Hey all! We’ll have a more formal event wrap up post coming soon for the Blue Angel: A Christmas Tourney Sponsored by Discraft, but, I wanted to add some clarity on the PDGA weather policy and the round 2 cancellation decision.

Hey all! We’ll have a more formal event wrap up post coming soon for the Blue Angel: A Christmas Tourney Sponsored by Discraft, but, I wanted to add some clarity on the PDGA weather policy and the round 2 cancellation decision.

Regarding the PDGA policy, stoppage of play must occur if lightning is withing 15 miles of the course. Play must stop for 30 minutes from each lightning strike that is within 15 miles. This must be determined through a detection app or service, not by if we see lightning with our eyes.

Regarding the cancellation of round 2, this was done for a multiple reasons.

1. With some cards not finishing Round 1 until almost 2pm, we would not have had daylight for a Round 2 after a 30-45 minute break. Tee off at 2:30 puts round finishing at 5:15-5:30. It’s pitch black out there at 5:30 and would have gotten darker sooner with the weather.

2. Lightning was detected within 15 miles around 1:50, putting a 2nd round start time up in the air.

3. The forecast showed more severe weather at 3:30-4pm.

4. Although it is not severely raining on site, lightning was just detected within 10 miles. Play would be stopped right now and we would not have finished Round 2.

Even with no more delays, daylight would not have allowed for completion of the 2nd round.

We appreciate everyone that came out and apologize that the weather disrupted the event. There were a few people who were vocally frustrated, so hopefully this clears it up. We are required to follow PDGA safety standards and hope that everyone understands the importance of this.

Still no rain or lightning

Round 2 will be cancelled due to impending weather and darkness. All players will not finish round 1 until 1:30-1:45, leaving non sufficient time for a break and completion of round 2. There are also more thunderstorms projected at 3:00PM. Please come by tournament central for Ace Pot and Raffles.
