2021 MPO State Champion Jarod O'Brien will be sharing some knowledge to make you a better putter. And you'd like to be a better putter right?

Meet up at the Kincaid practice basket tomorrow (Wednesday 8/7/24). Clinic from 5-6 PM. Bring your putters, and probably a towel/umbrella. I'll also bring a bunch of different putters if you'd like to try a new mold or if you're new to the game are interested in what disc golf is all about. Bring a friend and stay for a doubles round.

Finally after 4 years in the making, we were able to secure $35k in community parks grant money to ensure that Kincaid DGC gets the attentions it deserves. This week the Youth Employment Program started their awesome work, these guys/gals are GOOD. The scope of the work is directed at erosion mitigation around the tee pads and leveling the practice basket area with new fill. We will also be installing 18 "Blue" Innova Discatcher Pro Baskets in all long pin positions!!! Now you will have the choice to play four different layouts of your choosing. Hello everyone,
After some discussion we have decided to make The Forest Fling a two day event this year, with amateur divisions playing on Saturday, May 28th, and professional divisions playing on Sunday, May 29th. We discussed a number of possible scenarios and took into consideration the feedback we received from many of you, and decided that this is the most logical way to go about things this year. One possible option was to hold two rounds on Saturday with tee times for both rounds, and then one final round on Sunday, also with tee times. The other option was to split the event and have each division play two rounds on one of the days, which is ultimately what we decided on. Registration for both days will now open on Friday, April 22nd at 7:00 pm. Amateurs who wish to play on Sunday may register as full participants ($60, eligible to receive cash) or as "trophy-only" by selecting the "GENERAL" division when registering. Trophy-only players will pay $25 to play and their net entries will go into the pro payout for whatever division they compete in, and they are not eligible to receive cash. Hope to see you all in Girdwood!

Hi, folks - planning out the Summer Sanctioned Singles - last year Tuesdays worked best, since Wednesdays are Kincaid doubles, and Thursdays are Alcan doubles. People running those leagues, let me know if anything has changed.

If Tuesdays work, the plan is to start on May 3 - this would allow us to do two leagues, 20 weeks, ending on September 13...last year we ended on September 21 and it was kind of dark at the end of that last week's round. The plan is Davis Park and Peter's Creek, with maybe a round at Alcan, Girdwood, heck maybe even Meier Lake or Kincaid, thrown in there. 6:30 start time for the Davis/PC evenings, 6:45 if we do Alcan or Girdwood (and we can be flexible, sending out a card late if there are some folks who have trouble getting off work early enough).

I hope everyone and their families are OK after this morning's devastating earthquake. Having lived in Alaska almost all my life I can say that was the most intense seismic event I've ever witnessed. I was working at Costco at the time and the steel was swaying a good two feet at the tops of the aisles. Pretty scary. Everyone please try to stay safe as we recover over the coming days. Life will hopefully return to normal fairly soon.

Hello all, Chad Rutledge has agreed to take on WNL this season along with help from myself. My light order hasn't arrived just yet so we'll kick things off next week at Westchester. I will however run a glow cash doubles this evening at Davis Park. I only have around 10 packs of lights available at the moment, at $4 for a pack of two lights. We will play the red tees twice this evening as the blues are probably a bit much for glow. I'd like to kick things off at 6:30, so I'd advise arriving early if you need time to prepare discs and such. $5 per player, full payout for tonight...next week we'll be official.

Baskets at Davis Park are in!!!! There are no signs in yet, and I will be updating the layout on the UDisc app tonight. There is still plenty of work to be done, but it is playable. Volunteer work party tomorrow Sat. from 10-2 then 2 rounds blind draw dubs...one at 3 p.m. and a glow round at 7 p.m.

There are still several problematic trees on a few holes. We will be fine tuning the course over time, so please have patience as we watch how the course is being played and breaking in. So, I hope you enjoy the course and appreciate the immense time and effort this project took on many levels.

Alright alright allllriiight!

Great work today and this week... the course is still pretty raw, but it is very close to being playable and close to completing Phase 1. The course should be available to play on Friday evening barring any unforeseen issues coordinating basket load in.

We will be there tomorrow (Thurs. Oct 18) from 10-4, if you have the time come out and help finish prepping for basket install.

Looking at the schedule, I do not see any tourneys this weekend, so I originally was going to run a glow Friday night glow dubs. However, I would rather run two rounds on Saturday. One round beginning around 2 pm (AM/PRO and PRO/AM per nine holes), and two hour break and then do a glow session in the evening.There could be a singles round in the afternoon and dubs in the evening. Or two rounds of dubs, I am open to feedback. I highly suggest, if you want to play glow, you also play the daylight round in the afternoon. This is a a tight wooded course, and playing the course at night without ever walking or playing the course would be unfair to others who have. I will post a separate post regarding Saturday rounds, once I get a better idea of involvement and interest.

Work call Saturday from 10-1 to do a final walk through clearing fairways of branches, and large chunks. This is a good time to preview the course before the two rounds. I will also be placing temporary course signs at this time. General distances will be available of the UDisc app.

The feedback from local community members, park users. and casual discers has been positive. There is a very high value to this course for Mt. View, and Anchorage as a whole. I hope you all can find the time to help out and support this project that will add a better quality of living to the Mt. View community. Even though the course will be playable this weekend, there is still more to do.

Most appreciative thank you to Elaine H., Gabe K, and J Boyd for the work on Sunday. We got a lot accomplished with finishing 2, 3 and most of 4. And thank you to Chad R. and Russell J. for working on 7 today, its looks really good! We are down to 4 holes for trimming and removal (last part of 4, 5, 6, 8).

If anyone goes out on times we are not there, and you want to help....there are limbs and downed trees to be moved. Hole #2 and #3 are a good example of how we are organizing the material for further chipping or project use. Branches and limbs are piled near the path with smaller lengths of birch and spruce trees, perpendicular to the path. Larger birch logs are being placed near tee connector path entrances for bordering and future native (flowers and berry) beds. Larger spruce logs are being stored for soil retention and step projects (stored parallel to the path). If in doubt, just move branches to piles in areas where discs should not be landing, near the path. There are also trimmed branches under trees that can be moved to appropriate piles.

We will be meeting again collectively on Sunday, Oct. 14th from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. to finish the holes.

Thank you, thank you, thank you to Alicia and Timothy Overgaauw from JBER, Elaine Houchen, Seth Stambaugh, Gabe Kutcher, and Chad Rutledge for coming out on Sunday to help with the grunt work to help get the Davis Course playable. A lot of work was accomplished and there is still more to be done. Sunday Oct. 7th and 14th from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. (yes, I realize it is football Sunday) we will be working on the course. My ultimate hope is to get the course playable for winter leagues. This is a joint effort between the support of the Anchorage Parks and Rec and the ADGA. Need your help peeps. Come join us, I will be providing lunch.... please post in the comments if you attend to join so I can plan accordingly. Thank you...and remember, many hands make light work...

The course keeps getting closer to be playable. Parks crew finish falling trees and helped clear some of the fairways. Chad and I put two of three sleeves on hole 7(the Mounds) today. The third will go in next summer when we timber the south mound. There are only two holes left that have only one sleeve installed.

For those not going to Homer this weekend, we will be having a work day at Davis on Sunday, Sept. 30th starting at 10 am. Please come out and help if you have time available. I would really like to get this course ready for glow league!

Tasks to make the course playable, this is what needs to be done...
Clear fairways of limbs and logs to piles in non disc landing areas
Limb trees and clear around greens
Remove 2x4 forms from tee pads and back fill with gravel
Mark path from #6 green to #7 tees

Hello All!

Last week fairway construction begin along with tee pads. Tomorrow is the last day for the forest mulcher to clear fairways and do a final mulching pass over the fairways. I will be there today from 11 to 5+, if you have any free time today I could use help moving tree parts in to the middle of the fairways to prep for final mulch.

The YEP students (Youth Employment Program) have done the majority of the tee pad and trail work. They have worked really hard and have done a great job. Their last day is Thurs., so after that the rest of the work will need to be completed by volunteers. Tee pads are being poured on Tues. and Weds. What will be left is basket sleeve install, tee and course signage, tree limb trimming, retaining structure on one of greens, and possibly finishing a few connector trails between greens and tees.

Last week fairway construction begin along with tee pads. Tomorrow is the last day for the forest mulcher to clear fairways and do a final mulching pass over the fairways. We will make the the KotH layout decision by Sunday so please let us know . Hole 4 was moved to the right of the guardian pine to try to make it challenging . Is it ok or is the original better or is there a better location ? Hole 11 Red was moved 40 ft right into a small pocket . The basket sits about 15 ft in and is not visible til within 50 ft of the basket but is reachable off the tee with a forehand or ani backhand . Is the basket too far in the pocket ? Is the original better ? Would it sitting closer to the fairway be better and a new challenge ? Please let us know here . Thank you .

I've been contacted by a teacher at Aquarian Charter School asking for a volunteer from our association to come and speak to children about the sport of disc golf. He is doing a day on disc golf and a day on Ultimate and would like someone to come for 30-60 minutes (or more if available) on Friday, May 11th in the morning hours to speak with about 20 students ranging from 3rd to 6th grade. I think this is a great opportunity for our association to help grow the sport within the most important demographic. Nominations – due by Feb. 5th meeting, nominees must acknowledge and approve of their nomination before elections take place. Nomination are submitted my PM to either me or Timari Mitchell , our profile links are in the Staff section on right side of this “About” page. Timari will send out a Survey Monkey ballot to registered 2017 ADGA members via email the last two weeks of Feb. Election results will be announced at the March 5th meeting.

Officer Positions and Responsibilities (per By-Laws, check comments tab for the full posted By-Laws)

President -- the president will be chief executive officer of the organization. It will be the duty of the president to preside at all club meetings and to have general supervision of the organization.

Vice President -- it will be the duty of the vice president to act in the absence of the president and also to perform such duties that may be assigned by the president, or the board. The vice president shall sit on all special committees. In the absence of the president, the vice president shall hold the same force as the president.

Secretary -- will be responsible for keeping all organizational records. The secretary shall post, or cause to be posted all notices of meetings, special meetings, and all other notices required by these by-laws. The secretary will be the custodian of all books, correspondence, and papers relating to the business of the organization, except those of the treasurer. Secretary will prepare and present to the membership any reports as may be required, to include minutes from the previous meeting.

Treasurer -- shall have general charge of the finance of the organization. When necessary and proper, the treasurer will endorse on behalf of the organization all checks, draft notes and other obligations. The treasurer will deposit these and all other funds into a designated account with a bank selected by the organization. The treasurer will keep full and accurate account of these transactions as well as disbursements of club funds. The treasurer will maintain this record in a ledger belonging to the organization, which will be open at all times to the inspection of the officers. At each monthly meeting the treasurer will present a report of the previous month’s transactions to the membership present. Club officers may request a similar financial report at any time. The president and other designated officers will also be co-signers for club purposes.

Tournament Coordinator -- Shall be responsible for maintaining the physical upkeep of the courses with the help of other ADGA members. He will coordinate tournaments: work closely with the respective parks and recreation and upkeep the bulletin boards. The TC will regularly record and surrender club revenue to the treasurer. TC’s and all members should assist players of all levels in improving their skills, act as ambassadors for the club and encourage membership.

Upon reviewing our 14 year old By-Laws, I would like to open this for discussion at the next meeting:

Elected officers – for our State Incorporation, we are only required to have 4 elected officers: President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and at least 3 director positions, which can be held by an officer or member. I suggest the P, VP, T, and S be the only elected positions and the coordinator/director positions are volunteer basis approved by the board and/or membership at a monthly meeting. This allows for director positions to be flexible from year to year to meet the club’s needs and volunteer interest.

Suggested director/coordinator positions (PLEASE KEEP IN MIND, these are suggested and open to discussion and development)

Tournament Director – help facilitate ADGA tournaments and scheduling, assist new TD’s with running tournaments and submitting PDGA Tournament Report

Courses Director -- coordinate and facilitate maintenance of local DG courses in the greater Anchorage Municipality

Public Relations Director –

Fundraising Director – coordinate and facilitate fund raising efforts and order merchandise

Online Coordinator – responsible for online internet communications of club events and activities

League Coordinator – facilitate league events and records

Membership Coordinator – facilitate membership records, distribution of ID cards, coordinate volunteer efforts, order merchandise

We have to submit tournament scheduling by the end of the month. So I will be contacting our TD's to confirm their interest and preferred dates for their tourneys.

Hey guys,
Just wanted to touch base with everyone that is playing Glow Dubs this winter season to get their opinion on the Ace Pot. What i have been doing before if to pay it out monthly, meaning if you hit an Ace during the month, you get whatever the pot is currently at. If there is not an Ace hit by the end of the month, whatever the pot is up to, some of it will go to the club (to get some added cash for the club to buy discs, shirts, and run events in the future) and then the rest goes towards the Final 16 payout at the end of the season. (More added cash, better pay out for each team that makes the Final) I will put up a couple different ways we can do it, you guys can vote on it, and we will do it the way the majority wants to (as i had a few complaints about it in previous seasons dubs) Comment below and let me know what you would like to see.

-Monthly : If Ace is hit, player gets whatever pot is, and then is reset for remaining weeks of the month. If Ace is not hit at end of month, half will go to the Final 16 (for larger payout) and half will go to the Club (for future ADGA events, disc orders, etc...)

-No Limit : We keep the Ace pot going until someone gets an Ace. If an Ace is hit, player gets whatever the Ace Pot is up to. No Limit on the Ace Pot amount. At end of season, the Ace Pot will roll into the Final 16's Ace Pot, and if no one hits an Ace during the Final 16, we put that money towards the Final 16 payout, distributed among all teams in the Final.

-Capped : We keep the Ace Pot going until it reaches a fixed amount (say...$200) and then whatever is accrued for the Ace Pot once the capped amount is already reached, some of the money will go to the Club, and the rest will go to the Final 16 payout. If an Ace is hit, that player will receive the $200, or if the pot is less then the capped amount, they get whatever the pot is currently at, and the Ace Pot then resets and begins again.

-Roll Over : We keep the Ace pot going until someone gets an Ace. If an Ace is hit, player gets whatever the Ace Pot is up to. No Limit on the Ace Pot amount. At end of season, whatever is in the ace pot will go towards the Ace Pot of the Final 16. If no Ace is hit during the final, the Ace Pot then Rolls Over to the summer league dubs to start that season with more money into dubs at Kincaid.

I'm working on setting up an indoor putting league this winter. So far I have two different locations and am working on getting more. I'm thinking of having this on Tuesday nights starting at 6:00pm. Random Draw Dubs Format:

At 6:00pm, all registered players will draw a single playing card. You’ll partner with the person with the matching color and number (i.e. red 6’s, black queens).

If there’s an uneven number of players registered, I may join in, or there might be a lone wolf (Cali). Decisions will be made at the time of event.

Setup:
A putting lane consists of two opposing baskets 30′ apart. Note that it’s inside the “circle” – jump putts are not allowed

Two teams per lane (4 players), one player on each basket (two players on each side).
First to throw will be decided on by disc flip, and will remain constant for the entire match.

Scoring:
Two putters are thrown.
2 in = 3
1 in = 1

First to 11 wins, must win by 2.

If a team wins on a round, both players on the throwing side must complete the round, (finish the side).

Odd Team Bye:
If there is an uneven number of teams, one team will get a bye. With the exception of the first round, bye teams are automatically chosen based on being in the losing half of the bracket (only teams with losing records will be chosen).

The bye team will get a freebie win. It’s not completely free, as the bye win will not count as much as an earned win in the tiebreaker difficulty score.

Turns:
Each turn consists of teams alternating throws from one basket to the other, where their partners will be.

Alternate Throws: Team 1 throws, then Team 2 throws. Repeat.

Then the Team members from the other side throw.

Score Reporting:


Rounds:
There will be 6 rounds to determine the top 2 teams.

Teams will be paired up based on the night’s performance, as the scoring system we use calculates based on wins, losses and difficulty of opponents.

If two teams are tied in record AND tiebreak score (as determined by the difficulty of opponents faced), there will be a last chance qualifier tie breaker.

Last Chance Qualifier Round:
Any teams tied for second will playoff in a “down and back” round.

Each team gets their own lane, so one lane per team. each player from the team will line up on the SAME side of the basket. They putt, their teammate putts, they putt, their teammate putts. Scoring is the same as a round (3pts for 2, 1pt for 1). Then they both shoot back, for a maximum of 12 points.

The team with the most points moves on to the Championship Round. If teams are tied after coming back, go down and back until the tie is broken.

Championship Round:
The top two teams will face off in center court, using the same rules in the round – except the game ends at 21 instead of 11.

There will be two sessions of 16 weeks each. (October 3rd. - January 16th.) (February 6th. - May 22nd.) There will be a final championship event/party on May 25nd. In order to compete in May 25th. event you must have competed in at least 75% of the 32 weekly events.

We will be using a Swiss style bracket system, which allows us to do a few things:

There is no elimination – even the worst teams play all night
It matches teams closer and closer to skill level all night – most teams get at least one win
It only takes 4-6 rounds to determine who’s the best team by strength of schedule
It works byes into the system, and only gives byes to losers (with the exception of the first round)

The cost each week will be $12 ($5 fee - $5 payout - $2 final event)

There will be other prizes each week as well.

We have finally gotten the go ahead to start the installation process. Tree removal will be contracted out and a landscaping business will work with a crew of YSEP (summer employed high school students) to build tees, greens, and paths. We are working on a celebration bbq and doubles round after install is complete, August. So will need 25ish members to partner and play an organized round.

I am meeting with Parks and Rec on Thurs. and will have a better idea of the timeline. Installation should be starting after the State Championships.

This Friday, Saturday and Monday I am working at Arctic Brewing Supply near Abbott and New Seward. I can have the equipment with me in the van for pick up, then I can head over to Kincaid after work for pick up.

It is that time of year again to give Kincaid a hair cut, plus a few extra projects. In the comments, please state which hole or holes you would like to work on and when (if you need to use club equipment). Chad Rutledge and I are working on logistics for providing the club equipment. With Davis Park course being a green light now, I will not be able to be out at Kincaid every evening leading up to States like I have in the past. The club has 1 weed whacker, 3 mowers, and 1 string mower for rough cut.

While I was there, someone was kind enough to break into my truck, steal my entire setup. I had a red bag with backpack straps. Along with about 15 discs, a few minis, towels ect. This leaves us with only one option currently. If you all really don't want to play Peters Creek tomorrow then I will just cancel the doubles and people can play casually wherever they may prefer. I will not however violate the agreement we have just to hold one Saturday doubles round at a course we will all be playing regularly very soon. My employer has restocked the lightweight single chain baskets again this spring, and I told management I'd let our community know that they're available. These aren't permanent grade baskets, but would serve well as a practice basket for the yard. We will continue the rotation at Peters Creek this Saturday, 4/15 for ADGA doubles action. $5 for current ADGA members, $7 for non or non-current members. As usual $4 goes to the payout with the remaining funds going to the club. We've raised almost $150 so far, so I hope to see everyone there for some spring golf. PC has been playing really well lately, the pads are nice and the melt has been gradual there so it doesn't have the pooling of water that some of the other courses currently do.

In the interim I've decided to run a doubles league on Saturdays, alternating between Westchester Lagoon and Peters Creek. The buy in will be $5 for ADGA members and $7 for non-members. There will be no ace pot so $4 from every entry will go into the payout with the remaining funds going to the ADGA. The 4 holes we changed are nearly complete and will be open for play this Sunday at noon . These are the changes we made - Hole 3 is brand new , its a short cross hill shot past guardian trees of roughly 225 ft ( I will measure tonight ) to a hillside pin , Hole 4 is shorter with a challenging elevated tee pad looking at the basket guarded by the twins ( epic teebox view) . Hole 6 is new with a elevated teepad and a huge alder patch bunker and over a hundred ft added to the hole ( This is a serious par 4 hole ) this also has a new pin position to the left of the old one . Hole 8 is a beast off the teebox that will now sit back in the woods adding 70 + ft with trees , lift shack , wires and a small mound to beat within 100 ft of the tee then a approach to the pin in a new position . Hole 12 get a new green and pin this yr to the left of the old position that should make for a more challenging hole . Hi everyone! I hope you're all having an awesome summer so far! I just wanted to check in about the Jailhouse tourney. With this being a trophy only event (and they're pretty sweet if you ask me!), if the tourney were to fill up this is how the payouts would go (paying out at least 25% except for MPO):

Open - Cash to those who cash and trophies for the top 3 finishers (3/16).
ADV - Trophies for the top 6 finishers (6/24).
WOM - Trophies for the top 3 finishers (3/8).
MAS - Trophies for the top 3 finishers (3/8).
INT - Trophies for the top 5 finishers (5/12).
JUN - Trophies for all finishers (4/4).

However, since it probably won't fill, some divisions will be left with fewer participants therefore lowering the number of trophies awarded (applies to ADV and INT only). I will place the final order on June 15th, three days prior to the close of registration. I'm not saying stop what you're doing and register but please do keep an eye on your division. Also, apart from the disc to the first 50 participants to sign up, you'll also receive a bag tag. Those will be handed out in the order you sign up (Schwebby is currently holding the #1 tag).

We'll have lots of CTP's during all 4 rounds and plenty to give away at the Ring of Fire, Putting Ladder, CTP. Hoping nobody goes home empty handed... See you all soon!

Hi friends! Hope you all had a Merry Christmas and that your New Year is off to a great start! Life is good down here!

Sometime in November I found an offer on an App I use called Offer Up. OU is similar to Craigslist only it searches a much smaller radius using the zip code you enter. The offer was for a custom, laser engraved, 28 oz glass stein, like heavy-duty style. I got them all personalized with your name and pdga number with the same image. The image is of a basket with the number 49 on top (for my 49 State Crew). Because I was able to get them for such a great price I went ahead and ordered 30 of them. Please know that this isn't a gift. Simply a nice gesture. The last 9 years I was up there I had no family. Just my DG family. And for that I am very appreciative. Maybe you can accept this as a token of my appreciation if anything.

I will be shipping these up to Jake within the week and he'll have them at both Wednesday Night Lights, as well as, Saturday Leagues (assuming he's not working). I'll be shipping up 3 boxes that weigh approximately 90 pounds so instead of him having take all three boxes with him I'll let him decide how he'd like to handle this. If it was me I'd ask you guys to let me know if you'd be at either league and I'd take those with me but I'll let him decide. He's doing me the favor so I'd like to make it as easy as possible on him.
