Thanks again to everyone who came out to play today! I hope you all have enjoyed the past few years of disc golf, as we have grown as players, a club and as we have all watched the sport grow in exponential ways.

Players are the strongest foundation for disc golf so keep on playing and support your local clubs, keep the growth alive and let's keep pushing the boundaries for what this sport can be.

Stay tuned over the next few months as we step away and the "new kids on the block" take over as a new club picking up where we left off. They will need your support as they grow both as players and a club. We wish you all the best and look forward to seeing everyone out on the course!!!

To those of you who sat down with me a few weeks ago to hash out the future of CDGA, I would advise all of you to be out for Lincoln Logs. The future of this club is riding upon the level of commitment you display. So far some are already starting to falter and we cannot coincidentally turn this club over if failure has already begun. Please be out so you can see what it takes to run this. The option for dissolve is still a real possibility. I hate to be so frank with this, but it needs to be heard.

Yesterday morning Gerrit Douma passed away at the ripe old age of 84. Prior to this year he was the man that mowed the back 9 at Lincoln Park on the big John Deere tractor.

Over the past few years he helped out the CDGA on many occasions with extra mowing and by giving the CDGA a great deal on mowing above and beyond his contract with the city.

He will be missed.

It is with heavy hearts that we are posting this news today. One of our dear friends passed away this weekend. Ryan Rose was an avid disc golfer and supporter of The CDGA. Want want to extended our deepest condolences to the Rose/Klemanski family for their loss. Our upcoming event The LP Open will be a benefit for Ryan's family. We want to encourage all to come out and play on April 27th. We will have a number of things going on that day, including a Basket Raffle with the proceeds going to Ryan's family. We are going to have free lunch as well and a donation jar for Ryan's family along with a few other things to commemorate him. So please share this post on your walls and spread the word. Lets fill up this event and honor Ryan by letting the plastic fly.

Just want to shout out one last time about our BIG weekend coming up! Saturday the 28th Discraft is hosting a Pro Clinic @ Lincoln Park 1pm. This is a great chance to come out and pick up some tips from the pros. Remember this is no cost to you, all you have to do is show up! There will be freebies and prizes along with some doubles following the clinic and food will be available as well! Sunday the 28th is the L.P. Open, our first sanctioned event of the year. We have 50 custom stamped super color discs for the first 50 to show up and pay their registration fees. We will have an assortment of good plastic available for those who miss out on the Supercolor discs. 2 rounds of 24 holes w/ ctp's an ace pool and 50/50. Along with a basket raffle, and lunch will be available on site. Free coffee and doughnuts in the morning! Registration begins @ 8 am and goes until 9:30, tee off at 10. Lastly our summer league begins Tuesday May 1st. If you havent signed up yet now is the time! 18 weeks of golf, custom shirts if you submit your paid registration by the 1st of may! I would like to invite everyone to have a voice. We have a decision to make this year on how we hold the L.P. Open. CDGA is trying to figure out the best way to run the event. Last year we did a duel location event with the first round being played in Charlotte and the second round in Potterville. This year we can stay with the same format or we can create a new format with both rounds being played in Charlotte only. As request at the end of year awards, I have been asked to let everyone know about the Charlotte Rotary Club's Holiday Hoopla. The event will be held this weekend (October 23rd) @ 6:30 pm. Tickets will be sold at the door at a price of $15 at St. Mary's Church Activities Center. Money raised will go towards the building of the pavilion down to Lincoln Park including bathrooms! Thanks to everyone for bringing all the great food - I'd have felt way worse Sunday morning if I had not eaten as much as I did during the course of the evening. I'd also like to mention that I had the least amount of left over beer Sunday from any keg I have ever bought. We polished off 13.5 gallons of Oberon Saturday night!!! That's an accomplishment! Way to go team!

I would also like to thank you all for electing me as the club president. I hope that I can live up to the standards that Jeri and Mike have set for me. I don't think there is a better, more organized club in Michigan and I hope to help keep it that way. I know there is no club with a better group of people than we have and we can accomplish anything we want if we work together. Feel free to tell me if something is concerning you and I'll do my best to make it right.

Sounds like the Ace Race this year is gonna be a blast, especially running a mid-range prototype disc at the basket! One more reason to get your pre-registraion up on the scene! Ace Race time is just around the corner! Last year we had 60+ come out to have a great time. For those who are new to the event. An Ace Race is not a traditional disc golf tournament. It is geared for disc golfers of every skill level! Every one gets two of the same disc and has many opportunities to make an ace. Beginers and pros alike are encouraged to come out and play. For 25 bucks its a awesome value. So bring everyone you can to this event. Just make sure you pre-register yourself and anyone you plan on bringing with you. You can pre-register by clicking the link abouve that says "Ace Race". Jumbo putts for extra prizes at the end of the tournament as well. This is a fundraiser event and designed to bring awarness to the sport so please come join the fun. September 12th 2010 @ Lincoln Park in Charlotte.

It's nearly that time of year again! Summer leagues are getting ready to start! May 1st is the first day of summer leagues, we are currently drafting the registration forms for this years league. We will be offering both tee times again this season, both 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Our format will be 18 weeks long. You have to play 12 weeks to qualify for a payout at the end of the season. We will not be offering pay per day this year, so you must pay in full before you can become a league player. With your entry fee, you will get a Custom Dry Fit T-Shirt, as long as you are registered by May 1st, your name will go on the shirt as well! If you register after the 1st of May we will still offer a disc or gift cert to Skidmore's Village Cycle Shop. We have berths for this years summer league also, divisions Am 1 and Am 2 will be the qualifying divisions for this years league. We will be sanctioning the first portion of our summer league, a new format offered by the PDGA. How does this affect you? You will be able to choose, when you register, if you want to be a part of this or not. If you do not have a PDGA number or are not an active member(meaning you have not renewed your membership this year) then this will not affect you in any way. The advantages are, your scores will be tracked and posted on the PDGA's website, as well as giving you a much more consistent player rating as well. The extra cost to you is only a $1 a week for the 8 weeks we will be sanctioning our leagues. So that's an extra $8 total for the summer! Registration fees this year for the summer league will be $35 dollars, an additional $8 if you want to be a part of the PDGA Sanctioned portion that's $43 total if you decide to take part in it, AGAIN THIS IS UP TO YOU THE REGISTERING PLAYER. If you do not want to be a part of it, no worries, the choice is yours, you just have to be current with your PDGA fees. As soon as the forms are available we will let you know, you will be able to register at Skidmore's or you can speak with one of the CDGA board member's as well. The Charlotte Rotary Club is hosting Holiday Hoopla!, a goods and services silent auction fundraiser, at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 7 at St. Mary Catholic Church, 123 St. Mary Blvd., Charlotte.

The Charlotte Rotary Club has taken the initiative to enhance the Charlotte Area Parks and Recreation facilities by committing to construct a $100,000 pavilion/restroom facility in Charlotte's Lincoln Park. Currently, Lincoln Park offers a skateboard park, Frisbee golf, volleyball courts, and a winter ice skating rink.

Holiday Hoopla! activities will include a silent auction, raffle, door prizes, Taste of Charlotte hors d'oeuvres, cash bar, live music with Blind Ambition, and a dance performance by Dancing Deputies.

Three new holes have been added at Lincoln Park! They are on the back, and we suggest playing them in this order: 12, 13, A, 14, 15, B, C, 16-18. They are dirt pads for now, with an orange-painted timber marking the front of the pad. Signs will be forthcoming, and concrete hopefully next year.

Also, the pin location for holes 10, 12, and 15 have changed!

Alright everyone! A winter league is coming... Going to keep it fairly informal this time around. Ten dollars per player, no players packs and a dollar into the ace pool. No player divisions, handicaps this time around as well. Everyone who played a full twelve rounds for our summer league will have handicaps already established. If not it can be done within a couple of rounds into the league season. Saturday mornings at ten is the time slot and will be starting in November. We decided to rotate courses this time as well. We will start off at Lincoln Park for the first Saturday and rotate to a surrounding course for the next week and then back to Lincoln again. Should be lots of fun and we hope to see as many of you as possible. Great way to keep your arms hot through the winter!. Contact Mike Hubbel for any additional questions.
