Teams of 2 players (BYOP) are invited to compete in the inaugural Sunshine State Match Play Doubles Championships! This event will feature an exciting variety of formats and strategies and teams will compete in one of 6 Ratings Based divisions and play up to 6 rounds to determine the Sunshine State Match Play Doubles Champions in each division!
FORMAT
Qualifying & Ranking - Teams will play qualifying rounds to rank the teams in each division for the Match Play bracket. The best 2 rounds (out of a possible 3 rounds) of team scores will be counted toward the qualifying and ranking scores. The qualifying ranking scores will consist of 1 Round of Best Shot Doubles and 1 Round of Alternate Shot Doubles. Teams can choose to substitute their OPTIONAL Friday score of Best Shot Doubles for their 1st Round of Saturday Best Shot Doubles if it's lower. Teams must play the 1st Round on Saturday for their Friday round to be considered in the total score.
Tie-Breaking - To properly rank the teams, it may be necessary to break ties if two or more teams are tied at the end of qualifying rounds. Doubles Rounds Tie-Breaker #1 will be the lowest total of the teams two rounds of Best Shot Doubles (Optional Friday + 1st Round Saturday). If a team only has one score (Saturday 1st Round) then the team with 2 scores wins the tie-breaker. Tie-Breaker #2 will be the team with the lowest total PDGA Player Rating. Tie-Breaker #3 will be a coin toss with the team with the hotter round in the Alternating Shot Doubles round choosing to call or defer.
Match Play Match-Ups - Red/Green/Purple match-ups will all play on the Front 9 and Gold/Blue/White match-ups will play on the Back 9. Each divisional match-up will start on the same hole. Gold - Hole #10, Blue - Hole #13, White - Hole #16, Red - Hole #1, Green - Hole #4, Purple - Hole #7.
PDGA Points & Ratings - This event in a PDGA sanctioned X-Tier which means players will earn points towards Worlds invites but the scores will have no bearing on individual Player Ratings.
Phase I - Friday - Qualifying - OPTIONAL Round of Doubles for all teams. Play (1) Round of 18 Holes of Best Shot Doubles. Teams can choose to substitute for their Round 1 score of Best Shot Doubles on Saturday. Flex Start between 10am & 4pm - an additional $3 Greens Fee will be required.
Phase II - Saturday - Qualifying - (2) Rounds of 18 Holes on Saturday to rank teams and create a bracket based on overall team score. Round 1 is Best Shot Doubles, Round 2 is Alternating Shot Doubles.
Phase III - Sunday - Match Play - Top 2 teams in each division based on Saturday's scores will get a first round bye. Bottom 4 teams will play a round of 9 Holes (1 v 4, 2 v 3) of Match Play. Red/Green/Purple match-ups will all play on the Front 9 and Gold/Blue/White match-ups will play on the Back 9. Each divisional match-up will start on the same hole.
Phase IV - Sunday - Match Play - The two teams that win the 1st Round of Match Play will advance and face off against the two teams that were on a bye in Round 2 of 9 Holes of Match Play and will compete in similar fashion (1 v 4, 2 v 3). The two teams that lost in Round 1 of Match Play will play each other in the Consolation Bracket. Red/Green/Purple match-ups will all play on the Front 9 and Gold/Blue/White match-ups will play on the Back 9. Each divisional match-up will start on the same hole.
Phase V - Sunday - Match Play Championships - The two teams that win the 2nd Round round of Match Play will advance and face off against each other in the Match Play Championships. This will be a round of 18 Holes. The two teams that lost in Round 2 of Match Play will play each other in the Consolation Bracket. Round 2 of the Consolation Bracket will be 9 Holes of play.
PLAYER REQUIREMENTS
Limit of 36 Teams, 6 Per Division. Event will use the 6 color coded PDGA Ratings-Based Divisions: Gold, Blue, White, Red, Green & Purple. The PDGA Player Rating for both players must qualify for their respective division. All players must have a PDGA Player Rating established between 1/1/2018 and the event date.
