Reminder that 2015 Christie Lake Disc Golf Club Memberships now on sale! The annual dues are $20 (discount of $8 if your ODSA individual membership has already been paid at a tournament or through another club). What you get for your membership:

- A new 2015 club tag to adorn your golf bag, and for fun tag challenge matches (see http://www.discgolfontario.com/forum/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=2406.0;attach=1324 for a photo) - 40 tags will be made this year and over half are already spoken for, so don't delay!

- Eligibility for bonus contests and prizes during league play throughout the year


- The satisfaction of supporting your local disc golf club's efforts to run leagues and events, and keep the course maintained

Back by popular demand, we'll be starting up our summer singles handicap league.

- We will NOT be offering a PDGA sanctioned league this year - it was felt that there is not enough Pro support to give accurate round ratings.
- There has been some interest in doubles play this summer as well, so we will have occasional random draw pro-am doubles nights this summer as well.

Starting next Monday, April 13th, and running until Summer League commences on May 11th, 2015, we will be holding PRE-LEAGUE WARM-UP MONDAYS like we did last year. All are welcome and it’s free to play – Play just for fun or establish your handicap before summer league kicks off!

IMPORTANT UPDATE: I think we will move our official Winter League finale back to it's original date of March 28th - I know I announced a few weeks back that we would have the final party on March 21st (and another casual round for the 28th) - so that our dedicated group of Brantford boys wouldn't be double booked on that day with their Chains of Steel event. However, I have learned that the core of their crew will be double booked either way as they are heading down to Aylmer for a doubles event tomorrow March 21st.

Sorry to anyone that remembered my earlier announcement and expected the final party - come on out anyways tomorrow for our usual exciting doubles round, and join us next week for the final party (details to be announced)

Going to be excellent weather for winter golf tomorrow - not too windy, nice and sunny - vitamin D, get yer vitamin D here!

Looking ahead now that it's almost March - In recognition of the great support we have received from the Brantford crew this winter, we will be holding the official Winter League Finale on Saturday March the 21st in order to allow Brantford and Christie Lake players to enjoy the finale and still participate in the "Chains of Steel" tournament at the Hawk on March 28th. We'll still have a less formal outing at Christie Lake as originally advertised on the 28th for those not attending the tournament, but the party will just be the 21st.

Another great turnout this morning for Christie Lake Winter League! Thanks to all our faithful members who attended and special thanks to those who came from out of town to join the fun (Lee Hatton, Josh Mace, the Brantford crew, anybody else that I missed who came from far lands).

This Saturday Dec 27th - The Christie Lake Disc Golf Club Winter League 'Santa's CTPs' Christmas Party:

- As usual, membership not required for winter league, all players of all skill levels welcome!
- 10 am start as usual - bonfire, hot chocolate and check-in starting at 9:30
- $5 entry fee (plus optional $1 for ace pool): The usual first and second place payouts, but a CTP prize to be won on every hole!
- Bonfire social with Chili lunch and Christmas treats immediately following golf.
- 50/50 Throwdown during lunch: unlimited throws for $2 per throw, from temporary tee near meeting area to #9 basket, closest to the pin wins half the pot (guaranteed miminum $40). Bring your toonies and help fund the new tee signs!

Notice to Christie Lake Disc Golfers:
We have been informed by Cari Hobbs, the Park Superintendent, that they have had to close the road to the Marina/Disc Golf Course parking lot temporarily to make some emergency repairs. Please respect the barriers, they have allowed us to park along the road leading up to that parking lot, from there it is easy to simply start at hole 10 or hole 11 and play the course as usual.
We have been informed that disc golfers moved the barriers and drove through on Sunday Dec 21st, impeding the work they have going on. This has not made our club more popular with the staff at Christie Lake, PLEASE if we want to continue to have a disc golf course at Christie Lake, we must respect the Park's rules.

Looking Ahead: After polling our members it looks like the overwhelming winner for the date of the 'Santas CTPs' CLDGC Winter Party is a week from this Saturday, on December 27th! We'll have a regular pro-am doubles round, but are committing to have a bonus CTP prize for each one of the 18 holes. After golf, lunch will be provided.
That means this Saturday will be the last league round before the party. Anyone who has generously donated prizes, if you could please try and get them to me this Saturday it would be appreciated, so that I can plan the festivities.

Thanks to everyone who participated in our annual Great American Turkey Shoot – great time was had by all on a bee-yoo-tee-full fall morning. Congratulations to our big winners Oz and Josh “The Kid” with a stunning 6 turkeys to win the bonus prize and also with the first place finish at -11! Congrats also to Ryan McDiarmid with the CTP win, and Chris Morlock who carried me on his back to finish in a tie for second and eventually prevail in the exciting CTP playoff.
Please note this clarification regarding the choosing of Pro-Am pairings for winter league going forward: we strive for random team selection, though due to the variety of players participating the League Director reserves the right in rare cases to make minor adjustments to teams to resolve mismatches.

OK Everybody! We ordered up the nice weather again for Saturdays winter league round. And in a tradition started last winter, in honour of the US Thanksgiving weekend, we'll be holding the Christie Lake Great American Turkey Shoot! In addition to the usual 1st and 2nd place payouts, weekly CTP and ace pool, the pro-am team with the most turkeys (3 birdies in a row) gets a bonus prize (each member of the winning team gets a $20 Tim Hortons gift card).

Just to preemptively settle any debate about what is and is not a 'turkey': any possible combination of 3 birdies in a row is a turkey. So for example if you birdie 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7: That is 3 turkeys (345, 456, and 567).

Hope to see everyone out this week, cocoa and registration at 9:30 to 9:45, tee off at 10 am.

Lost and Found Update: Discs found on the course during club functions or returned in the CLDGC blue return box will NO LONGER be returned to the Front Gatehouse. This is due to ongoing problems in retrieving discs from the gatehouse and keeping them safe until their owners can pick them up. This is further complicated by the fact that we have been told that the park is no longer planning to staff the gatehouse except during summer months.

Looking Ahead: Winter League Kickoff November 1, 2014! Club membership not required, and players of all skill levels are welcome! See attached announcement below.

For our kick-off round, in addition to our regular first-place team pay-out and CTP (hole #9), we will also be playing 'CTP Poker' for a bonus Prize:
- Each foursome will carry a deck of shuffled playing cards
- On the first tee, each player in the foursome will be dealt 2 cards from your groups deck
- On each ODD numbered hole of the 18-hole round, the AM partner in your group who is closest to the pin off the tee will receive an additional playing card at random from your group’s deck. EVEN numbered holes, closest PRO partner to the pin gets a playing card.
- The best 5-card poker hand from all the groups at the end of the round receives a bonus payout!

Currently we have a starting ACE pool at $40.00. We will donate 50% of the remaining ace pool after the season finale, to Christie Lake, for course improvements; as we did last year.

Our season kicks off Sat. Nov. 3rd 2012.
