About this tournament
2 rounds of play
Ahh, the possibility of another march of madness through some snow..... kidding. Hopefully it's a nice warm day. This is a tournament that has been run in the past by the Grand Rapids Dogs of Disc, but this time it has a little twist. There will be a couple of rounds of doubles play at this event. A players package is still being worked on for this event... the current thought is:
The MDGO fundraiser disc might be the featured item (limited quantity from GRDoD) at this event.
This will no longer be a flip doubles tournament, as most doubles players do not like the surprise of receiving random partners unless it is something like a $$ round (league play or $5 doubles as examples)...SO, PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN PARTNER .
If you were intending on playing and do NOT have a partner, there may still be time to find one OR a flip may result for ONLY those without partners, or you might find your teammate on-sight.
For those who don't know what flip doubles are... it is where all people stand in a large circle and flip one disc up in the air (like a coin). Heads go one way, tails go the other. People keep flipping until teams of two are formed. If you become odd, you wait until someone else is odd. If you are the only person left without a partner, you just became what is known as the odd-man. You will get one extra throw per hole unless the majority of people present at the event permit you the "California" rule. Where you are allowed one extra throw per placement of best shot until you complete the hole. (2 drives, 2 approaches, 2 puts per hole for example) BUT This IS A Bring Your Own Partner event so yeah, now you know that if you didn't prior......
This event is now tiered Pro, AM Masters, AM1, AM2, and AM3 and possibly mixed doubles. Tiers work based on the "best" player of each team. If you are an AM3 and your partner is AM1, you will throw AM1. With that said, it takes a minimum of 3 teams (partner sets) to create a tier. I have enough prizes to pay out 2 spots for each division. Prices will be equal for each division as the price is still per person and includes a disc. (Limit is 30, if more than that show up to play, then a name and contact information will be collected to provide you a disc of current equal value.)
A little FYI, Cascade park will be getting redesigned (by Cascase Park) due to a dog park that is being put in...along with some basketball courts. They have sent me their proposed design and will more than likely be performing work soon.
Please contact Rick Marritt with questions, comments, and/or concerns.
