AWESOME – Purely awesome to watch an amazing round. Yes I had the pleasure to be carded with Mike Raley and Ken Parks last night at Rolling Hills when together they played the most amazing round of consistent golf. A new Doubles course record and to the best of my knowledge a overall course record of -18 from the shorts. This year we have seen some great rounds at -16 but this is the first that I am aware and it was a beautiful thing to witness. There was one par on hole 15 but with a Ace on hole 6 this did not blemish this stellar round. The Ace by Mike on hole 6 was great. It always seems, in hindsight to me, that I should know when it seems the like disc is taking extra long to get to the basket but is on line, it will end up sitting in the basket. A direct route down the hill directly at the basket. Half way there it appeared like it was going to be a bit high and just clear the top of the basket but it slowly dropped but I had to blink and verify it was still sitting in the basket because it hit the bottom of the chains and just sat in the basket – perfectly placed. We all paused for 1 second and then simultaneously screamed. Where was the video camera….

Well there you have it - Officially Ypsi Dubs Tuesday - The Original Ypsi Dubs - is done for the Summer.

Congratulation to everyone on a fun filled summer. I'd like to thank Matt Schooley who ran most of the events and reg and along with Chris Gee who was in on all the planning and critical pre-round CTP incentives, which were normally run by Jake Schooley and Rob Shaffer and a few others who stepped in to keep the fun going. Thanks to GLane, Scott White and Ben Calhoun who stepped in to keep Ypsi Dubs Tuesday or Church going when life happend.

Thanks to Pete and Disc Golf Scene for making the tracking and connecting so easy and so much fun.

When the Rolling Hills park opens back up I will update the plaque with the the top three places from each of the two Ypsi Dubs Summer 2010 leagues. Note that although the last Ypsi Dubs Tuesday round of the season only had 10 players and had to be played at another course, it was enough to alter the 3rd place standing. With a third place finish in that last round and only 6 points for his effort through those 24 holes, Andy Steiner managed to just edge out KT for the third place position for the season and the last spot on the plague. The plague should be in the lodge, hanging on a wall when the park opens back up.

I will be immortalizing the winner of each league on the Ypsi Dubs Holy Grail as well. Etched in glass for eternity or there abouts. For Ypsi Dubs Tuesday that is none other than Mr. Bob Smart - Congrats Bob.

Temporary Park Closing

Rolling Hills County Park will be temporarily closed for public use from Monday, September 27, 2010 through Saturday, November 14, 2010 due to construction activity on the park road system. During this time, no general public vehicle or pedestrian entry will be permitted.

We anticipate Rolling Hills will re-open for public use on Monday, November 15, 2010.

52 players made it out to Ypsi Dubs for our MiCPS Highlighted League of the week. 10 new players several who traveled just to come experience Ypsi Dubs during it’s HLW. Thanks for making the trek.

The dark clouds and bursts of heavy rain keep some regulars away but the clouds parted and the sun broke through from time to time – ok with a few very short and refreshing sprinkles to keep the temperature in check. In all, a great day on the Rolling Hills course. So the park did not need to close the course for us as planned and casuals were not an issue but we just managed to get the playoffs done and a few payouts before heading off to Buffalo Wild Wings.

The pre-round CTP got things started and added to Kevin Tomasaitis’ CTP trophy collection.

The weather and play was good enough to allow two Aces during the round. Aaron Birdsall hit hole #1 and Taggart Anderson hit hole #8. The Ace pool was at 292, pays half, and with the split they both grab $73 bucks and 25 MiCPS points each. Nice Shots!

Other nice Shots for the day, CTPS:

Hole #7 the 100% payout CTP $48
Ben Ciccarelli had the CTP, Marty Peters throws an equally nice shot at the end, so close the initial pace off was unable to determine the winner. Tried another method and still inconclusive – too close to call. At the end of the 5th measurement they determined it had to be within an 1/8 of an inch. Many what an effort but the big bucks were at stake. They decided to Split the cash and took home an extra $24.

That means the 50/50 CTP was worth $24 and on hole #12 John McAskin hit the shot to win this $24 outright. The other $24 goes into the Ypsi Dubs fund which is going to enhancing Hole #5 at the Farm House soon.

With that the number of players is up to 156 for Ypsi Dubs Tuesday and the Ace pool climbs to $346. Expect a few more new players with that Ace Pool incentive growing....

Joe Favreau won the Pre-round CTP - Etched growler and Pint Glass as well as passed on some MI brew to some friends - Nice Shot Joe. Thanks Jake for running the Pre-round CTP. It generated $15 toward our sponsored hole at the Farm House course. If you haven't played that course you need to check it out. There are cool improvements weekly. Ypsi Dubs is sponsoring hole #5 - the one that plays through the swamp/pond. Besides getting a permanent basket, we will improve the wooden walk ways and existing wooden tee pad over the water and build some additional bridges through the glades... Matt Schooley has collected a bunch of materials and plans are being developed. If you are interested in donating supplies or leading a hand, see Matt or myself

Framo and Matt Schooley had a -14 - Nice Round guys and were the Out Right Winners.
A four way tie at -13, lead to a points gap of eight points between them and first place and to a CTP playoff.
When the smoke cleared Daemon and Anthony Voss took it and 2nd cash, followed by Ryan Roleson and Jacob Quiton, Joe Favreau and Brooke Plantz, then Mark Lapan and Kevin Tomisitis.

Bob Smart played Cali and brought in a -12 for 6th cash - was it enough points to hang onto first on the leader board????....
Chris Behrmann and Joe Phipps brought in the only -11, to edge out the group of 5 teams tied at -10, and took final cash.


On the Leader Board

I'm happy to report that some how I made it back in the top ten ;-)- Baggers. It only shows you that anyone can make it if you want it bad enough. I attribute it all to Hard work//// no, clean living//// no, good partners - Yeah - Thanks Andy for the points boast and all the fun ;-)

Also Jake Schooley moved into the top ten as well jumping in at the 9th spot.

6th, 7th and 8th remain unchanged; Bart, Smitty and Justin Meyer, respectively.

GLane was absent this week (thanks for running Church Sunday G) and it took a toll as he fell from tied for 2nd to 5th place. This allowed Daemon Stahlin, Matt Schooley and Kevin Tomasaitis to each move up with Kevin in sole possession of 2nd place.

The gap between 1st and 10th widened again this week from 117 points last week to 145 points - as Bob Smart increased his lead - although Kevin reduced the gab between 1st and 2nd by 2 points over last week.

Well currently the forecast for next Tuesday is Sunny and 80 degrees with a sprinkle of casuals, I'm sure.

Rain day but 20 die hards still came out and battled for the points. Random draw doubles from the short.

Andy Steiner won the Pre-round CTP this week.

No Aces this week so the Ace pool climbs to $258

Brooke and Jake edged out Daemon & Blaine of the CTP to break the tie at -9 and grabbing last cash at 3rd . Smitty & Sheldon turned in -10 to take 2nd and the out right winning team was KT & Chris Behrmann at -12.

Brooke Plantz took the CTP on hole #18 to get the new Core disc.

The delta in points between 1st and 10th widens again to 117 points. But the delta is slowing it was 115 last week.

Smitty moves from 10th last week to 7th this week with the biggest move but that pushed down Justin M to 8th, Brandon Ellefson to 9th and Grant Anderson to 10th. Daemon moves up one spot to 5th edging Bart down to 6th. In the top four the names stay in the same starting with Matt Schooley at 4th but KT moves into a tie for second with Greg Lane - both 58 points out from taking 1st away from Bob Smart who maintains his 1st place position for yet another week.

Tuesday was a great day for a round at Rolling Hills and 50 players took advantage of the great spring weather.

First help me welcome Ilan Friedman, Nick Yelinek, Ryan Molnar, Jacob Quinton, Joe Laperna, Sean Manning, Danny Fifer, Greg Harold, Bill Gables, Derrick Dropulich, Lex Luther, Dan Lee and Alyse Avery out for their first Ypsi Dubs Tuesday round of the Summer. Extend a howdy and extend your friends list and well see each other on the course soon.

Pictures are now online for both Ypsi Dubs for the last few rounds. The Ypsi Gypsy CAM will be coming back as well - Traveling camera from group to group. Hopefully we can link these pictures to the league like we can videos. So if anyone takes videos you can upload and just link them to the league. Man there were a lot of tie scores this week - seven -8 downs which can drive you crazy when you wan t those points – so -8 got 20 points and -9 got 34. Man! if only that one shot…. Yes 14 players all saying if only that one shot....

The tie at -9 was played off and Jon Steiner and Justin Meyer took last cash, $10 from Ryan Olsen and Sheldon Bowen who had to settle for just the 34 points.

At -10 a four way tie Brandon Ellefson and Grant Anderson, Nick Yelinek and Andy Steiner, Bobby Mcaleer and Jeremy Gibbs, Greg Lane and Ilan Friedman and they all split the 4th – 7th cash, $70 as well as pocketing 38 points each.

At -11 a two way tie, Bart Fencl and Jim (JD) Daniels won the playoff CTP for 2nd place, $50 against Kevin Tomasaitis and Mark Lapan who got $40 for 3rd and all got 46 points.

No tie for first place – so the Out Right Winners with a -15 are Daemon Stahlin and Bob Smart, taking the $80 for 1st and 52 points.

For for Ypsi Dubs Tuesday the Top 10 rounded out like this;

So being part of that 7 way tie still did me some good as I needed all 20 points to sneak into the 10th place to be in yet another tie with Bob D..

Daemon jumps into the top 10 at 9th and I know he is focused on getting to 1st. but others are also on the move up. Bobby Mcaleer jumps up to 8th and Grant Anderson does him one better to take 7th. Kevin Tomasitis takes cash and holds and unchanged at 5th. Bart as well takes some cash and remains at 4th. Matt Schooley enjoyed the round but not the slip to 3rd. GLane moves to within striking distance at 2nd with only 49 points separating him from Bob Smart who moves into the top of the Leader Board to take 1st.

The Michigan Cooperative Points Series were the points piling up from all 25 leagues playing somewhere almost every day. But this is what I saw when I posted the Tuesday data:

Jon Steiner jumped into the top ten at tenth, Doug McIntosh drop to 9th, Grant Anderson up to 7th but tied with Dave Milewski after his drop along with Jason Kirkaldy who came to rest at 6th. Daemon & GLane tied at 4th. Matt Schooley up to 3rd just 24 points behind Bob Smart at 2nd and KT – Kevin Tomasitis holding at 1st but only by 18 points. Only 77 points separating 10th from 1st. Looks like the Highlighted League of the Week will shake up the Leader Board a bit. Make sure you check the Schedule on the MiCPS to see when and where.

Well a great day on the course even with some extra excitement during registration. It was decided tonight to have Tuesday Ypsi Dubs be luck of the draw and Church will use the rating system to compare and have options to evaluate over the summer.

GLane and Foz were in sync and pulled out the out right winner at -13 for a 40 point round. Enough to put GLane in 3rd for Ypsi Dubs Tuesday and the MIPS for the moment. Some great rounds at -12, Smitty and Zach, Bob Smart and Jake Schooley, along with Grant Aderson and Gary Plumb. They CTP playoff had Smitty and Zach in 2nd for $50 and Grant and Gary took 3rd and $40 with Bob and Jake splitting the $20. Brooke Plantz and Bob Derkacz tied Kevin Tomasaitis & Jeff Poissant rounded out the cash at $10 each with a -11.

Matt Schooley holds onto 1st place overall for Ypsi Tuesday and currently in the MIPS - way to do it Matt -Representing

Again next week - Luck of the draw with a different method for determining partners that should speed things up and allow for any of the League Admin run things when work gets in the way.

Donation to the Ypsi Dub sponsored Hole at the Farm House went up $8.10 for a total of $72.31. Ypsi Dubs Church is leading the donation but every penny is just that much closer to another great hole on a great course in the area, that we all can be a part of. I know Scott White and Local 101 are sponsoring hole 13 - the course is really coming along with a lot of work by a lot of people. Tee signs went up last Saturday along with more clearing. Thanks to all for your efforts - come and enjoy a round on Fridays and watch the course come into it's own throughout the summer.

We defined and captured some rules in the League description based on recent events. I also wanted to describe the team pairing system so all know what we are currently using.

"To capture a few rules due to recent events:

You must be registered and at Roll Call to be able to compete for payouts, including Ace Pool. After Roll Call the list will be finalized – Anyone not present will be removed from the list - Cali determined if needed – teams determined and play will begin.

If you show up after Roll Call you can play single (not Cali) with a group, for points only. You must play all holes with other league players as witnesses. No group size greater than 6.

Cali pay-in is double except Ace pool and 2nd drive Aces count.

Our goal is to make this as fun and as fair as possible and include as many players as possible. Your ideas, suggestions, participation, patience and cooperation are all key to the success and appreciated by all who run Ypsi Dubs and who play the leagues.

Team Determination:

The goal is to make as fair of teams without pairing the same players week after week.

The basic idea is to divide the group of registered players into 4 groups based on a rating system. Pair the highest with the lowest after the lowest group has been randomized. Then the two middle groups get paired in the same way.

The rating system:
The current Excel file stores all the league rounds from the two Ypsi Dubs leagues. New players are given an initial rating by the League Coordinator. Scores are averaged together from week to week and once you have more than 5 - just your last 5 are used.

Top Players with several bad weeks may get paired with another Top Player. New Players that plays hot or who play with Top Players will then get paired accordingly. Gee sounds similar to random draw except that it balances out over time based on performances. New Players or lower skilled players will have Advanced players for their first few rounds and then their average will determine the group they are paired with. We will evaluate how this rating system works, potentially evaluate others and occasional use Random Flip or other methods.

For the larger groups we will have during summer this method should be quick, as fair as any other for the diversity of the groups of players.

Matt - way to recover from the laptop missing in action today and everyone for their great cooperation in flipping for teams –old school’n it.and not a hitch.

In the future we will have the laptop or manual method for bracketed random assignment - Top quarter are paired with the bottom quarter randomly and the middle two groups are randomly assigned together –based on a rating system. Last 5 rounds if you have that, average of scores to date or League coordinator call until rating is established.

The Ace Pool carried over from last year – good thing we did not invest it in the stock market – the whole $155 from last Summer and $48 from the unofficial round last week, plus $82 today, for a starting Ace Pool of $285 – which Anthony Voss appreciated when he hit hole 11 – up and over the hill – blind – for a $143 pay day to kick off the Summer right – Nice Ace Anthony. You get 25 Summer Ace points as well for the Ypsi Dubs Tuesday league and when I can link you in DGS you’ll get 25 points in the Ann Arbor and MI Cooperative Points Series as well automatically – Not a bad start to the Summer leagues….Nice Shot!!!

Well Bart is back he and Bob Smart kick off the league well, as well – Fifteen down – just shy of the records but a heck of a round and takes the Out Right Winner points as as well as first cash.

A –14 took 2nd, two –12, and two –11’s round out the cash positions. Checkout the leader board for all the details and bragging rights.

Great to be playing in the Summer like weather and seeing everyone out again. Enjoy the many leagues going on in the Ann Arbor area and also the other league throughout the state that are in the MI Cooperative Points Series – more just joined and a few more will probably be added over the next few weeks. The Highlighted league of the week will start soon for double points that week. Might be a great time for some disc golf road trips. Remember your best two league scores for a given week (Sunday – Saturday) will be the final scores used for that week in the Point Series.

First Summer Round Ypsi Dubs Tuesdays - 4/6 - 5:30 start
I have updated the schedule. We will start at 5:30 to ensure we are done on time - we must be out by dusk. 40% chance of Rain tomorrow - at Rolling that means almost no chance of rain ;-) But be prepared and we will close reg at 5:30 and begin...

I have tentatively updated the schedule to have the following two weeks at 5:45 and the rest at 6:00 - this is assuming the sun will cooperate - we will adjust accordingly and announce the updates.

Ace Pool was going to starts where it left off at the end of Summer - $155 - come get your money back ;-) But we had 24 players last Tuesday and decided to let it ride. So the Ace pool starts at $203- plus 25 points for Summer Aces in Ypsi Dubs and the Point Series....

Ace Pool was $301 - Andy Steiner hit hole #13. for $151. If it had been hole #12 he would have taken an extra $16 but that will carry over to next Tuesday for the "Pull Your Ace Hole". Put Andy also grabs 25 extra points - Congrats.

Pre-Round CTP for a special Etched Growler and Etched Pint Glass. Ace pool, and beside the normal CTPs there will be the now standard 50/50 CTP and the 100% CTP which has been above $25 each week but could jump with a few extra people showing up this week ;-)...

Oh I forgot - we will be giving away a 2010 State Championship berth to the best score (that does not already have a berth). Sorry this may mean you have to play off against your partner if your team has the best score and your partner doesn't already have their berth. But it also means that with random draw anyone could win the golden ticket....
