The 2022 PDGA United States Amateur Disc Golf Championship is June 10 (Friday) - June 12 (Sunday). It is a PDGA Amateur Major disc golf tournament held on the Toboggan Course at Kensington Metropark. To help make the event run smooth, we need a minimum of 19 spotters on the course each day. If anyone can commit to working the event on behalf of the club, please contact me. The event will be covered by Crew 42 again and having spotters on the course not only helps the event run smoothly but people from afar will see how Michigan supports this PDGA Major disc golf tournament. We are fortunate to be able to play every Monday night at Firefighters Park in Troy, Michigan. Please remember, the course is open to all players on Mondays and Wednesdays, league and casual players included. With that said, if casuals arrive and want to play, it is their right to do so. They should follow the same rules that we do, fit in when an opening presents itself and do not destroy the course or litter. People playing in leagues should not tell casual players the course is closed, it is not.

In an effort to address the recent Spring Fling issues:

ISSUE #1: Sanctioning:
First and foremost, we apologize for the sanctioning issue and not updating the Disc Golf Scene (DGS) 2019 Spring Fling page. At the end of 2018, the Motor City Chain Gang (MCCG) addressed the increase on B Tiers that the PDGA put forth and we collectively decided we would keep the Motor City Open, a MDGO Featured Event, at Pro B Tier status and drop our other sanctioned events to Pro C Tiers. The first MCCG sanctioned event for 2019 was the March Mudfest. Sanctioning fees were paid to the PDGA on March 18, 2019 and the Mudfest was March 24, 2019. No one addressed the sanctioning change or the cash added before or after the event. Was it the right thing to do? In hindsight, no. The change should have been made before registration opened. The DGS Spring Fling, Firefighters Classic, and Motor City Open all should have been updated too. They all are now.

The Spring Fling and the PDGA sanctioning fees were paid on April 16, 2019 for the event scheduled on April 28, 2019. The 2019 Spring Fling DGS page was created long ago using the Copy / Paste feature which is common practice among Tournament Directors. With that being said, the details in the About section still reflected the 2018 PDGA requirement for a Pro B Tier at $500 cash added. The first Pro player signed up March 29, 2019. Almost a month later and 5 days before the event (April 23, 2019) is when we were made aware of the incorrect online information. We apologized for the oversight, updated the information, and offered refunds. No deception was intended. For any of those affected who know the Tournament Director, you know his honesty and integrity would never be questioned.

We clearly see how this caused confusion and have discussed this for many hours internally. The MCCG is in its 30th season. Our events are sellouts and fun to play in. Our leagues are full. We cannot thank the players enough for the years of support. We love that the Sport is growing and do many things to make sure all local players know where the summer and winter leagues are being played in our local area. We also provide significant donations to all events that request our support or to events that we attend. We provide a lot to the players and constantly look at ways to improve our events via the way we input scoring, add to the payouts, card winners for the summer events for all divisions, allow players to choose their CTPs rather than give away plastic that no one wants, provide cash CTPs for all of the Pro divisions, and shorten the fields to 18 holes so people can get home faster. Are we perfect … no. Have we made mistakes … yes. But that does not mean we do not take pride in what we do or try to give every player a good value for their trust in us.

So we are all on the same page, the 2019 Firefighters Classis is a Pro C / AM B Tier event. We are again adding $100 to the Pro field. The 2019 Motor City Open is a Pro/AM B Tier event and has $750 cash added to the Pro divisions. The About sections for both of these events were last updated Tuesday, April 30, 2019.

ISSUE #2: Missing Check-In vs changing the Tee Off time:
To address the issue of posting a schedule with times, we will no longer post a tee time when utilizing a shot-gun style format. We will continue to post check-in and players meetings times. It is the player’s responsibility to check in with the TD on time and be at the players meeting for all announcements which include what time tee off is. The Competition Manual rule that applies here is 1.04 Event Check-In. It states that any player who does not check in by the time specified by the Tournament Director shall forfeit their official place and entry fee. Exceptions will be made only at the sole discretion of the Tournament Director. Thankfully, this does not happen often. If it were me and I was running late, and being a TD on the other end, please, pull your vehicle over and call the TD and let them know your estimated arrival time before the posted Registration time ends. Anything after is too late and the TD is in process of starting the event.

As a team, and through input from many of the March Mudfest players, we changed the starting times for the Spring Fling immediately after the March Mudfest. When we host sold-out events, the earlier start times get the players on and off the course so everyone can get home at a decent hour in the late afternoon. Unfortunately, we included a tee-off time which proved to be an error on our part.

In the morning of the 2019 Spring Fling we understand the chain of events to be:
Registration was posted: 7:30 – 8:15 am
Players meeting was posted: 8:25 – 8:40 am
Tee Off was posted: 9:00 – 9:10 am, 9:00 if the DGS App was used.

Our TD stayed on schedule and executed the Check-in (Registration) and Players meeting on time as well as added in two players from the waitlist. He also went over the tournament procedures with the staff before the players meeting including CTPs and out-of-bounds to name a few. Five minutes later, and as advertised the players meeting began approximately 8:25 am. It was announce at the players meeting we would tee off at 8:45 am. Yes, the announced tee time at the players meeting was earlier than what was posted online. However, we kept the tournament moving forward using what information we had at that time. Check-in had come and gone, the players meeting was past us, and the players who were at the event were ready for competition. No one objected.

If a player shows up after check-in, after the players meeting, and after the two-minute horn and subsequent tee-off, then that player has the option to take par plus four for each hole that their playing group has either completed or finished teeing on. Unfortunately, this situation arose at the 2019 Spring Fling to arguably one of the nicest people we know and a club member. Was this a disappointment … absolutely!

Is this the first time a player missed check-in and was replaced? No.
Is this the last time a player will miss check-in in the future? For sure, the MCCG has two PDGA sanctioned events left on the 2019 schedule so we hope not.

We will stay with the earlier start time for the 2019 Firefighters Classic and 2019 Motor City Open. Hopefully, we will not experience any of these situations at our last two events. In this case the player and the TD are two of the nicest people in our sport and this was an unfortunate situation. The Facebook post, only listing one third of the scheduled times, only made the bad situation worse.

ISSUE #3: Not adding to the field of 69 players.
Yes, the 2019 Spring Fling was three players shy of a sellout.
The Check In times had passed. The Players Meeting had passed. The two-minute and tee-off horns had sounded. Play had already begun.
Someone walking in from the parking lot asked to play.
This person had not registered, was not on the wait list, missed the check-in, missed the players meeting, and missed the beginning of the tournament.
Even if he was allowed to play, he would have started the event with par plus four for each hole missed. At this time it would have been a minimum of two holes. As a TD, we always love when an event is a sellout. Adding a player who was not prepared to play after play began was not the right thing to do.

RECAP:
In general, any player can reach out to us before an event and discuss how we make groups, formats of play, or any other procedures. If during the conversation that player discusses a specific detail or process they prefer to avoid, we will do our best to make sure we can fulfil the requests as long as our decisions fall under the PDGA competition manual. Whatever the issue, whatever the circumstance, it is always easier to discuss the topic with those responsible calmly and rationally before the event. This type of communication allows us to make the appropriate update and provides a better outcome.

Our TD apologized online for the sanctioning confusion. We have never seen our TD act unapproachable or be rude to anyone. Our TD has committed to finish out the two remaining sanctioned events in 2019. Beyond that, his family responsibilities are beginning to mount and he needs to shift focus for 2020 and beyond. He will still be around playing league events. We support him in what he has done for us this far and his decision for his future. His experience and friendship is unmeasurable.

The MCCG has always attempted to provide a good event for all players. We pride ourselves on giving more than we take in and try to have a zero balance at the end of every season. Just because we have been around a long time or have a large membership following does not mean we have several thousands of dollars in the bank. We do have a nice selection of discs and disc golf items that are paid for so we can provide nice donations to anyone who asks.

To address transparency when so many question our club’s finances: remember, entry fees do not equate to our club’s financial status. Tournament entry fees do provide the revenue used to make the event a success.

2019 Spring Fling Finances:
Income:
PRO Entry fees = 100% payout minus only the $2 per player for C Tier PDGA Fees.
PRO Entry: $925 + $100 added - $40 (20 Pro players x $2) PDGA fees = $985
PRO payout = $320 (Pro), $335 (Pro40), $285 (Pro50), $45 (Pro Women) = $985

AM Entry fees: $1883

Expenses:
Addison Oaks Pavilion: $250
PDGA Sanctioning / Insurance: $75 B Tier + $50 Insurance = $125
Trophies: $150
Cash for Open and CTPs: $100 + $20 per division x 3 divisions = $160
AM CTPS: $50 (cost)
AM Players Packs: $420 (cost)
AM Payouts: $570 (cost)
PDGA Fees: $3 x 49 AM players ($147) + $2 x 20 Open players ($40) + $10 x 3 non PDGA fees ($30) = $217
Total Expenses: $1942

The above costs for the AM CTPs, AM Players Packs, and AM payouts reflect merchandise at our cost, not what we generally charge for a disc or shirt if someone was buying them. The cost for discs has gone up and additionally we are now being charged out-of-state tax by some manufacturers when applicable. Yet, we redeem AM Payout vouchers at a cost of $15 for ESP, Star, Z, Champ, Fusion, Plasma or all other premium plastics.

Everyone makes mistakes including us. We have always tried to make it right to those impacted. If we have apologized for a mistake and tried to make it right with the player and that player is holding on to the isolated incident, it is on that player. The majority of players leaving one of our events after cashing out know I personally always give them a deal and rarely waiver over a difference of a few dollars. That is the club speaking loudly and thanking all of you for what you bring to us!

Typical Monday night league start time is 6 pm however, early and late in the season, due to darkness, most leagues have an earlier start time than what is posted in the image below. Monday, October 10th is the last league week for the 2016 season. We averaged around 90 players a week this season so a huge shout out goes to all of the players for supporting the league this season, thank you!
Also, we would not be able to do this without huge sponsorship from Discraft, Innova, Gateway, Dynamic Discs, Latitude, and Westside Discs. These manufacturers provided us with weekly prizes we were glad to give away to you players.
Along with the Motor City Chain Gang CTP on Hole 9, the Brag Tag CTP, and the 50/50 CTP that is going to the Detroit Capuchin Soup Kitchen, we had plenty of free and cash prizes each week to give away.
This year we also had a special weekly prize donated by Damon Evans. Damon provided us with some sweet vintage plastic and we in turn gave one disc away each week to a lucky winner. Thank you Damon.
Also, our league night takes a lot of effort to get everyone through the registration table and on to the course each week. The team at the table always does a great job each week greeting people with smiles on their faces. Then, without any warm-up, they run to their cars to exchange the registration supplies for their disc golf bags to run to their respective holes to play. Dan James, Brady Diller, Nick Cookie, Brandon Dub, Samantha Gilbert, and Steve Brazel - we cannot thank you each week for the dedication you give us. Then following league play, Brady Diller inputs the scores into the spreadsheet (no easy task), posts them online, and emails them to Dan James who in turn prints them for the scoreboard at the park. Its a huge process but they do it seemingly effortlessly.
There are many others who do weekly things making our league night a success. Pat and Gloria Olheiser help with the scorecards, Mike Cook and Amanda Bennett have helped out when asked, Nate Buban has sat in for the Super Pool when Steve Brazel was out, and Mat Stivers brings the nets for holes 4 and 18 each week. Many weeks he has to retrieve hole 4's net before going home.
Our art for this years' Brag Tags and Shirts/Discs was done by Brent Sickel. Brent and his family moved to the dreaded state of Ohio and he will surely be missed. Thank you Brent.
A big shout out to these guys / gals as well.
Finally, the league packages will be at Firefighters on Monday, October 3rd and at the Finale tournament on Saturday the 10th. Once again, Damon Evans has a surprise for all of the league members this year so when you see Damon, give him a big hug for the extra trinket in your 2016 Motor City Chain Gang players package.

Our first week of the season will be tomorrow, Monday, April 11th at Firefighters Park in Troy!
For all of you hibernating disc golfers, let's get the discs out of the closet and get to it.

Registration begins around 5 pm and tee off slated for 6 pm.

For those who did not pick up their 2015 membership packages, I will have them with me for the first few weeks.

This year we will be running 24 weeks. Your (not mandatory) $25 membership gets you $1 off every week, the ability to get into the super pool, a club disc and tee shirt. This year, compliments of one of your league's founding fathers Damon Evans, we will also be giving away a mini with your club package. Thank you Damon!

Tomorrow's weather range will be just under 50 degrees at 5 pm down to just under 40 degrees at 9 pm. No Rain or Snow!
Sunset is just after 8 pm at this time of year so let's play a little quicker the 1st coupe of weeks.

The start of the 27th Motor City Chain Gang league will begin on Monday night, April 11, 2016 at Firefighters Park. Registration begins at 5 pm with a 6 pm tee time. We will play 24 weeks again this year. We will not play on the 3 Mondays that fall on Memorial Day, the 4th of July, or Labor Day. Once again we are fortunate to have many hole sponsors for all the players. WHAT WE WILL ACCOMPLISH AT EACH OF THE 26 EVENT WE WILL RUN THIS WINTER:
1. We will raise money and awareness for the Franziska Racker Center. This amazing organization helps people with disabilities and their families.
2. We will spread "Blue Power" (See below) and educate people about autism and encourage them to be proactive in their support.
3. We will introduce disc golf to people with special needs through our FREE special needs class before each event.
4. We will sell mulligans (up to 5 per player) at a cost of one can of food per mulligan. Our goal is to provide 2,500 meals this winter for those in need.
5. We will have fun playing disc golf and making the world a better place while having fun with our old friends while making new ones.

SCHEDULE:

10:00am: Bring Your Own Partner Doubles
After the event: Raffle and ring of fire

WHAT WE NEED FROM EVERYONE:
1. Come out to the event and play doubles.
2. Let anyone you know with special needs in your life about our free special needs class.
3. Come to the special needs class and volunteer your time to help, one on one with anyone who needs it. (Optional - But would love to have you)
4. Donations to the raffle and ring of fire.

WHAT IS BLUE POWER:
Blue Power is about knowledge and ending ignorance about autism. Everyone who comes to our events will leave knowing a little about this issue affecting millions around the world. Just like pink is the color of breast cancer, blue is the color of autism awareness. What makes Blue Power different is Blue Power isn't just knowledge, it's about being encouraged and empowered to act upon this new knowledge.
When someone has Blue Power they are encourage to do two things;
1. Share information about autism to others and help spread Blue Power.
2. Interact with people with autism and their families and help end the isolation they often feel.
Our goal is for everyone who plays disc golf to have Blue Power and through disc golf we will make the world a better place!

As the sun sets on 2014, we can take a look back at the club's 25th Anniversary season. Our tournaments were all amazing and we have goals set to make them even better in 2015. Our Monday night league play has been just as successful with more sponsors on board providing more free prizes for you players. Discraft, Innova, and Dynamic Discs are now weekly prizes (CTP's) to go along with the MCCG. Some new events were added like the River Bends Fundraiser, the 3 Sport Challenge, and the Tournament of Champions and each of these brought a certain level of success with them. A new local course opened at Bonnie Brook and River Bends (27 holes) and Stony Creek (2 18-hole layouts) are very close to completing their expansion projects. Also, the Sterling Heights project has started which took a lot of planning to get this far. Wolf Pack Discs has been a nice addition to our local community sponsoring players and our big events. The Sunnybrook Putting League is still a place to be during the Monday winter evenings. The BOBIS Saturday Doubles is going stronger than ever. The Wednesday Metro Detroit League is also seeing players attend in record numbers. The Tuesday (Brys), Thursday (Royal Oak), and Friday (Discin' at Stony) leagues are all bringing in record numbers and providing more opportunities for players to continue to improve their game every night of the week during the summer. Our Ice Bowl, coming up on January 11, 2015 found us finishing 7th in the world at $6400 last year. That number may be eclipsed this year. Total numbers we expect to surpass with this years' donations are to top $40,000.00 and 23,000 pounds of food. AMAZING!
So, to wrap this up, we would like to thank of course, all of our sponsors and local cities for allowing us to do what we do. None of the above could have been achieved without the people and supporting staff running the leagues, tournaments, clubs, or companies week in and week out. As a player, when you attend any of these disc golf gatherings, please be sure to thank those sitting in line for donating so much of their time organizing then posting the results so you can track your disc golf achievements. We broke ground today and will be working through the rest of the week. We have a skid steer rented and are blazing new trails towards a new 18 hole disc golf course. Thanksgiving Day will see a light crew out there working but all are welcome. Gloves, chain saws, tree clippers are all good choices to bring. We hope to be out there working by noon tomorrow, Wednesday, and will work until dark. Same for Friday. Saturday and Sunday we will be starting earlier. If you have some time, any day this week, feel free to stop on in and lend a hand.

Well folks, it looks like we are nearing the end of our 2014 Motor City Chain Gang's 25th Anniversary league. As we arrive at the park on Monday I hope to be passing out your membership packages. This year we had some great volunteers step up and take over some duties while we also introduced some new league weekly prizes. To compliment our:
MCCG weekly CTP for hole 9
Our MCCG Ace Pool
Our Super Pool to members only
And the Brag Tag weekly 50/50 on Hole 2
We introduced a:
$20 one-time per-Ace buy-in for members only
Dynamic Discs weekly prize disc CTP on Hole 5
Discraft's longest Putt prize disc on Hole 1
The TOC 50/50 on Hole 8
And the Innova Prize disc longest putt on Hole 18.
Providing these weekly league prizes is one tough task but even harder is getting people at the table to keep them all in order with taking names and distributing the prizes / cash. Once again, we are led with Dan James doing the brunt of the computer work along with Jeff Hildinger doing as much as he can. Chris Leo and Nick Cooke are usually at the head of the table along with Brady Diller, Steve Brazel, Mat Stivers, Mike Cook, Brent Sickel, Bernie Burnham, and Ryan Bauer when he can trek to this side of the world. Passing out cards and aligning your groups with the holes is Pat Olheiser. Please take the time this last week and thank the people sitting at the tables and doing whatever they can for their contribution week in and week out.

There is normally a lot of food, I mean a lot of food. Feel free to bring some side dishes or desserts. We will have dogs, burgers, chicken, and sausage. We will also have the nacho machine thanks to Pat and Gloria Olheiser. Did I say a lot of food. In addition to the tournament itself, 2 rounds of 18 holes with a lot of food in between rounds and after, we will be awarding the yearly league prizes too. Even if you cannot make the tournament, where there will be a lot of food, please come in the afternoon to get your league awards, get in on the raffle, maybe eat a bite or two, and cheer on the sandbaggers playing in the tournament. I did mention a lot of food, right?
I also want to take a second to thank you, all of the players, who show up every week and have a great time supporting the MCCG. THANK YOU!

We are introducing a new tournament this year and using it to crown the Champions of Southern Michigan. To be eligible to play in this event, you must have won a singles tournament within the State of Michigan, sanctioned or unsanctioned, within a year of the event itself. Since this years inaugural event is on September 27, 2014, you can go back in time a year for your eligibility to September 27, 2013. If you won an event within the State of Michigan, between the dates of September 27, 2013 - 2014, you can register at the link provided above.
As a special incentive to being crowned the Southern Michigan Champion, we have raised enough funds to add in $800 to the Open purse and $1200 to the Amateur merchandise. A special thanks goes out to Nate Buban who runs the BOBIS Saturday Doubles, Jeff Bauman from the Friday Night Discin' at Stony, Louis Caponi / Ted Stoebling from the Metro Detroit Disc Golf League (Metro Detroit's longest running league), and Mike Cook / Mat Stivers from the Motor City Chain Gang. These guys ran a 50/50 CTP every week during their leagues specifically for this event!
The cash will be added to the Open divisions while the Amateurs will get a cool players pack and more...

The River Bends Fundraiser will take place this Sunday, the 23rd it is switching places with the Three Sport Challenge that will take place at the end of October at Sunnybrook.

This fund raiser will benefit the Youth Special Olympics. Cost will be $20 per team, half of which will go to payouts and the other half towards the Youth Special Olympics. I am very sorry for this inconvenience but this week's BOBIS will see a change in venue. We will be playing at Firefighters this Saturday, November 16, 2013 instead of the previously scheduled Sunnybrook. This weekend’s format will be Random Draw.

Next weekend's event previously scheduled for Fox Creek may also see a change in venue. Please hang in there as I try to organize some of these final details.

We will try to secure the schedule as soon as possible.

As I stated the past few years, I am going through a transitional period and my ability to provide the quality of attention you guys deserve has not been up to what I believe it should be. Nate Buban has volunteered to begin to relieve me of running BOBIS. This is a huge burden of time Nate is volunteering for and with it comes a couple of ideas we have been thinking about. For instance:

A 1 time membership fee of $10 for those who care to join.

This fee will get you a BOBIS tee shirt or disc at the end of the year.

100% of the remaining funds from the membership will be rolled into the BOBIS Ace Race at the end of the year.

It will also allow you to enter each week a BOBIS Super Ace Pool of $4.

BOBIS would now be $5 to play, $1 Ace Pool for everyone, and a $4 BOBIS Super Ace Pool.

$10 all in for members per week.

The BOBIS Super Ace Pool will payout to members only 100%.

Each member must have at least 3 weeks in to collect any Ace Pool over $500.00

If they do not have the minimum # of weeks they would get 50% of the BOBIS Super Ace Pool.

The 1st 3 weeks we run this, everyone can enter the $4 Super Pool and win it all.

By the time December rolls around, it will be members only for the BOBIS Super Ace Pool.

The normal $1 Ace Pool will stay as is.

3 different full color discs - you may submit for 1 disc, 2 discs, 3 discs, or all 4.

2nd disc is Reed Park "The Vines" Hole 18

Here are a couple of ideas, Ti Comet and Ti Challenger. If your choice gets pick you will receive that disc. Here are the last two disc that were produced:

You must have played 8 weeks of league to qualify and be a club member.
You also need to let me know you want a berth by Monday 8/12 and which division you want to compete in at states. Please see me at league on Monday or send me a message with your name and division. The division is not necessarily your league division, it can be any division you are eligible to play in a pdga event.

Be on the lookout in all course parking lots for an older red Mercury Sable, license plate CHE 1095, driven by a white male, blue eyes, blond goatee and shorter hair, carrying a black backpack, and approximately 5'10". He looked in his early 20's and is known for making discs in his proximity disappear. He likes to call the number on the back of the disc, using a blocked number, just to rub it in that he has your discs and has no intentions on giving it back. The Gale Vaughn Memorial will be moved from River Bends and Stony Creek to be exclusively held at Addison Oaks. Meaning both rounds will be held there. It is being moved due to the flooding that has taken over River Bends that is hindering us from completing the course in time and allowing the park to cut the grass. River Bends still needs work to be done before it is completely ready for play, work has been done and is nearing completion.

If you already pre-registered and would like a refund due to the move in venue please contact I and I will gladly do that for you. Since Addison Oaks is now hosting the event it will be capped at 88 players. We will play at least 18 holes with the possibility of expanding it to 20 depending on the attendance.

If your curious to what divisions are playing what tee pads here they are:
All Pro and Advanced divisions will be playing Long/Long
Masters and Intermediate (MA2) Long/Short
All others will be playing short/short

Since there maybe out of county residents coming to play will see if they are willing to do a flat entrance fee if you are playing in the tournament. I can't guarantee this, only ask and see what they say.

As of Wednesday, May 22nd, the Toboggan Disc Golf Course located within the Kensington Metro Park will be open for casual play and tournament practice rounds. The Tournament Staff of the Discraft Great Lakes Open and United States Amateur Disc Golf Championships are asking that anyone planning on running an organized event at the course, be it a league or a tournament, to please contact a DGLO/USADGC staff member regarding this. The Tournament Staff are responsible for the course and the baskets and as such as a courtesy we are requesting to be informed of the activities that are taking place there. You cooperation is greatly appreciated in this matter.

If you are planning on playing a causal round we ask that you respect the course and pack out anything that you brought to the course, except for the occasional lost disc that is! In addition, we please ask that you help keep this jewel of a course clean and pick up any trash that has found its way out there.

This course is hosting a PDGA National Tour event and a week later one of the most prestigious Amateur events on the tour. Very soon we will have many of the premier players in the world out on the course playing and we want to be able to put our best foot forward. We want to highlight to the world what Michigan Disc Golf is all about. You can have a direct impact in this and we hope that you can assist us.

There are AM tee pads on almost every hole but the course itself still plays very, very long.

While many of us will be at Firefighters Park kicking off the 2013 league, the City of Sterling Heights is planning on a budgeting meeting. Go figure, it would be on the same night. Regardless, please tell all of your friends, girlfriends, wives, family members, or neighbors about this meeting. If anyone can spare an hour to visit this meeting and make sure they are seen regarding the proposed disc golf course at Nelson Park South, we may be able to get them to budget some funds. Jeff Norgrove will be there representing us and he thinks we stand a good chance as there are very few developmental projects going on this coming year.
There will also be a Park meeting tomorrow night but that will be a much longer meeting and they will in turn have to ask the Bidget Committee anyways. Being at tonight's Budget Meeting will be more beneficial so please help spread the word. The meeting will be at the Sterling Heights offices near the Police and Court buildings on the west side of Dodge Park.
I may have a petition to sign at tonight's league. If Jeff's girlfriend can stop by to pick it up from us as league starts, she may be able to bring it to him as the meeting gets under way. For those of you playing league tonight, see you all there.

Day 1: Starting tomorrow night, March 8, 2013, is a brand new event. Introducing the Sunnybrook Pro / AM Glow Doubles. This will be a 5 week short lived attempt at getting to know Glow at Sunnybrook. BOBIS SATURDAY DOUBLES starts tomorrow, Saturday, November 10th at River Bends. Registration begins at 12:30, Tee off is at 1 pm. It is a random draw format doubles. $5 per person and $1 progressive Ace Pool. The $5 per person is a 100% payout for the top 1/3 teams and the Ace Pool grows until someone hits it.

This Sunday, November 11th, 2012 is the 10th annual Stone Cold. It will be played at the brand new PERMANENT Sunnybrook Disc Golf Course.

Below are some of the details:
$150 added cash is just an estimate, We've averaged about $200 added.
When: Sunday, November 11th, 2012
Where: Sunnybrook Disc Golf Course Sterling Heights, MI.
Format: Singles, Stroke Play. 1 Round of 18 Holes and a Final 9
Registration: 8:00 - 9:00am Player's Meeting: 9:00am

The entry fees per division are:
$35: Pro + $15 merchandise (something youd have in your bag)
$30: Advanced Am's
$25: All other divisions (3 plyrs min)

All entry fees include $15 for greens fees, colf carts and at least 1 cash side bet.

The merchandise from the Pros will be used for the AM payouts. The Pro and AM entry fees will fund the payout for the Pros. We average over $200 added to the pro purse every year. Payout goes to the top 1/3 and (maybe) plus one. The merch payout for the AM's depends on what AM players show up for which divisions.

Sunnybrook Indoor Putting 2012 / 2013: Monday, November 5, 2012 we will begin our 4th season of the Sunnybrook Putting League.
Registration begins around 5:30 pm. Cost is $5 per person. 100% payout.
We are currently short two baskets but I expect their arrival tomorrow.
We also need to assemble at the minimum two baskets and retrieve baskets 9 and 18 from their stumps out on Sunnybrook's disc golf course. Any assistance here would be greatly appreciated.

Oh by the way, yes, you read that last sentence correctly. We have installed a permanent course at Sunnybrook. You can now go there and play a casual round of disc golf when they are not running leagues. The course is long. You can rent carts. You can, in between the front and back 9, warmth, something to eat, something to drink, or take a restroom break. The cost is $5 per person and/or $15 per cart for 18 holes. 2 players can play here and rent a cart for $25. Enjoy the course but remember, they are golf carts and not go carts :-) ! This years Stone Cold will be played here at Sunnybrook, Sunday, November 11, 2012, so sign up early.

More changes are coming to River Bends through the winter and into next spring so stay tuned and pardon our dust.

All of the food will be supplied but you can always bring a dish, a dessert, or whatever you want to add to the buffet!
Registration begins at 8 am to 9 am followed by a short players meeting then some golf.
After both rounds have been played and while you are munching on food we will have the tournament AND league awards.

A quick note about the league play that just ended:
24 weeks spanning April 9th to October 1st, except Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day.
Average players per week: 120
That is right, we averaged 120 players per week for 24 weeks, WOW!
Smallest week turnout: Week 4, April 30th, 77 players
Largest week turnout: Weeks 6 & 9, 137 players

Hello all, back by popular demand is Steve's Super Safari league. The league will start on the first Monday after the MCCG league ends. On week one we will be playing all of the odd tees to the even baskets.

It will be held for 2 Mondays, beginning October 8th and ends the following Monday, October 15th, 2011. We may add one more week (October 22nd) if enough people want to play a third week.

Registration begins between 5:30 and 5:50 pm. Tee off at 6 pm.

The ROYAL OAK OPEN ONLINE REGISTRATION on the Scene is now available.

The Motor City Chain Gang will be hosting this event held at Starr-Jaycee and Wagner Parks in Royal Oak, Michigan. The event is proud to have Justin Garrison and Gary Hutchinson from the Royal Oak Disc Golf league as Tournament Directors.

Registration is between 8am and 9am at Starr-Jaycee Park on 13 Mile Road (just east of Crooks).
The Players meeting is shortly after with tee-off scheduled for approximately 9:15ish am.

Format is 1 Round of 18 holes at Starr-Jaycee Park with a short lunch break followed by the 2nd 18 holes played at Wagner Park.

The field will be capped at 72 players.

Registration online closes tonight and to ensure you get a players package and can play on Saturday, you must pay in advance. There will be a GRAND OPENING tomorrow morning @ 10 am followed by a Clinic sponsored by Play It Again Sports.
The 1st 20 who register at [email redacted] will receive a new disc.
Myself, Jeff Bauman, and a few friends will be conducting the brief clinic followed by a short round through this very short 9 hole course.
A brief overview: 1 - 3 are in the deep woods. The shots are short and ace-able.
Hole 3 is a true Ace Run hole. Very narrow, low ceiling, short in length.
Holes 4 - 6 feature their toboggan hill. Tee pads 4 and 6 are on the top of the hill and face east and west respectively. Hole 5 is south of the hill.
After a long walk through the woods, Hole 7 is half in the woods at the tee box and half out in the open near the basket.
Hole 8 is in the open but behind a small bush.
Hole 9 is in the open and another Ace Run. Not as short as 3 but more open.

A map to the park is on the flyer but a quick description:
The park is a quarter mile west off of Southfield Road and on the south side of Beverly Drive (13 1/2 Mile).

4. 780' / 420' (AM) Pro tee on a bridge. Water left 1st shot, water right 2nd shot
5. 530' / 330' (AM) Basket set on the edge of a VERY reachable pond. Don't be short!
6. 222' Ace shot - Basket in the center of 3 pines
7. 812' / 550' (AM) Basket perched on a hillside. OB left. 2nd shot can get wet.
8. 250' Righty Anhyzer in the woods. Don't be left.
9. 1020' Second shot water hazard stream, basket on top of a hill by Van Dyke.
10. 675' Throwing from a tee box by Van Dyke over water.
11. 550' Basket sandwiched in between 2 trees/
12. 506' Triple Mando 400' off the tee. Uphill into the wind. Mando between 2 trees under banner.

TJ YELLAND

(Timothy Jason) of Waterford, died April 15, 2012. He was 31. “TJ” was born February 6, 1981 in Pontiac, Michigan to the late Thomas D. Yelland and Nancy (nee: Schemanske) Yelland. He is survived by his mother Nancy Yelland; fiance’ Kerri Pfaffenberger; one sister, Kimberly (Neil) Dobson and his Aunt, Shirley (Rick) Skomial. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Mary and Erwin “Red” Schemanske and Ruth Yelland. “TJ” was a 1999 graduate of Waterford Mott High School, a member of labor union #687 as a Carpenters Apprentice and was employed at Brand Scaffolding. He loved sports, especially baseball, golf and disc golf. He was a member of the Professional Disc Golf Association, the Motor City Chain Gang and an avid Detroit Tiger fan along with his fiance' Kerri as they were to celebrate their wedding at Comerica Park in November.

Visitation : Family will receive friends on Friday, April 20, 2012 for a memorial visitation from 4 to 8 p.m.

We have worked it out where we can move the Sunnybrook Spring Fling from a one day event (Sunday, April 29, 2012) to a two day event. We will follow the rest of the state's two day format and will host the following divisions on the following days:
April 28, 2012, Saturday: MPM, MA1, MA3, MG1, Juniors
April 29, 2012, Sunday: MPO, MPG, FPO, FW1, MM1, MA2, MA4

Hopefully, this will allow more people to play the event and for some, they can play both days in different divisions as long as their age and rating align with where they play. We hope this only adds to what is already a great event. Online registration will be available very soon. Stay tuned...

League starts this Monday, April 9 and will run through the first week of October.

We made a few changes to the handicap formulas this year. The primary goal was to break up the very large AM2 division a little and move some of those players back to AM3 which had much less participation last year. Those folks that average around 56-58 should consider playing AM3 this year, even if they played or were 'bumped' to AM2 last year.

PRO, Change scratch from 43 to 44. Maximum handicap from -6 to -5.
AM1, Scratch stays 48. Maximum handicap from -6 to -5.
AM2, Change scratch from 53 to 52. Maximum handicap from -6, to -4.
AM3, Change scratch from 58 to 56. Maximum handicap stays at -6.
No change to Master's or Women's formulas.

Thanks to Brent Sickle for his input and to Jeff Hildinger for implementing the updates to the calculations.

The 9th Annual FREEZEBEE Ice Bowl event will be played this coming Sunday, January 8, 2012 at Firefighters Park in Troy, Michigan.
The Motor City Chain Gang is hosting this fundraiser benefitting the Detroit Capuchin Soup Kitchen.
Our 2012 donation goals are to raise $5000 and 3000 lbs of food

Details for the event are:
Registration / Check-in is at 9:00am - 9:45am with Tee off approximately at 10:00am
This is a singles format where we will be playing 18 holes and a final 9.
Entry for the event is $25.00 for all Open players plus 2 new discs or $10 which will be used for prizes and $20.00 for all of the AM divisions.
Mulligans are $5 each. The limit for the Open players is 3 Mulligans while the AMs can purchase a max of 7.
100% of the Mulligan sales will be included in the cash donation.
We will also have a 50/50 CTP, an Ace Pool, and a raffle.
So far in the raffle we have a pair of Red Wings tickets (donated by Nick Cooke) and the last Nick Lidstrom autographed disc.

Our 2011 efforts left us 10th (out of 233) in the country with $4650 raised and also 3570 lbs of food!
We have been able to achieve these great numbers because of all of you, the players.

Please bring in non-perishable food items to donate. Players will receive a raffle ticket for every five cans of food brought in (limit 10 tix).
The player that brings the most food will win a special Ice Bowl prize.

It should be in the uppers 20s when we start off but hitting a balmy mid 30s by the afternoon so the hot chili will definitely hit the spot!

Donations of new or slightly used discs, disc golf merchandise, or disc golf accessories will be accepted to add to the raffles and to sweeten the payouts.

The Motor City Chain Gang will be hosting this event held at Starr-Jaycee and Wagner Parks in Royal Oak, Michigan. Once again, Gary Hutchinson and Justin Garrison from the Royal Oak Disc Golf club will be the Tournament Directors.

Registration is between 8am and 9am at Starr-Jaycee Park on 13 Mile Road (just east of Crooks).
The Players meeting is shortly after with tee-off scheduled for approximately 9:15ish am.

Course layout: We have been fine-tuning Raintree for years specifically for this event. Our layout is very fair for players of all caliber. C'mon out, you will have a blast!
Proposed course layout:
Hole 1: 80'
Hole 2: 90'
Hole 3: 100'
Hole 4: 128'
Hole 5: 116'
Hole 6: 131'
Hole 7: 95'
Hole 8: 75'
Hole 9: 94'

Rules of play: Players are required to use the player package discs, and only one of the discs provided the day of the event. If a disc is lost, the player has the option of using the second disc from the package. Only one throw per player per hole. All groups will have a scorecard and mark "A" for aces (a hole-in-one) and "M" for holes on when someone hits metal.

After all players in the group have thrown, discs are picked up and the group moves directly to the next tee. We use an alternating tee box meaning if you tee off first on one hole you move to last on the next and the person who threw 2nd behind you now throws 1st. The same rotating format follows each hole thereafter.

The player with the most aces after 36 holes is declared the winner. In case of ties, the number of metal hits is used as a tie breaker. If a tie persists, a closest to the pin contest is then used to determine the event winner.

We have had huge crowds in the past but the event flows very smooth and is over in a blink of an eye. I started keeping track of this event in 2007 with 76 players, 66 in 2008, 66 in 2009, and 92 last year. Could we reach 100 in 2011?

Prize package:
Grand prize for each event is a Discraft merchandise package, including a bag and eight new discs. Events are also encouraged to offer an optional cash side pot for those who wish to participate, which is divided proportionally among the number of aces and/or metal hits.

Once again the event headquarters will be at Oakland University in Auburn Hills, Mi.
MANDATORY CHECK IN at Oakland University between 8-9 am for all divisions.

The 2012 GVM is a PDGA B Tier event (both Pros and AMs) and will have over $2000 in Cash and Merchandise added.
A minimum of $600 added to the Pro OPEN payout.
We will be playing 18 holes each at Stony Creek Metropark and Oakland University.

2011 marks our 5th year of the Motor City Brag Tag Challenge! As always, 100% of the funds raised go into the course improvement fund. The 2011 Tags will be awarded at the Crosstown Classic tomorrow for those who wish to purchase them ($10 per) based on the 2nd round of play at Wagner Park. If we have to use both courses (more than 36 players attend) then the purchased Tags will be based off of the total score from both rounds.
Tags will be also available for purchase on Monday at the Sunnybrook Putting League and again at the March Mudfest. See Bernie for more details...
We have been able to do many positive course improvement projects through the funds raised from the Brag Tags through the years. This is because of your desire to participate and many long hours of planning and being available at the courses by Bernie and the rest of the Brag Tag committee, Ryan Chim Chim Bauer, Brent Sickel, and myself.

Where: Sunnybrook's TEMPORARY Disc Golf Course on their ball golf course.
Baskets: We currently have 16 quality baskets plus a couple of extras for practicing on.

Thats right, a disc golf tourney on a ball golf course!

Format: 2 Rounds of 18 Holes - BYOP DOUBLES!
Registration: 8:30 - 9:30am
Player's Meeting: 9:45am

Divisions (3 Teams min):
PRO OPEN - $80 / Team
Big Arm Ams (AM1) - $70 / Team
Old Arm Ams - $60 / Team
Weenie Arm Ams (AM3) - $60 / Team
Mixed Dubs Ams - $60 / Team

Entry includes Cart Rental, Lunch, and
a small donation to the Capuchin Soup Kitchen.

The Motor City Chain Gang will be hosting this event held at Starr-Jaycee and Wagner Parks in Royal Oak, Michigan.

Registration is between 8am and 9am at Starr-Jaycee Park on 13 Mile Road (just east of Crooks).
The Players meeting is shortly after with tee-off scheduled for approximately 9:15ish am.

Format is 1 Round of 18 holes at Starr-Jaycee Park with a short lunch break followed by the 2nd 18 holes played at Wagner Park.

Well folks, as we break for the Labor Day weekend and the Michigan State Championships in Ludington we are still working on a few annual events that help bring the end our summer to a great close. The Discraft Ace Race will be held once again at Raintree Park on September 11th. See www.MotorCityChainGang.com to pre-reg (a MUST if you want to participate).
The following weekend on September 19th is the 12th Annual UTNAC Invitational.
If you have ever participated in a UTNAC Invitational you know it is a great event to play in.
Cost is $60 per person which includes your daily course wrist band (if needed), a Steak lunch, a Z Nuke, and a towel. There are other great prizes and raffles and a couple of different Ace Pools ;-). Pre-Registration for the State Championship ends on Aug 27.

Unfortunately, I was planning on giving out our league berths on 8/30.

We need to pull this ahead to this coming Monday 8/23.

Requirements to win a league berth are:
a) must be an MCCG member as of now
b) must have 8 weeks of league play in as of now
c) must let me know at or before the begining of league on Monday 8/23 that you want a berth. I need name and division you will be playing at Ludington (does not need to be the same as your league division).

I will award the berths at the end of league this Monday night.

Post your name here if you want a berth and meet the criteria above, but will not be at league this Monday.
I will post the winners here as well.

We changed the courses and played Stony, Oakland University, then Firefighters.
The grass at River Bends was rumored to be too high to play in an event like this.

We had 38 players begin in the over 90 degree weather and 36 players finished.
Congratulations to all - quite a feat.

The scores have been posted but the other winners are:

If you cannot make Thursday Double in Royal Oak please consider making it out for this event. The goal is to have many disc golfers on hand for the official opening providing a strong presence while the city official boast about their first disc golf course on that side of town.

This event is to honor the good times we were privileged to share with our friend Guy Gravitt.
Registration begins at 11 am at Firefighters Park in Troy, Michigan.
Entry Fee is $20 per person.
1 round of 18 holes beginning around 12:15.
100% of the raffle and entry fee plus the two halves of the 50 / 50 goes to the Gravitt family.

The below discs were all donated.
The CE Firebird and CE Valkyrie were both Guys. Steve Sevonty provided us with them and they will be the last 2 prizes awarded in the raffle.

More discs are arriving every day and here is how we will pass out all of the donated prizes.
We will have a CTP and a Longest Putt contest on each of the 18 holes.
Each CTP and Longest Putt will be awarded one of the disc packages below minus the CE ones, 34 total.
We will not be awarding a CTP disc package on Hole 2 and Hole 13 as they will each be separate 50 / 50 CTP'$.
We will be holding a raffle for the extra donated discs and other prizes I dare not mention online ;-) !
We will also be awarding a disc for the lowest round of the day.
We will also be holding an Ace Pool.
And to honor Guy and his love for the Big Arms, we will be holding a Longest Drive competition!

Bring your own partner to this unique event which will feature teams playing head to head in 9 hole matches.

Please post up in the talk section if you intend to play.
We need even numbers of teams, and 8 teams per division is best for the tournament style afternoon rounds.

Registration begins at 8 am.

A set of keys was returned to me today by Ed. The key faub has 4 buttons and I am assuming it is a GM because the car key is a Chevy.

It is on a key chain that has a green tube about 2" long and reads:
NORTH AMERICAN INDIAN AS
Detroit, MI 48239-1327

The numbers are a little worn so they may not be that accurate.

The key chain also has another key (maybe a house key) with a red spider on one side and a blue Spider Man on the other.

Finally, and probably the most important detail is a 3" brown plastic beer bottle bottle opener.

The 2010 Bobis Ace Race was held yesterday, April 3, 2010 at the Auburn Hills Civic Center.

We had 36 players participate. We added in the $61 from the BOBIS Saturday Doubles making the total payout $781.

A special thanks goes out to Dustin Hart for brining out the temporary basket and setting it up making holes 2, 7, and 8 much smoother.

Also, we would like to thank Jesse Cahill and Super Dave McCabe for donating some cool prizes for the longest and last Aces hit which went to Joe Wallo and Greg Ameel.

A huge CONGRATULATIONS goes out to Lori Mullen who hit the first ace by a woman in the BOBIS Ace Race!

Food Donations are still coming in, but so far we have in hand $2000 cash and about 700 lbs of food. Significantly more food is expected to be added to the total and will be delivered to the Capuchin Soup Kitchen on MLK day. Thanks all for your donations and help to make this our best year yet !
