Surprise 717FDC Monthly Mini!!

We heard your tears over the MDX cancellation and would like to offer a competitive opportunity that will be fun but has an ulterior motive. We are in the process of a full redesign of Whispering Falls. The end result is a tournament length track called Martins Mill. Each hole of Martins Mill is comprised of two smaller holes which will give us two more recreational length 18 hole courses that will be called Grist Mill and Saw Mill. Grist Mill, or the front 9 of Martins Mill, is just about ready for play testing. We would like to invite you to this event to compete but also to provide us feedback before some final decisions are made. The event will consist of an 18 hole round in the Grist Mill layout and a 9 hole 2nd round on the Martin’s Mill track.

What: 1.5 Rounds of competitive disc golf on the new layouts. 3 Divisions Open/Adv, Intermediate, Rec

When: Saturday June 18 2022.

Players Meeting at 0900. Tee off shortly thereafter

Where: The Falls. Meet at the parking lot between current 17 Tee and 16 Baskets

Why: Competitive but fun non-sanctioned event. We want to play the holes and figure out the problems we are not already thinking about

Cost: $5 ($4 to payout, $1 to club)

Warning: The course will be playable but still in first draft form. Baskets will all be installed but there will be temporary tee pads (Still refining locations and plan to install turf in the coming months). The fairways are still a bit rough on some holes but very playable. Be honest in your feedback but be kind. We want to hear your thoughts. Saying the course sucks isn’t helpful. Tell us why you think it sucks with specifics.

League:

717FDC Singles League

In order to participate in this years league rounds, we require all members to purchase a membership tag for $10. Proceeds from this tag purchase will go in to payouts for a year end finale. Tags are in the process of being made. Membership fees can be paid to me and I will work with you to get you a tag as soon as I can. I would prefer PayPal but can/will accept Apple Cash, Venmo, or good ole cash.

We had great success with running our leagues through UDisc last year and we will continue with the use of that application this year. We understand that not everyone can make it out for a regularly scheduled league round on Sundays, so this year we’re expanding our weekly league to a “Flex Start”. League rounds will be scheduled in UDisc and weekly rounds can be played anytime between 7AM Fridays - 7PM Mondays. Minimum card size should be 3 league members to form a card. You are welcome to play with as many more than that as you are comfortable (Mob golf anyone?). Decide on your own day to play and starting time and go out and score your round through the UDisc Events tab. Unlike last year, we will not be able to check everyone in ahead of time, so you will be responsible to check yourselves in when you play the round. If there are any scoring errors on your card, please report them to me as soon as possible before the close of the league round on Mondays.

This year, leagues will once again be a points only system with no weekly buy-ins. With the expansion to flex start, collecting and distributing weekly $$ would become increasingly difficult. There was also a lot of interest from some club members I spoke with last year to keep it a points only system this year. I know this may be a point of contention for some of you, but this is the way we are going to run the club league this year.

(and to be honest 10+ years of whacking hole 3 and 10 in the August heat when it hasn’t been touched in months is enough)

Look for details on the 2019 tag season to be posted soonish, but expect it to be much the same as this year, if not better. The biggest change being the implementation of a split schedule in an effort to allow more people to play more often.
-Sunday Singles rotation will be:
Whispering Falls/Rhodes Grove/Ditto Farms
(1st and 3rd Sundays @ 9AM;
2nd, 4th & 5th Sundays @ 1:45P)
During the weeks that Rhodes Grove is closed to the public we will use Wilson College on Sundays. Changes will be reflected on the dgscene schedule.

Given the overwhelming success of the tag league format, overall club goals, and the direction and discussions of club leadership we are excited to announce that will be implementing a similar format for 717 Doubles this year. Rather than two separate nights/courses we will be moving to a single night (Tuesday) three course rotation, with a year-end finale that is boosted through weekly participation. Pretty much the same as our singles league this season, however with doubles for double the fun.

This does unfortunately mean that our respective leagues will no longer be participating in the Freestate Flyers doubles series, however we believe it is a better fit for our club to run a more “club-centric” doubles series.

-Tuesday Dubs rotation will be:
Ditto Farms /Whispering Falls/Rhodes Grove
(5:15P until posted otherwise)
During the weeks that Rhodes Grove is closed to the public we will use Ditto on Tuesdays. Changes will be reflected on the dgscene schedule

We will have “Tuesday Dubs course TDs” for each respective course (they will post layout info if applicable, handle the draw, payouts, and report scores to the league director- Dustin Smith), however the format will be the same as previous years.
Course TDs will be:
Ditto: Walter Ridenour
WF: Scott Pohl
Rhodes Grove: Brad Lescalleet
Matthew McDaniel, Philip Miller, Russell Johnston, and Dustin will serve as backup TDs. *If you are interested in assisting with TD responsibilities please let us know- we’d love to have more people involved. Everything we do and will continue to do is very much committee ran. Many hands make light work.

Entry will be $3 to play, $1 of which goes to the club and $2 to nightly payout, with the optional $1 nightly CTP and optional $1 league ace pot. The $1 to the club is what will be used to fund the season finale. Aces may not be paid out on the night they are hit, dependent on the attendance of the league director.

We will use the following points system for yearly standings:
3- win
2- 2nd
1- 3rd
1- attendance
1- every team you finish above
1- CTP
10- Ace
