Surprise 717FDC Monthly Mini!!

We heard your tears over the MDX cancellation and would like to offer a competitive opportunity that will be fun but has an ulterior motive. We are in the process of a full redesign of Whispering Falls. The end result is a tournament length track called Martins Mill. Each hole of Martins Mill is comprised of two smaller holes which will give us two more recreational length 18 hole courses that will be called Grist Mill and Saw Mill. Grist Mill, or the front 9 of Martins Mill, is just about ready for play testing. We would like to invite you to this event to compete but also to provide us feedback before some final decisions are made. The event will consist of an 18 hole round in the Grist Mill layout and a 9 hole 2nd round on the Martin’s Mill track.

What: 1.5 Rounds of competitive disc golf on the new layouts. 3 Divisions Open/Adv, Intermediate, Rec

When: Saturday June 18 2022.

Players Meeting at 0900. Tee off shortly thereafter

Where: The Falls. Meet at the parking lot between current 17 Tee and 16 Baskets

Why: Competitive but fun non-sanctioned event. We want to play the holes and figure out the problems we are not already thinking about

Cost: $5 ($4 to payout, $1 to club)

Warning: The course will be playable but still in first draft form. Baskets will all be installed but there will be temporary tee pads (Still refining locations and plan to install turf in the coming months). The fairways are still a bit rough on some holes but very playable. Be honest in your feedback but be kind. We want to hear your thoughts. Saying the course sucks isn’t helpful. Tell us why you think it sucks with specifics.

2022 Membership / League & Tournament Information

Happy New Year to everyone in the 717FDC. I hope you've had a good holiday season and have been getting some rounds in with the mild winter we've had so far.

Hard to believe but 2022 marks the 15th anniversary for the club. The growth we've seen over the past couple of years is astounding and we're excited to see where this year takes us.

MEMERSHIP INFO:

Membership is now open for 2022. If you're a new member wishing to join or an old timer looking to renew your membership with the club, please head over to the clubs website and fill out the membership form. http://www.717fdc.com/membership As in past years, being a member is required to participate in the weekly points league. You will also be invited to participate in a year end finale event. Since we are a PDGA affiliate club, club membership can also get you $5 off your PDGA membership (contact me for the discount code). All the other benefits are laid out on the membership page linked above. Tags have been ordered and are on their way. Rest assured, we will get one to you as soon as we can.

LEAGUE INFO:

2021 was a hugely successful year for the club. We saw more than double the participation from the previous year. We try our best to accommodate everyone and make leagues as enjoyable and competitive as we can. Our format is ever evolving and 2022 is no different.

For the 2022 season, we will be sticking with UDisc Leagues and the "Flex Start" format. We feel this was the main reason we saw the high participation numbers last year and want to continue this trend. Rounds may be played anytime from Friday thru Monday as long as your card contains 3 club members. In an effort to tighten up the points race and make things more competitive, this year we will be competing in divisions. When you check in for your league round, you'll be asked to select a division. To keep things simple we are using the same divisions as we used for the 2021 finale. Recreational/Novice (REC), Intermediate (INT), and Advanced/Open (ADV). Please choose the division you feel best suits your playing stye and competitive needs. If you're not sure what division you should play in, just ask. We'll try and guide your decision. And please, no sand bagging! This is supposed to be fun for everyone.

One weekend a month we will abandon the flex start format and hold a mini tournament at 1:00 on the Sunday of that weekend. The cost will be $5 ($1 to club, $4 to payout) with an optional $1 CTP. Payout will be by division and the number of payout spots will be determined by the number of participants in that division.

The full league schedule including the monthly Mini's will be published on the club's website on Mon. Jan. 17th.

This year the club will be hosting 4 sanctioned C-Tier Tournaments and 2 non-sanctioned tournaments. Mark your calendar's now with the following dates.

2/5/22 - Annual Whispering Falls Freeze (Ice Bowl). BYOP doubles tournament benefitting a local food bank and children's backpack programs.

4/2-3/22 - 15th Annual Whispering Falls Harvest. 2 round tournament at Whispering Falls. Sat. will be Pro/Adv/Int division. Sun. will be Rec divisions.

5/21/22 - 2nd Annual Rhodes Grove Rambler. The camp really appreciated the success of last years event and has invited us back for more.

6/18/22 - MDX8. The crosstown is back again this year in the 1 day format we tried last year. 1 AM round and either Ditto or the Falls. Travel to the other course for the afternoon round. Starting course will be determined by division anounced later.

8/27-28/22 - Ditto Duo. 2 round tournament at Ditto Farms. Sat. will be Pro/Adv/Int divisions, Sun. will be Rec divisions.

11/24/22 - Gobbler at the Grove. 1 round fundraiser tournament at Rhodes Grove. Proceeds will be split between the camp and another local charity.

We are guests on this property, and have worked hard to have a good relationship with them. We do not want to effect this relationship because of bad attitudes and selfish actions.

TL/DR: The 13th Whispering Falls Harvest is being postponed to October 17th 2020.

Due to the recent announcement extending the suspension of event sanctioning for Professional Disc Golf Association events through April 30, the 13th Whispering Falls Harvest has officially been postponed and rescheduled for October 17th.

I think many of you likely saw this coming and were expecting this, however I still apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. These are certainly unique and trying times for everyone, and I’m thankful that we have an organization that is doing their best to look out for the greater good, and we as a club intend to do my due diligence in the same efforts. 

What does this mean for you? 

If you are currently registered and wish to remain registered, you need not take any action other than updating your personal schedules and calendars. 

If you know for certain that you will not be able to attend on that day and wish for a refund, please contact me as soon as possible and I will process that as quickly as I can. I appreciate your patience and understanding. At this current juncture I will be giving cash refunds, however if there is a mass exodus of Am players we may have to adhere more strictly to the PDGA guidelines on refunds and offer a partial cash + player's pack option. I will make you aware of the current situation should the need arise.

If you do intend to play on the new date please DO NOT request a refund with the intention of signing up again later. I understand the hardship that may be caused by having your funds tied up for an extended amount of time, as we’re feeling it too. We have event stamped discs already and numerous other supplies purchased that may need to be reallocated. We will do our best to work with you, please contact me with any questions or concerns. Thank you for your understanding. 

Some of you may notice that we had previously scheduled Mason Dixon Team Matchplay for October 17th. Unfortunately with this schedule change we will most likely not be holding the matchplay event this year. I understand this will disappoint some, however this was the schedule shuffle with the least moving parts for all parties involved. Matchplay will return, if not on a different date in 2020 then in 2021.

In an effort to recoup some of our expenses for this event (and to get some sweet plastic in your hands!) I will be posting some discs for sale soon. Be on the lookout for that post!

Thank you all for your support of 717 and our events- it truly means a great deal. I look forward to seeing each and every one of you on the course again soon! Until then, be safe and be kind.

Given the recent White House advisement against gatherings and groups of 10 or more we have made the decision to suspend all leagues for the foreseeable future.

I understand this may seem like an overreaction to some, and may be frustrating, but at this point this is bigger and more important than disc golf.

We will post any updates and/or changes when they happen. Thank you for your understanding.

If you have time and desire to head out at your own leisure, the main areas of focus would be holes 8-10, 13-15, 19 at WF; Ditto holes 6-8, and 12-15 would be the spots to touch up.

Reminder that this Saturday May 18th is a fundraiser tournament at the beautiful Cove Valley course, 5357 Little Cove Rd. Mercersburg, PA.
Bring $20, and an extra $2 if you want to get in the ace pot. Sign in 7:30 - 8:30, players meeting at 8:45. One round longs, one round shorts. Bring a lunch and water. If you have any questions contact Joel.
