Discraft, our apparel company and the park departments all have tournament deadlines that are coming up. With just 23 players signed up less than 30 days from the event, we're making a couple of necessary changes.

We've decided to only use Stony Creek and River Bends and cap the event at 72 players per course. Seymour Lake will be our backup venue.

Here's how the division caps look as of today with the 144 player cap.

The entire event and all 3 rounds will be played at Stony Creek by all players.

Saturday all players will play 2 rounds with shotgun starts.
Sunday will be 1 round with tee times for all players.

Its just pretty obvious now we are not even going to come close to the 216 players we were anticipating when we scheduled this in January. There are now at least 8 other tournaments and events within 100 miles of Stony on that weekend. Too hard to compete with that. So we decided to make the change and play all 3 rounds at Stony and cut my beloved Columbus Co Park out of the event.

Hopefully playing the entire event at Stony will make it more attractive and spark some more interest this year so we can bring you more of these A tiers in the future.

The AM player packs will be ordered before Monday of next week. If you want to make sure you get some custom swag from our awesome local sponsors you'll need to get reged asap.

For several obvious reasons we’ve decided to move the event a couple weeks to Sunday Feb 4. We want to provide a safe and quality event for all. We feel the best way to do that is to change the date.

Everyone on the current registration list is entitled to a 100% refund if you can’t make the new date. If you already canceled we can work something out too as far as your refund and or signing back up.

FYI There are no NFL playoffs that day and actually no disc golf tournaments on the schedule either.

So all the Blue baskets are in and now it’s just a matter of dealing with the elements. This week will be hovering around the low 20’s and teens. Maybe not ideal conditions for a crew of volunteers replacing the baskets. I’d like to wait until it warms up at least a little bit.

This weekend looks like there is a bit of an heat wave coming in as 27-30 degrees has been seen on the forecast for Saturday and Sunday lol oh god! I think these may be our days.

The job is to replace the chain assembly and the baskets on 19 baskets before our fingers freeze off. All the poles are staying in the ground. Also we don’t have to complete the job in one day. We can do as many baskets as time will allow until they are all replaced.

The Bendik family would like to show their appreciation and thank all the volunteers and park staff who donated their time and efforts into getting this championship level course in the ground. But! You do not need to be a volunteer to play in these events or to be at the dedication. All are welcome!

The day will be separated into 2 golf events with a dedication/lunch in between.

We opened today and everything is in place.

6’ lines have been painted around the baskets and at the tees for “Social Distancing”. We are asking for only one person to be at the tee at a time and if you are within the 6’ of a basket that it is counted as a “gimme”, no need to touch the basket.

We have also worked to remove tables and homemade benches on the course to reduce gathering points. Staff will also be monitoring play to make sure groups are moving through the course and not just hanging out.

While we’re still waiting on the 2020 season to start (hopefully soon) I’d like to talk about a few things...

First, one of you will be the 18’th and final name engraved on the top tier of the Stony Cup! I’d also like to remind everyone that not only did Jameson Gauthier win the 2019 Friday Night finals. We all knew he was gonna win! Even with Skyler Stoker going for an incredible 4peat and Ryan Herzog and myself coming up 1 measly stroke short the last several years. Even though 2J was a good 30 rating points lower than all three of us on the final it was obvious HE was the guy to beat. He took it to us the entire final round too! Really, he was on fire the entire last month of the season with killer putting, deadly fairway shots and fierce determination. It was a great finish to a great season and an inspiration to us all.

Finally, I hope we’re eventually able to play but if not or we have a shortened season I think we should prepare some optional formats for the playoffs. If you have any ideas nows the time.

Happy spring everyone! As of today the start date for the Friday Night league at Stony will be April 3. We have also lowered the membership fee to $15 for a little relief to all of our players who have been laid off recently. Membership is optional but gets you 100% of the ace pool, a club shirt or disc and a club sticker. You can pay for your membership anytime with PP or Venmo if that makes it easier for you. Join us for our 17th year of Friday Night Discin At Stony! 6:00 April thru August.

3 DIVISIONS:

- DOUBLES: play best shot, random draw doubles for discs and merchandise. The champion will go home with a BRAND NEW PREMIUM BASKET at the end of the year.

- SINGLES: play for ca$h and a chance to get your name engraved the STONY CUP and a nice ca$h prize.

- OLD PEOPLE: players 40 and over play for cash and cash prizes at the end of the year.

POINTS:
5 points for an Ace
5 points for a win
4 points for 2nd & 3rd place
3 points for 4, 5 & 6th place
2 points for 7 thru 10th place
1 point everyone else

THE POINT RACE & PLAYOFFS:

The 2019 point race will be 20 weeks from April 5 till August August 16th. The semi finals will be held the following Friday August 23 and the Finals will be on that weekend. TBA which day.

6 players from each division will make their respected playoffs. The top 2 point earners will get a first round bye while places 3 thru 6 will playoff in the semifinals. 2 players from each div will advance to their finals. The final 4 somes will battle for the titles and all the bling TBA on either August 24 or 25.

ACE POOL: will start at $118 carried over from our winter league boom!

We are setting up a volunteer day to do some trimming on the courses. They want to send a crew out with us to clean up whatever trimming we decide to do. So keep an eye out for areas that need attention and areas where you lose your discs and let me know. You can comment your ideas here on this board.

This last Sundays tournament, the 14th annual Stone Cold, essentially wraps up our 2015 golf season. What a great season we had too. The weather we had this year simply cannot be beat. Was never too hot or cold, rainy or dry! Just great weather all year!

The Friday Night Discin @ Stony finished up this year with some cool new things...
-most club members at 70
-biggest field of players at 60
-pro players winning over $100 in cash multiple times
-we had players winning as much for a league win as they do for cashing/winning a tournament
-held a charity event with Audra Stoker for the fight against Alzheimer's disease
-started up the Team Stony JR league on Wednesdays for the super young guns.
-started up the winter travel league on Sundays
-went in with Gone Discin League and donated a basket to Stony Creeks new south "Green" course...
...Just to name a few things. It was a big year for us!

In our clubs continuing efforts to help grow our pro divisions, Team Stony also ran our first PDGA event, The Stony Creek Open. The first tourney ever at Stony Creek with $1,000 added to the men open purse. I hope this starts a trend. There are so many people playing now and so many great sponsorship programs being offed by manufactures that this should not be such a rare event to add $1,000 or more to our pro events. The 2016 Michigan disc golf tournament schedule is already looking like there will be many many events with some major loot coming to our area. So...You're welcome!

Disc golf is currently experiencing massive growth world wide and here locally as well! Its so great to see this sport grow so much so fast and we are glad to be a part of it. But its the PLAYERS that make this what it is! Players who love to play this great game of disc golf! We are introducing a new tournament this year and using it to crown the Champions of Southern Michigan. To be eligible to play in this event, you must have won a singles tournament within the State of Michigan, sanctioned or unsanctioned, within a year of the event itself. Since this years inaugural event is on September 27, 2014, you can go back in time a year for your eligibility to September 27, 2013. If you won an event within the State of Michigan, between the dates of September 27, 2013 - 2014, you can register at the link provided above.

As a special incentive to being crowned the Southern Michigan Champion, we have raised enough funds to add in $800 to the Open purse and $1200 to the Amateur merchandise. A special thanks goes out to Nate Buban who runs the BOBIS Saturday Doubles, Jeff Bauman from the Friday Night Discin' at Stony, Louis Caponi / Ted Stoebling from the Metro Detroit Disc Golf League (Metro Detroit's longest running league), and Mike Cook / Mat Stivers from the Motor City Chain Gang. These guys ran a 50/50 CTP every week during their leagues specifically for this event!

The cash will be added to the Open divisions while the Amateurs will get a cool players pack and more...

Critter shoots a -9 (63) and leads it in the open while J Ride and Scott Ransley are tied for the lead in masters with a slightly more human -1 (71).

Nathan Kretz smashed #19 for an ace today. He'll be taking the home the $50 ace pool if no one hits at Stony tomorrow.

The 50/50 CTP on #2 was hit by yours truly taking $22.50 and a couple of first run Slayers donated by 7 Star Party Shoppe at 25 and Shelby. The other 50/50 CTP for $22.50 and will be on #27 at Stony tomorrow.

Tee off will start at about 9:30 tomorrow at Stony on hole one.

Happy new year all! I'm getting things set up for the 2013 season and wanted to get some of your opinions on this tournament idea.

IMO, our courses have become too long and too crowded to have 2 tournament rounds in one day. What I want to do is play ONE round a day for at least 2 days. Because our league is on Friday, we may be able to incorporate the Friday night league round into the mix and make it a 3 day... With money added, all the usual side bets, tropheys, Sunday interviews with the winners, and just 3 - 5 hr days insted of a 9 -12 hr day.

Three round tourney:
Round 1 will be Friday night @ Stony tee off @ 6pm
Round 2 will be Saturday afternoon at Addy/RB/Sunnybrook Tee off at 1pm
Round 3 will be Sunday morning at Stony staggered start on #1 first group tees off at 9am

Two round tourney:
Round 1 Saturday @ Stony
Round 2 Sunday @ Sunnybrook/Addy/RB
Plus a side bet and money added to players who play friday night to get a 3 round total score.

Please share your opinions, if you think you can make it, your chances of playing all 3 rounds, tee times on sat (cause I know lots of peep have to work on sat), entry fees...and as usual, please direct complaints and grievances to John Minicuci.

The 10th annual Stone Cold will be played Sunday, November 11th, 2012 at the brand new PERMANENT Sunnybrook Disc Golf Course.

Below are some of the details:
$150 added cash is just an estimate, We've averaged about $200 added.
When: Sunday, November 11th, 2012
Where: Sunnybrook Disc Golf Corse Sterling Heights, MI.
Format: Singles, Stroke Play. 1 Round of 18 Holes and a Final 9
Registration: 8:00 - 9:00am Player's Meeting: 9:00am

The entry fees per division are:
$30: Pro + $15 merchandise (something youd have in your bag)
$25: Advanced Am's
$20: All other divisions (3 plyrs min)

All entry fees include $10 for greens fees, golf carts and at least 1 cash side bet.

The merchandise from the Pros will be used for the AM payouts. The Pro and AM entry fees will fund the payout for the Pros. We average over $200 added to the pro purse every year.

Warm up in the clubhouse afterwards with food, drinks and the Lions game
