Hi Steve, I re-sorted the waitlist to break the two "tied" WL positions. The re-sort was based on original registration timestamp. You were within a fraction of a fraction of a second of the other #3 player.

If the goal is to bring the top players together then maybe a second or even third tier invite based on ratings.. For MA 50 as an example. after the 10% line- rd 2 @ 920+ rd 3 @ 900+

OK, so your thoughts on this. In several of the "AMATURE" classes there are SEVERAL players with well over 900 rateing that have played pro (and won) and hvae been palying for over 20 years. Is this fair or sandbagging not stepping up to the pro worlds. Is this fair to the newer players who are actually am players with lower than 900 that have been playing less than 10 years. Comming from a raceing backround ALL those riders that have won or raced in top catagories would have to stay there and not move back........In MHO all players in the 940 and higher rate with over 20 should move up and leave the amature classes to, well, the amature.

There was a tier 1 registration that was based on rating. No system is ever going to be perfect, but the best rated guys had first crack to get in. I do like the idea of having a points level for first tier too.

I am a newish MA40 +900 player and I'm waitlisted after getting on at 10:31 EST. While agree that you should not have ever competed as a pro to be eligible for Amateur Worlds, there should have been a better tiered signup. If it is truly an amateur world championship then you need two things. Amateurs and the best players. Right now it is a some of the best and people who can't really win, but want the experience of going to worlds.

Equally disappointing that a player can play ZERO Master's events in the previous year and still qualify to register. These players that choose to play AM1 and AM2 rather than age protected divisions are the ones that make it hard to accrue the necessary points. Definitely need to revamp the process of qualifying and registering.

I play a combination of MA2/MA40 events, dependent on the layout of the event, as I do not want to play MPO layouts (long to longs for every round) and find in MA2 it's more typical to have a long & short round. While in other events the MA40 field will play the same layout as MA2 and thus I compete in MA40. But again, just curious how my behavior in selecting the divisions affects your ability to accrue points?

I live in DFW and have one of the largest tournament pools in Texas and there are tournaments where masters fields are slim to non so people play in ma1 ma2 for points and payout. What’s more troubling is the winning MPO and MP40 players that don’t accept cash all year so they can bag an am worlds for their little self confidence boost. That’s the broken part of the system.

If an AM40 player doesn't register for AM40 but plays AM1 or AM2 instead then there is less AM40 registrants thus less AM40 points.

As a low rated player who has been playing a long time, statements like this cut me pretty deep. Many of us have the desire and compete just as hard. But, are unable to play with the frequency it takes to get that much better. I love going to these types of events each year and this is my 3rd time going. However, I do agree that there should be possibly an additional 900+ rated MAJOR Invitational for those players. Something like that would serve those that have higher skills, without discrimminating against truer amateurs, who would still have a "AM-Worlds"

I've played in the previous 10 Am Worlds and this is the FIRST time ever that they DID have tiered registration based on ratings. I think this was a GREAT first attempt to solve the problem. The highest rated players are indeed playing, so I don't see any issue as they had a 2 week head start on registration.

FYI: not all lower rated players suck. My family is military and we move a lot. I play blind exclusively. I finish tournaments Even or under par sometimes and its the worst rated round because I can’t compete with locals that play that course every day for years. I played 42 tournaments blind last year in 4 divisions in 9 different states. This will be my 3rd worlds in a row. I love it and all that comes with it. Just offering some perspective on ratings. I don’t disagree with any of the comments here.

There is no perfect system and I don't agree with the original post. I will follow whatever the PDGA mandates. However, the moment I don't have a chance at getting into a Worlds event is the moment I stop playing PDGA sanctioned events all together. Having a decent amount of space for all to sign up I think keeps with the original tradition of the event. Honestly, I think we just need to find was to continue to expand the field size as demand is clearly increasing. I might not quite be 900 riated, but last year at worlds I held my own and competed in the top 1 to 15% on each given day. Rating isnt the best indicator of skill. I play as much as I can and still end up playing some events blind as I truly want to experience other areas of the country. This just means my rating takes a hit. If I have to worry about boosting my rating, well then something else is wrong with the system.

If I may offer a suggestion for the future, in the registration process the first Tier is the top percentage of rated player in that division. Why not add a tier for top percentage of points for the previous year. It's obvious those players are the ones playing your events, paying your fees and wanting to qualify for your Worlds.

I would like to see the point system changed. My thought would be to take all the players that are playing from the same tees to the same baskets, and base the points on that. Why should my -1 round only be worth 12 points when the same -1 in MA1 might be worth 100?

All great ideas. It's obvious that at the rate the sport is growing, the demand for tournaments is as well. It's such a shame to spend a year trying to qualify just to miss a 4-6 hour window to register.

why not just use the "Global Masters Series Rank" for the divisions that are covered by that system? Week one the top 20 can register, week two the top 40, week three the top 60 etc. Would be awesome to see a worlds made up of the best players.

I agree Don, great idea. By taking into consideration ranking, rating and points they would be collecting the most qualified players for that division although I don't like that a player can play MPO and MP40 all year (never play an AM event) and still qualify for AM Worlds...

If you truly want it to be fair and representative of the BEST players 1) True AMs only, no Pros playing AM. 2) Make any Worlds Division winners reclassify as Pro after the event 3) Have qualifying events (Regionals, States, etc) and FORCE players to win their way to Worlds instead of ratings, points, or quickest computer speeds. Outside of that, which isn't even a perfect system, there will ALWAYS be people complaining about not getting in.

With the growth we have seen the last few years what would you suggest for a field size ? Do you understand it used to be just Pro or Am Worlds ? If you want larger fields do you think many clubs will undertake this ? Do you know how many actually put in bids for this event ? Sadly I didn’t see any comment or suggestions that make anymore sense that what we are currently doing .

Roger, there's a tournament in Morton/Peoria every year that seems to accommodate the field sizes I'm referring to and it's an A Tier. Every year Ledgestone continues to grow and improve and is now a bigger event than Worlds...it seems the crew that hosts that event doesn't have any difficulty growing their field size.

Total agree the the Ledgestone model should be used to plan for Worlds. Starting in jan for a July tornement is the first thing.

A few things - 400+ people were able to register. It's possible that the issue was on your end. Either an old computer, poor internet connection, something. Second, you don't need points in your division to get an invite. You only need Amateur points. I'm registered for MA50, but only 24 of my 588 points were actually in MA50 for 2022.

I didn't have any pc issues, just slower internet I guess. I was entered in the first half of the first minute and got 15th on the waiting list.

Yeah I had to play over 10 tournaments in either MA1 or MA2 to get enough points to qualify for this year.
