This is my favorite course. It's just about impossible not to have a good day at Hyzer Creek. For me personally, this will always be an A+ course, but my objective review is as follows:

Pros:

Technical, yet attackable. The course invites you to play aggressively and get birdies on almost every hole, but it is very punishing if you lose control and go off the fairway. It is a long course compared to other courses in the area, but it really favors precise shot-making and smart play more than anything.

Course design is phenomenal. Every hole is unique, and hand crafted. Unlike many woods courses, there really is a clear fairway on each and every hole. Luck factor has been reduced to an absolute minimum. It is magnificently maintained as well. Tons of elevation changes that are very well incorporated into the hole designs. Holes were intentionally designed to favor righties and lefties about equally over the whole course. Pars were set based on scoring averages of pro players over years of tournaments. At this point I have the whole layout memorized like the back of my hand. The holes are memorable like that. Great variety too, I throw almost every disc in my bag at least once during a round.

Good for players of all levels. I'm a developing player. I've been playing seriously for about 2 years now. I bag about 20 discs now, but I used to play this course with nothing but an Innova Shark. I've taken plenty of beginners here--even first timers! It's very possible to play this course with only a putter or a mid-range and still shoot a solid round. In fact, I recommend it to anyone who doesn't have good control on their drives. Hyzer has been my favorite course since I started playing, and it will continue to be among my favorites pretty much forever. The fact that it can be as playable as it is for beginners, intermediates, and pros with only one layout per hole speaks to the incredible design of the course.

Natural beauty. Hyzer Creek is in a really beautiful part of NY, on a gorgeous property. One of the reasons it's nice for beginners is that even if you shoot a lousy round, you have an awesome hike! It's dog friendly as well. I've played a couple rounds with friends who brought their dogs, and it's a lot of fun.

Cons:

Several of the tee pads are quite short. This is literally the only reason I can't objectively give this course an A+. I have a pretty short runup, so I am rarely hindered, but if you have a long runup it might be an issue for you. Almost all of the tee pads have ample room behind them where you can start your runup, so it's not a deal breaker. The shortest ones are on the holes where you will probably be throwing from a standstill anyway.

Comments:

This course gets more fun every time you play it. The minimal luck factor in the course design means you can measure your improvement each time you play. As you learn the layouts better you will learn how to attack, and when and where to lay up.

I was pleasantly surprised how fun this course is. It is a bit rough meaning sticks and some under brush could be cleared. But, this course offers a variety of tough technical holes, open bomber holes, and short poke and hopes. The design is really good. You need to shape your shots to place them in birdie range. This course is very hilly and has some long walks between holes. I recommend to play tee shots on both 1 and 18 and then finish both holes when you get to the bottom of a deep val ...

I recommend to play tee shots on both 1 and 18 and then finish both holes when you get to the bottom of a deep valley, since they are side-by-side. Overall, this is a great course that is both fun and challenging. The tees are short cement pads and have faded paper tee signs. I love their home made little tree stump seats and an amphitheatre like tee area on hole 12.
