"Summer" leagues starting

I was hoping to get the first week in this Tuesday, but I played Davis last night and there's still a stupid amount of snow. I'm going to be optimistic and start the league the following Tuesday, May 9 - not sure whether it'll be Davis or PC, probably whichever is more melted out. Found bag

A friend of mine just texted me a picture of an Innova disc golf bag, with about 15 discs in it (no numbers on any, weirdly) that he found at 20th and Potlatch Cir. Anyone know of someone who lost a bag recently?

Jeremiah Simono   September 26, 2022 at 8:19am

Likely stolen from a vehicle in the area and ditched. There are no numbers on ANY of the discs?

Joe Caissie   September 26, 2022 at 11:43pm

Yeah, that was surprising to me. This guy isn't a disc golfer so it's possible he's not good at looking for where the numbers are, but I told him to look inside the rim and everything.

Hello everyone,
After some discussion we have decided to make The Forest Fling a two day event this year, with amateur divisions playing on Saturday, May 28th, and professional divisions playing on Sunday, May 29th. We discussed a number of possible scenarios and took into consideration the feedback we received from many of you, and decided that this is the most logical way to go about things this year. Time to renew ADGA membership!

With the end of January, that's the end of the 2022 grace period - even if you were a member in 2021, if you haven't renewed, leagues are going to start being $3 extra. $40 for new members, and $30 to renew...for that you're saving $3/week on potentially 40 weeks of singles leagues, Wednesday Night Lights, and a whole summer of doubles. If you're paying me for the sanctioned singles, just add $30 or $40 and I'll pass the money along to ADGA.

Winter league starts Saturday, November 27

It's the announcement you've all been waiting for! Sanctioned singles starts soon, Saturday shortly subsequent to Shanksgiving! League will be A Pool, B Pool, and C Pool - may do a handicap league for the second one of the winter, but for now we're going to keep it basic for me. Will alternate between Westchester and Davis. Let me know if you'll probably play any of the rounds and I'll be able to load your info into the league ahead of time.

Thad Murgatroyd   April 11, 2019 at 7:52am

The course has changed every year for pretty much the last 6 years . 3 brand new holes on the back 9 but we will have it Done by mid May and the new hole construction doesnt impede on the old layout so the old layout will go in as soon as the sleeve get exposed and thawed . There will be a playable 18 by next week using yellow and blue baskets .

Speaking of 10 feet out from the basket on hole 7, a yearling moose yesterday was just going to town on some of the saplings around there--it's just a little bit more clear now.

7.0 Earthquake

I hope everyone and their families are OK after this morning's devastating earthquake. Having lived in Alaska almost all my life I can say that was the most intense seismic event I've ever witnessed. I was working at Costco at the time and the steel was swaying a good two feet at the tops of the aisles. Pretty scary. Everyone please try to stay safe as we recover over the coming days. Life will hopefully return to normal fairly soon.

New basket locations at Davis Park

Yesterday we moved 5 of the 6 baskets that currently have multiple pin locations. 3 is now shorter and on the right, 4 is straight and shorter, 6 is left and longer, 7 is now straight, and 8 is left and shorter. The tees are clear and the course has been playing well. If you've played here already I would recommend checking out this alternate layout, it gives some different looks/lines to throw. Enjoy!

the course is loaded in to the UDisc app. FYI...current layout under "Main" is blue tees to "A" pin positions which will be the short positions. Hilltop has 2 9 hole courses open for play starting this weekend . There is the normal short 9 yellow and the blue course with a improvised hole 6 , instead of exiting hole 5 on the left you exit on the right , hole 10s fairway) and walk up the mound to the left . The basket is by where 10s basket sits. So the blue you play hole 1,2,3,4,5,16,17,18 on the regular 18 . The tees are painted in right now . Have fun

Alaska PDGA Leagues schedule posted

Hello all, I created a page for the Saturday sanctioned singles leagues hosted by Brian Gutzwiller and the ADGA. Please refer to the schedule by clicking on either the "Events" tab or the "LEAGUES" tab to stay up to date on where we'll be playing the coming week. Hope to see you all out this winter for some sanctioned singles play! The ace pot is pretty fat right now, so I'd recommend getting in on the action. : )

If there is not an Ace hit by the end of the month, whatever the pot is up to, some of it will go to the club (to get some added cash for the club to buy discs, shirts, and run events in the future) and then the rest goe ... more

Davis Park Disc Golf Course -- Update

We have finally gotten the go ahead to start the installation process. Tree removal will be contracted out and a landscaping business will work with a crew of YSEP (summer employed high school students) to build tees, greens, and paths. We are working on a celebration bbq and doubles round after install is complete, August. So will need 25ish members to partner and play an organized round.

I am meeting with Parks and Rec on Thurs. and will have a better idea of the timeline. Installation should be starting after the State Championships.

Stay tuned...

My employer has restocked the lightweight single chain baskets again this spring, and I told management I'd let our community know that they're available. These aren't permanent grade baskets, but would serve well as a practice basket for the yard. I know that several of our members own one and find them an affordable alternative to higher priced models.

We will continue the rotation at Peters Creek this Saturday, 4/15 for ADGA doubles action. $5 for current ADGA members, $7 for non or non-current members. As usual $4 goes to the payout with the remaining funds going to the club. We've raised almost $150 so far, so I hope to see everyone there for some spring golf. PC has been playing really well lately, the pads are nice and the melt has been gradual there so it doesn't have the pooling of water that some of the other courses currently do.

I know that I'd be more inclined to play PC again, but I thought I'd let everyone decide. Where do you want doubles to be tomorrow? I'll take the first few votes this evening and make a decision : ) Westchester could be a bit wet in places, I haven't been out there since Wednesday so if anyone has an update feel free to chime in.

Played the goon today, little wet in the same places, but 4s pad isnt under water anymore so thats a plus. I think goon tomorrow since Sunday is PC.

Jeremy Boyd   April 8, 2017 at 10:24am

All righty, Westchester it is. See you there at 11!

Jeremy Boyd   April 1, 2017 at 4:43am

Doubles at Peters Creek tomorrow 4/1

Out at PC clearing pads for tomorrow right now. The course didn't get near the amount of snow that Anchorage did so don't be afraid to come on out. 11 am, $5 for ADGA current $7 if not. See you tomorrow!

Saturday Doubles League

Hello all,
Brian Gutzwiller will be taking a break for a month or so before resuming PDGA sanctioned Saturday league play. In the interim I've decided to run a doubles league on Saturdays, alternating between Westchester Lagoon and Peters Creek. The buy in will be $5 for ADGA members and $7 for non-members. There will be no ace pot so $4 from every entry will go into the payout with the remaining funds going to the ADGA. I'll begin this league this Saturday (2/11/17) at Westchester Lagoon at 11 am in order to keep the schedule the same. Hope to see you all there!

Talked to brian sounds like he will most likely make it but his work is always changing and he might not b able to attend. Please anyone interested in what direction the club is going should attend.

Adam Klein   November 13, 2015 at 1:45pm

ADGA members....

I have been told the tee pads for the Goon and PC are being maintained. Thank you to those making the extra effort to do this. It means a lot and feel very proud to hear this. It makes Shay's and Brian's efforts to run leagues at these courses much more worth it. A very heart felt thank you!!

There are bounties in play on Shay's league, but I imagine Gutz might be down for Girdwood for a Saturday at some point.

There's about 4 inches of fluff on them right now so would be pretty easy to take care of them if I knew it was going to happen. I'll talk to brian and see what his thoughts are?

Chuckin' da deuce!

Friends,

With mixed emotions I’m here to inform you that I have made the decision to leave Alaska. I’ve lived here since June of ’04 and can honestly say I’ve never lived anywhere surrounded with such beauty and amazing people. There are many things I’ll miss about Alaska… and, of course, other things I won’t.

WND's Week 20

Thanks to those of you who helped out at Kincaid Park in preparation for our biggest tournament of the year! It really does look great out there! Our President, Adam Klein, has spent more hours out there than anyone of you reading this. He gave the ok for us to play, not work. That doesn't mean the work out there is done but we're too close to not enjoy it tonight. Ultimately it's still my decision and I couldn't agree more with Adam. Kincaid Course Prep FINAL version

Yesterday, I and others continuously heard “This is the best the course has looked in a long time.” Kudos to all who have put time in to giving Kincaid some much needed TLC.

Thank you to Jeremy, Greg Rouse, Taylor, and Thad for that little extra effort yesterday (Monday) to get the mowing finished. Now I can take a few pieces of equipment out of the Wally wagon. And to those that removed cut logs and limbs.

Steve posted this on version 4. we thoroughly cleaned 2, but 16 still needs attention. short tee and green are cut. Fairway and long tee could benefit from more attention. I have other committements between now and next Tuesday. if it still needs work then I'll finish it up.

Louie Orozco   August 5, 2015 at 4:03pm

Dale, a whacker will do the trick better than a mower. On 10, it's the area to the left of the Am tee. Then around the few trees on the fairway. I'm actually pretty sure 14 is finished now that I think of it.

AKDGC TD and schedule

Brian Gutzwiller will be the TD for States. It will be a two day event like 2013. Two rounds at Kincaid, two rounds at PC. A three day event with Hilltop, Kincaid, and PC is the best format to designate our divisional state champions. However, it is more fiscally responsible to do a two day event. When we are more unified as a membership to supporting a three day event and can raise sponsors for it, then we can discuss it at that time.

Brian will need our support to prepare for AKDGC '15. I will be general work days on our Google calendar and preparing sign up lists. Til further notice....

AKDGC update... aka moving the date?

Moving the AKDGC date to the weekend after King of the Hill was discussed in our March meeting per member suggestion. It is a good idea to help draw lower 48 players to KOTH and States, however there are a lot of variables involved. Rally in the Valley would have to be pushed back a week, as well as moving Jailhouse back a few weeks in to August. Andrew DiRoma talked with Will Schusterick about a confirmation of he and possibly Team Prodigy attending both weekends. But they could not commit sin ... more

The date for States can definitely move if it's the right thing to do. The Jailhouse date can change too. I'm simply saying that Jailhouse Roc will not happen during the month of August. It'll happen during an open weekend outside of that month.

Thad Murgatroyd   April 11, 2015 at 1:42am

Moving the date was the wrong thing to do for a couple of reasons 1. Unless you have rock solid commitment letters you are moving it for people who aren't showing 2. I believe States is the USDGC Qualifier this year and it's unrealistic/unfair to ask the players from Homer,Junuea and Fairb ... more

Will Harrison   April 11, 2015 at 11:40am

I agree Thad. Our state locals should be considered first, especially without letters of commitment....of some sort.

Hey all, sorry for the short notice on this. Josh J. and I have been discussing tackling the free mulch pile at Girdwood lately. Since we will be there tomorrow, I would like for us to consider spending an hour or so in between rounds helping Josh move some mulch to the tee areas. We would need a few trucks, tarps, plastic storage totes, and shovels. If enough members volunteer to help I will try to get a hold of some more shovels. Just a friendly reminder that tonight is the Random Draw Dubs opener at Kincaid Park. Please have your money in by 6:15 pm as I will be going over all the rules and bounties for this year. I hope to send you guys out by 6:30 but the way announcements have gone in the past I'll just send you guys out once we've gone over what we need to. I take issue with people who dont live in Anchorage wanting us to do all of the work on courses when their own courses are a mess . I think you need to make the Pretzel a decent organized course.i'm sorry Thad but I am not known for blowing sunshine up peoples asses I state my honest opinion ,w ... more

Thad Murgatroyd   January 6, 2014 at 1:28pm

Thad if Homer was interested in growing DG in AK why did Kurtis and Eden ignore Hilltop last yr . Its the 1 ranked course in the state with the best facilties and it was ignored. It was pettiness and a personal snub of me and Rick and a belated FU to John L to make the hard work up there try and go away

Thad Murgatroyd   January 6, 2014 at 1:31pm

I agree the ADGA needs to be Anchorage only , run by ANCHORAGE only . We will schedule with the rest of the state

Pro Tip

Everyone! If you participate in an event (league or tournament) or if you hit an Ace at either of the mentioned events, DO NOT POST YOUR OWN SCORES!!! Sorry if we can't update the scores before you get home to check if we we've submitted them. We'll get to it. Thanks.

Peter's Creek

Anyone heading out to Peter's Creek to volunteer some of your time, this message is for you:

If you have a shovel, rake, mattock, saw, gloves, etc please take it/them with you. Also, the mosquitos are pretty bad out there so bug dope is a must. Lastly, be sure to have some water available.

P.S. We will be holding Saturday League at none-other than Peter's Creek. This is my compromise: In stead of cancelling SL, how about we go out there, play our round, break for lunch then ... more

As of today we have just about completed digging most of the holes for the concrete tee pads. We were able to move the trash can from old 6 to the new #9, as well as relocating 14's can to the new tee pad. Clearing was done to open up the fairways on several of the new holes, and old holes an ... more

Alcantra DGC

Alcantra Parks and Rec meeting for Expansion/funding of Wasilla's only disc golf course - We need YOUR/the whole Alaskan DG Communities help!

For the past few years the people in Wasilla have been really trying to get the city to give us funding for 9 more baskets to no avail. Last year they had a meeting to fund us but none of us even knew about the city meeting and it wasn't passed due to lack of interest and some of the neighbors living behind our course voting against it. hopefully yes we want to move a few of the current 9 baskets as well as compleatly remove a couple of the holes all together. in the next couple seasons there will be alot of changes being made to help improve the course.

Justin J.   June 9, 2013 at 8:51pm

Let me know if there are things I can do, my brother and are only about 1 mile from the course.

Justin J.   June 9, 2013 at 8:53pm

We have chainsaws and trucks and 4 wheelers. If we need to raise money I was thinking of maybe a raffle for a portable basket and a 3 set if discs or something at Walmart or carrs
