a weekly basis, please check out the league page. You will be able to see if you are the hot-round winner of the week. To be eligible for hot-round payout, you must have obtained an average (3 rounds played will earn you an average (&handicap)) and you must be a paid in club member for the year.

Those who were present and had time to talk about Brewer, mentioned how nice it would be to have a course similar to the old Blue design. I agree that it would be nice to see a short course available at Brewer.

It would also be nice to see the ground maintained to a point where it is not so squishy...like near hole 9 of the north, a bridge and possibly some ground cover made of chipped wood from the course could help. A suggestion to create some sort of drainage field through the area of south 3-6 would be beneficial to the course. Possibly a series of drain tubes with coverage of chipped wood. Also, to try to reduce the a mount of litter on the course, it would be helpful to have separate trash receptacles and can/bottle bins.

Make up rounds are going to be available soon. We (GRDoD) are hoping to have a collection box available at the course(s) soon. It may be a portable box so that we can take it from course to course, or leave it at the course of play throughout the week. Security of the box is an issue. Do we lock it and risk vandalism from those who are dishonest and feel they must break into locked things just to view the contents???? Right now, the lock is a debatable thing, yet having an area to store stuff is a primary thing. Scorecards will be available, and made of regular paper due to the possibility that people might want to use scorecards for their normal rounds of play. The same box will contain a spot to return cards.

Baskets and items needed to make the course itself a better place to be played, require funding. Miniature tournaments, or challenges for fundraising were part of the discussion. Even donations of discs and other items for raffles or special CTP/LP holes were part of the discussion.

Course design itself will occur at another meeting at some point in the near future. I am hoping to have the original great minds of Earl W. Brewer Park design involved. Opinions of many are definitely wanted, so once the layout has been designed, I will try to post it in various places so people can see it.

I am hoping that I didn't miss anything, but I will continue to keep you all posted as best as I can. Thank you for your time.

The 2014 Vibram Birdie Bash at Knollwood in Kalamazoo is coming up on May 17th! $30 gets you two Vibram discs, a dry fit shirt, a towel, and a Vibram mini!

Last year's Birdie Bash was an extreme success and I hope to see everyone there, the money raised from this tournament will go toward finishing up the installation of tee pads and tee signs.
