A few weeks ago we welcomed Chuck Wharton into our club as member 113. He moved here from Honest to Goodness, Crossroads of America, Hoosier State. Now we have a New new guy, #114 Michael Trask, relocating to our area on an even longer hop from the Beaver State. Hello fellow disc golfer,

My name is. Lada Rezek, PDGA#54893, I play for the Burnaby DGC, I am average disc golf player with a bad back and funny chin beard. After dropping out of a tournament again, due to my back issues, I decided to heal.

During this healing process I wanted to help my club and become a bigger part of disc golf. It is then I went on an adventure. One I hope the disc golf community will embrace and am sending this message to all disc golf clubs. Well as many as I can.

After 10 months of hard work, abiding by guidelines, dealing with little issues, and a pre-unveil to the Burnaby disc golf club which received great response, I am proud to announce the OFFICIAL RELEASE of DISCGOLFBUDDY.

A Canadian product I hope will grow and help sponsor disc golf around the world. If your disc golf club plays for tags, this is for you. If not, it's time to help your club begin a new and exciting way to play for club tags.

Currently available for both Android and iPhone devices, clubs now have an easy to use app to sort and track standings for tags. In conjunction with the Discgolfbuddy.ca website, anyone can now see where they stand among their club and other clubs.

Check for yourself, visit www.discgolfbuddy.ca and enter Burnaby DGC into the club field.

Use the phone app anywhere, the simple easy to use features makes for quick results and easy posting. The best part, if Discgolfbuddy becomes a success, then clubs will have the opportunity to apply for available Sponsorship funds.

Next Saturday is the Membership Drive for StrongArm League 2016-17 season.
The Membership Drive is a fundraiser disc golf event for the Fairgrounds Fling tournament, and the culmination of the 2015-2016 bag tag season. Date is set for Saturday March 26, 2016. Check-in starts at 8:30, tee 1st round by 9:30/ 2nd round about 1pm. Lunch will be available at this event at a modest cost, any proceeds going toward the cause.
Entry is the cost of Membership, $25. For that you get: a new numbered bag tag suitable for competition purposes, a dri-fit shirt or glow disc emblazoned with the club logo, and all membership perks. This includes full ace fund payout at SAFE-D Meetings (the weekly Friday Doubles at the St Johns County Fairgrounds), special high-dollar CTP for current members at Fairgrounds Fling 50-Fore!, 20% discount on in-stock club merchandise, advance notice & registration on events, etc.
Prizes will be awarded for lowest 2015-16 tag brought in, and the winner of round 1 (current members with tags) keeps the lowest tag for the expiring season as a memento PLUS gets an entry to the Fling this year.
New 2016-17 season tags will be awarded at the end. Only 69 tags will be issued this season, renewing members will get eligibility priority at the event. New Tags will be issued, lowest to highest, to A) best combined score for both rounds, B) Best score of second round (for those who couldn't make first round), and then C) tournament sponsors, or D) earliest date of prepayment (for those who couldn't make either round).
If you know anyone who wants to get in on round 1 but does not have a current tag, there are a few left at the year-end price of $20 which includes all the stuff you usually get with a limited selection of shirt sizes (mostly XL). Get with me.

Payments can be handed to me if you see me, or paypal directed toward walt13989(at)gmail(dot)com. Please include the shirt size you want when paying, unless you prefer a putter with the League logo stamped on top.

OK. I will be running the early SAFE-D meeting on Fri 11/15. Tee off at 4 pm sharp. I will not be able to run the later meeting. If you are going to play in the 4 pm meeting, let me know by text at 904-501-2109. If you're late you're welcome to join us as either odd dog, or paired up with odd dog. Sounds like a Sunday handicap might be the way to go. Bag tag rounds can be incorporated into the handicaps if you wish, but no handicap rounds for bag tags. In other words, gross scores count for bag tag challenges and net scores count for handicaps. Does that make sense? Is it doable? Inquiring minds want to know.

Next week (11/15/2013) we will have two separate SAFE-D Meetings; first one starts at 4pm, then another round starting after dark, about 6:15 most likely. This way the players who don't like playing at night are included, as well as those who have to work later on Fridays and can't make it by 5pm. I was speaking with the "Walt" today (shout out to him for finding my road runner in a tree), and we were talking about a bag tag challenge or weekend doubles. Unfortunately my schedule being what it is, I am unable to make most of the SAFE-D meetings. I do have weekend time available, and I would be willing to volunteer some time to organizing the weekend challenge. SABAGTAGTOUR (St. Augustine bag tag Tournament). Anyway we could set it up with a couple bucks donation per player. Payout would be 50% to low handicap score. Yes a bag tag handicap!! The other 50 % would go to an ace fund and carry over if no aces hit. Handicaps would have to be established with two rounds. We could all chip in for our first two rounds with no payout, just low gross score taking the lower number bag tag, and so on to high score taking the highest tag number. This would build the pot. Those without handicaps would be donating til they established. If not established you are eligible for the ace fund. Oh and you need to join Strong Arm to get a bag tag. Thoughts? Phil Rowe
