DGLA Mission Statement
The Disc Golf League Association (DGLA) is an organization that promotes disc golf by supporting: disc golf leagues for all levels of players, course creation and improvements, and the growth of local clubs and leagues. We foster a cooperative effort to achieve greater things for the players and organizers of disc golf. The DGLA also keeps an eye on the bigger picture: working for sustainable environmental practices and a strong local community.
Greetings Disc Golfers,
Welcome to edition 1 of the Disc Golf League Association newsletter! Thanks for reading. We plan to issue this newsletter on a monthly basis just to update the members on all of what is happening in the world of DGLA.
Let’s start this off by talking about the big update to DiscGolfScene and the Michigan Cooperative Point Series (MICPS). Recently you may have noticed that the leaderboards have expanded to track many different stats. Before we just had the overall points battle, but now we have: weekly, monthly, and overall points as well as separate leaderboards for number of wins, number of rounds, and number of unique leagues played. Your discgolfscene profile may get some extra bling by added achievements that are tied to these new leaderboards. We also plan to use these new leaderboards to award discs, berths and other prizes (more on that later). Please take a minute to recognize Pete Crist, who made all of this possible through his programming wizardy and hard work. Thanks Pete.
One other new addition to DiscGolfScene is the “DGLA Members” only leaderboard. Are you a member yet? Wait, what does that even mean? Why would I become a member of DGLA? Hold on, let’s address these one at a time:
What is a DGLA Member?
Membership is open to everyone. We offer three levels of membership:
Player Member ($30 annual investment) – This is the main option for a player who wants to compete for prizes in the point series.
• Eligible for prizes in all competitions of the Michigan Cooperative Point Series for the current year.
• Member’s package including a DGLA disc and mini
• A portion of your investment goes to the DGLA Course Improvement Fund (more on that below) and you have voting rights in the selection process.
• Access to member’s area on DGLA website, and ability to post course improvement projects and disc golf vendors.
• Lifetime DGLA# (Hurry up, those low numbers are going quick)
Contributing Member ($15 annual investment) – This option exists primarily for those who wish to support our projects but are not interested in the league point series prizes.
• A portion of your investment goes to the DGLA Course Improvement Fund and you have voting rights in the selection process.
• Access to member’s area on DGLA website, and ability to post course improvement projects and disc golf vendors.
• Lifetime DGLA#
Supporting Member (No Cost)
• Access to member’s area on DGLA website, and ability to post course improvement projects and disc golf vendors.
• Lifetime DGLA#
So why would I become a member? Well, if you play a league on a regular basis, then you can win stuff! You also get a nice members package each year that you renew. A membership in DGLA shows that you are showing support, and numbers speak loudly to others, especially sponsors and parks and recreation decision-makers.

Course Improvement Fund

Through our member investments we will be funding a course improvement fund. Here’s how it will work: We will take submissions from people who have a need for a new course or a new course improvement. All of the eligible projects will be displayed on the DGLA website. All paying members will have a single vote, and the top vote getters will be awarded cash to fund their project! Sounds simple, no? If you have a project in mind please contact us or check out the website to find more information on how to win funding.

Our goal with the DGLA resource directory is to make one spot to find information for all of those disc golf retailers and equipment manufacturers out there. Feel free to go on there and search for a vendor, or even better submit a vendor that we don’t have.

The MDGO is where all of the individual clubs in the state come together for a common purpose. Without their support we would not be able to offer all of these berths to the best tournament in the world – the Michigan Disc Golf State Finals in Ludington, MI. If you have never been to this tournament it is a must play.

It was a great summer season last year and we are looking forward to an even bigger and better season this year with many new features and enhancements.

MiCPS-Summer 2011:

Sunday April 17th – Saturday August 13th

Leagues can always run outside the MiCPS dates but MiCPS points will only accumulate for rounds played between these dates.

New League Cut Off Date: June 15th 2011 – last day to add any additional leagues to the MiCPS-S 2011.

Wow – warmer weather. We can actually see grass in the fairways. A sign that the Winter Leagues are winding down.

This Saturday (Mar 19th) is the last day of the regular season for the Michigan Cooperative Point Series – Winter. After this date individual leagues may continue but the rounds do not get counted towards MiCPS-W points.

The last chance for Points is the MiCPS-W Grand Finale – celebrate the end of a great white winter season of disc golf leagues. This Saturday is also the last chance to register for the MiCPS Grand Finale. All registration money and some added money is going to be paid out. Everyone is going to get some payout based on your final point standing.
Ypsi Dubs players have the Ypsi Dubs League Pool money they are playing also playing for. Every qualified Ypsi Dubs player will get some of the League Pool money – Nice!

Two rounds of disc golf in better weather than we have had all season. New tee pads on the Chuck D and a few choice holes on the Picnic Courses will be in just for this event.

The MiCPS - Summer will be starting up in mid April. There are some new features in the works and based of feedback we are hard at work on a few tweaks to the points system. Thanks for everyone’s feedback and suggestions. For the players by the players.

Location: Independence Lake in Whitmore Lake, MI.

Format:
TWO ROUNDS OF GOLF
ROUND ONE: DOUBLES FOR DOUBLE POINTS
ROUND TWO: SINGLES FOR DOUBLE POINTS

ALL POINTS WILL BE ADDED AFTER THE TWO ROUNDS AND AN OVERALL WINNER WILL BE CROWNED AS THE STATE WINTER LEAGUE CHAMPION.

Payouts: All players will get paid based on overall points standings. Additional payouts for best combined score of the day will also be awarded.

Eligibility – You must be on the MiCPS-W 2010/11 Leader Board to register for the Finale.

Everyone will be playing 18 holes, followed by a final 9 for the top ten in points on the Picnic Course Safari layout.

We will see you all in the morning. Registration is 9:00-9:45 in the regular disc golf parking lot, near Chuck D hole 1.

Local Summer Disc Golf League Point Series

As someone who is helping to promote the fun, cooperative, challenging and competitive sport of Disc Golf through your clubs and leagues, you are invited to further unite with other local groups to take this even further and with no additional effort or cost.

The power is in the cooperative energy that the Point Series brings through connecting players and groups.

Take a minute to review the Point Series summary documents below. If your interested you just have to let us know and we can link your league and the energy will continue to grow. Ann Arbor Cooperative Point Series

The “Disc Golf League Players Union” is proud to present the first Ann Arbor Cooperative Disc Golf Point Series league to promote Winter fun for all us players, at a variety of our local courses, and bring our leagues and clubs closer together to cooperatively achieve bigger things for the players.

The Greens Keepers Disc Golf Club, Local 101 Disc Golf Player’s Union, and Ypsilanti Disc Golf clubs have come together and with the assistance of the Disc Golf Scene website have created a local Point Series to combine points from individual league rounds played at participating leagues.

League points are tracked in the individual leagues as previous and also accumulated here in the Ann Arbor Cooperative Point Series League from all participating leagues. Play one or play them all to maximize your points.

Double points if temp is 15 degrees Fahrenheit including wind chill or less.

Winter Aces are worth 50 extra points.

Special events for additional points are under discussion and will be posted throughout the Winter season.

The final event will be in March to crown the Point Series Champion and thaw out before the Summer Leagues begin.

NO Cost – free to all participating league players. For points to automatically transfer to the Ann Arbor Cooperative Point Series League you must be a registered player (have a profile) on the Disc Golf Scene, www.discgolfscene.com.
