Just in case any of you old timers want a shot at OLYMPIC GOLD (hint: it's not actually gold ;-) ):

Played the Polk County Open in Florida this past weekend, and got absolutely spanked by a fellow Michiganian, Wes Steer. Wes was on fire for the first round shooting a 1014 rated 49 on the very technical Hidden Oaks DGC. I think he only missed his line once from the teepad, and his putter was on fire! If you are friends with Wes give him a "That a Boy" shout out for lighting it up down here in the land of gators. https://www.pdga.com/tour/event/48158#MA60
did anybody suggest a drug test? And, great job to the two of you.
Old Michiganders showing those Floridians what's what! Nice job guys!!

We need more old farts at Cassius Benton!

There has been some interest in bringing back Alztimers disc golf bag tag challenges for 50 and over's again. Msg me if anyone is interested. This may happen again. We had a lot of fun.
We are glad your in Ron. You should have some fun. Have Paul send us a shout. Hopefully disc or die is in also.

Anyone else out there thinking of playing MG1 NWS @ Flip on Sat May 6th?
I was, but I'm already playing a tourney closer to home on that date.
Nice showing at Bowling Green Mike. Between BG last week and a Flint tournament this weekend, I am not sure my wife would be happy with a trip to Ludington.

We have 5 MM1 players registered already. Any of you old guys in the area and interested should sign up. We could have a huge showing for this one.

Thinking about playing Grand Isle Day 2 at Rotary North tomorrow 8/21. Never played it but it looks fun and challenging. Will be driving from Detroit area but currently not a masters division. Registration closes tonight at 8pm. I'm in if there are two more to make a division. Reply here or text me at 586-612-9275. Who isn't playing Ledgestone?? Let's go throw the plastic thing.
It is a fun/challenging course. Glad to have you make the journey. Currently I am signed up for AM2. Normally I play MG1, but saw the weather was not going to be favorable (as it turns out we had a tornado pass through GR today). If we can find a third, I might be willing to play younger (MM1). We'll have to wait & see.

Ledgestone Open: There are 10 spots in MM1, 3 spots left in MG1, and 3 spots in MS1. This is another good opportunity to boost your points total. The player pack is valued at over $250, so that doesn't hurt either. https://www.discgolfscene.com/tournaments/Ledgestone_Insurance_Open_presented_by_Discraft_2016/registration
I'm registered. Coordination of travel arrangements can help, especially with same division folks.

Am Worlds registration opens tonight at midnight! I guarantee there will be a lot of Masters & More there. https://www.discgolfscene.com/tournaments/2016_PDGA_Amateur_and_Junior_Disc_Golf_World_Championships/registration
There were about 54 MS1 players in 2015. I have the page open and my credit card on the keyboard. It would make sense to have some ride sharing for those interested in early practice trips.
We hope to stay there Saturday thru Saturday. Not sure where yet. Will definitely be getting in some practice rounds!

I have posted my wish list on my DGSpage.

The Discraft Michigan State Championships on Sept. 5 and 6 has already drawn together a good number of Masters + players. The registration remains open for folks with berths through Aug.28. Pool A (pro) and Pool E (am) include the Masters+ divisions. They are well below the pool maximums at this point, so the opportunity for those without berths occurs via the Last Chance Qualifier (LCQ) event. That event is scheduled for Sept.4 (in PM), with pre-registration ending Sept.3 at 2pm. The need to ac ... more

I was working on my responses to Fred's survey about events I am attending this year and got frustrated with DGS's text boxes only allowing one line, editing was a nightmare, so I created a more comprehensive survey via surveymokey.com that will allow you to select as many events as you wish. It was also hard for me to narrow down the choices, I'm one of those that typically attends at least 10 events per year. Here's the survey link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/J23MLX2
Done. Good job on the survey Wild man, and thank you Fred for starting the subject discussion.
I'll have to do some research, I'm new to SurveyMonkey, to see how I can share the results. I could probably set up an account specifically for this group if there is no other option.
I am down to play this always down for for ASS whooping good time .

One stroke per 10 points. With the highest rated or scratch player receiving no handicap.
I'm thinking there is some calculus involved. I'll do some investigation.

In a recent exchange connected to a masters and older only tournament, the possibility of combined divisions was raised. Making something like that acceptable to people with 30 years and 100 rating points between them challenges our ingenuity. Let's collectively imagine how something could be done to make it possible. "Handicapping" comes to mind, but, I have no clue as to how that works.

Hey Old timers, My GF is on me to live down south a month or two in the winter. Next year I told her we could rent some place down south where it is warm for a month. From what she tells me you have to put a deposit down a year ahead of time. With that said where would be somewhere warm where she would be happy and I could throw some discs and minimize getting bit by a reptile. You all know I like throwing into the brush. :o)
Scottsdale Arizona is beautiful in the winter time, sunny dry and 65-70 daily. You have plenty of nearby options for discgolf and lots of outdoor things to do, hiking/camping and exploring the desert that time of the year is amazing. I think you're going to find it a lot more affordable than A ... more

Sure has been an awful lot of Masters and Grand Masters from the west side of the state signing up for tourneys, then either bailing, changing divisions, or showing up at other tourneys on the same day as the one they bailed on. This leaves the division in limbo and causes other players who do show up to switch. Sometimes the division you want to switch to, was on a the previous day! Come On Men!!
I'm about to hit my no- throw season. That will put me on task for the survey of 2015 choices and preferences. Without precise dates until formal schedules are out, it may yet be possible to project some idea based on the perrennial tournaments we have played. It might be good to identify certa ... more
DGLO is an A Tier the last weekend of May. It's always a good time but be aware of the TD. I hear he can be a little flighty sometimes :-) !
You got it...we can plot a mix of A, B and C tier events, spread over time and the map. The massive "B" event before Labor Day in Luddington always gets red letters on my schedule.
Fred Vocino August 1, 2014 at 5:49am
I neglected to identify the potentially competing tournaments this year. That may have been less critical due to the schedules for PDGA events. Craig points to another possible function of the MM&M club; that is, giving players improved probability for age divisions when they consider their choice of tournaments over a season. This would involve a 2015 pre-season review of the choices and some consensus building among club members. There will be different levels of readiness to travel and o ... more
Great idea Fred. Nothing more frustrating than signing up for a tournament as a grand and ending up tournament day deciding to play Rec or moving up to play the long tees. Is there a list available of 2015 tournaments or are you proposing we use 2014 as a guide in chosing the above?
We will probably need to wait for Late Februuary 2015 to see the available choices. This year's tournaments can be good guide for 2015. We might look back through the results pages and note where the age divisions were populated. That may indicate a likely repeat in 2015. If you would like to l ... more

So, I just registered to play AM 2 at this weekend's CCR. Where are all the old farts? Get out of your rockin' chair and get to Lansing this weekend!
Craig, I am in wedding shower mode here at the house. I have 2 weeks to get the house ready for a shower here and a B Tier FE the week after. I would love to but family calls!
I did CCR last year and played "young". This year I missed it in favor of Gale Vaughn Mem.(last weekend) and FlipCity Aug 9. See my other comment re: a system for next year.

Hi guys - an A Tier is calling, can ya hear it?
http://www.discgolfscene.com/tournaments/Michigan_Amateur_Open_2014
I heard it! Great course that is closed to casuals during the tourney, food and drinks provided after the round on Saturday with a putting competition. This is going to start filling up fast in the next few days.
Damn old guys. Wes is a good guy. Good to hear from you, Jeff. Hope the weather down there is nice.
